Uni offers

Is anyone else waiting for any Scottish uni offers for their DC?

My DC is awaiting a response for computer science at Edinburgh, St As, and Glasgow. He's had a Cambridge post interview rejection and also waiting to hear from Durham.

He's applied with 6 As at higher and 1 A at advanced higher from S4-5 so this exceeds all standard grade requirements (non contextual state school).

I'm at a bit of a loss and starting to tear my hair out. Anyone else in the same boat?

Thank you Aurea! You're absolutely right about not realising how competitive CS is! We have DD's 18th birthday party at home today so a good distraction although all her friends have at least one offer so that's also hard for her. Will report back w any news and look fwd to any updates esp re St A's from anyone else here. Am embarrassed to admit how many times a day I check this message board! X

And happy 18th birthday to your daughter. Hope she celebrates in style. 🎈🎈🎈

We are still waiting for just one decision - Primary teaching at Stirling. Total radio silence from them, DD knows two other people who have applied too and they have heard nothing either. She's not too bothered as she has an unconditional for the same degree at Glasgow but it's almost Easter and they are leaving it very late if they are planning on interviewing.

namechange3388 · 26/03/2023 10:36

If you've heard nothing does that indicate a rejection?

DD not had anything from Glasgow, Strathclyde, Edinburgh or St Andrews

IkBenDeMol · 26/03/2023 11:39

No, they will let you know one way or the other. Eventually. Some departments/courses just seem to be a lot slower than others.

DD applied for two different courses at Stirling - she had an unconditional for one within 24 hours of submitting her UCAS form back in January. Not even a squeak about the other one. They really are doing themselves a disservice as she has two unconditionals for teaching from Glasgow and Strathclyde and will probably just end up taking one of those.

beachcitygirl · 28/03/2023 23:05

My daughter got unconditionals from glasgow, St. Andrews & edinburgh in November (early applicant) Cambridge rejection post interview.

3 of her pals have had offers from st Andrew's - their choices
Classics
Comp sci
English literature

1 in her year has had offer from edinburgh and glasgow also. He's doing English Lit

All Scottish students

beachcitygirl · 28/03/2023 23:06

Congratulations Aurea on Durham 🎉🎉🙌🏻

Aurea · 29/03/2023 06:34

Thank you Beachcity.

He also now has an unconditional from Edinburgh for their comp sci integrated masters. Still waiting on St As and Glasgow though.

Congrats on your daughter's offers. Remind me of her subject?

@Aurea I'll dm you lovely. Are you going to open days/offer holders days? X

WednesdaysPlaits · 29/03/2023 22:43

Lots of St Andrews rejections were apparently sent out today. Tomorrow is ivy day in the US so lots of Americans will make their decisions which might then mean more offers come out. Or not!

Sent out by email? Or post?

Really not looking good now

WednesdaysPlaits · 30/03/2023 06:56

By ucas email

WednesdaysPlaits · 30/03/2023 06:57

TSR had lots of disappointed kids receiving rejection emails after months of nothing

Hi everyone! My DD is STILL waiting to hear from ANY uni! For anyone still waiting to hear from Edinburgh, I wrote to her school's prof guidance person yesterday and got this back: Edinburgh sent an email to advisers a few days ago saying they will be going into April with their decision-making and that they have only replied to 45% of applicants so far.

IkBenDeMol · 30/03/2023 08:12

Edinburgh were ridiculously slow when DS applied too. I suspect as a previous poster has said that they are waiting for North American / English students to make decisions.

We are still waiting to hear about Stirling, they are being very slow to issue decisions for their teaching programme this year, DD knows several applicants and nobody has heard. Seems as if they are making the decision without interviews as there's not enough time to sort that out before Easter and the exams which start in 3 weeks. The slow response from Stirling is putting DD off to be honest, and she's leaning towards accepting the unconditional from Glasgow.

Plum8 · 30/03/2023 09:46

Hi IkBenDeMol - thanks so much for your post. Sigh re Edinburgh! I find it amazing that the uni's can get away without having a set of deadlines that they have to publish and stick to! I hope your DD hears back from Stirling soon - and fantastic that she already has an unconditional from Glasgow!

WarningToTheCurious · 30/03/2023 09:59

DS has applied to Edinburgh for Comp Sci from England and hasn’t heard either - in theory he qualifies for a contextual offer (home post code and state school). Edinburgh’s own stats show that 1 in 4 English applicants get an offer.

He’s still waiting on one of his English uni choices too, but has two good offers that he’d be happy to take up.

A friend’s son got invited to an offers holders day - the day before his biology higher (he is applying from S5). They don’t live locally so would be many hours on the train both ways. That seems very poor. (He isn’t going).

Thank you! That is good to know.

So bloody anxious

Runningslow · 30/03/2023 13:40

Still waiting for all Scottish unis here too.
My older dd cancelled her application to Edinburgh in the end as she got so fed up waiting for them.

To be fair they do have a deadline they have to stick to. It's 18th May

balzamico · 30/03/2023 14:19

My DD is an applicant from England still waiting for an offer or rejection from Edinburgh - their offer holder day is next week but they told me that date wasn't set by admissions. Her mate got a rejection from Edinburgh last night for a different course so maybe they're coming through - infuriating

WednesdaysPlaits · 30/03/2023 14:25

UCAS is down for four days after 6pm this evening so no offers will come out after that until Tuesday

Oh for God's sake! Thanks for the intel! Saves us checking and rechecking for nothing for the next 5 days!
