Views on Sunak 'blocking gender bill'

leepinglizards · 16/01/2023 19:49

I would describe myself as gender critical and opposed to this bill but this doesn't sit right with me.

Sturgeon will just bleat on and on about sovereignty and he's handed her more of a platform IMO.

What do you all think?

surely this has to be the end of Sturgeon!

I hope so but she has an ability to wriggle. You'd have thought Named Person would have been the end of her.

She is such a dangerous person. Throwing womans rights away and trying to take control of kids too. I honestly don't know how anyone could vote for her.

Spring23 · 31/01/2023 11:40

It's just the latest example of the SNP not taking on board reasonable scrutiny of their plans, and failing to foresee disasters that were predictable and predicted. NS won't go until the polls wobble, if they ever do...

I agree 100%....she is mad, bad and dangerous! The latest is despicable surely this has to be the end of her....

I don’t see her going anywhere unless she’s trounced in an election. Which at this time I don’t think will happen as there seems to be an abundance of support still out there

They keep doing the same thing over and over. Ignoring reasonable questions, shouting down anyone pointing out potential pitfalls as "talking down Scotland" and "snp bad".

Then egg all over their faces when it ends up on court.

Our money wasted. Precious time wasted that could have been spent sorting out the myriad actual problems in Scotland.

They really need to go.

annabelindajane · 31/01/2023 13:33

Alex Massie writing in Times today had a good point:

he says that throughout this bill our politicians have shown themselves incapable of asking the right questions. “ Deep down, plenty of Holyrood members know this ,just as they know their legislature is stuffed with third rate intellects.”

Workerbeep · 31/01/2023 13:39

Interesting that the almost weekly poll in support of independence hasn’t been trotted out.

Someone shared this on another thread. The Sun didn't publish as the researcher discovered Adam Graham was facing serious charges. I wonder did they get their £5k from BT for dead naming www.thescottishsun.co.uk/news/10132920/trans-double-rapist-isla-bryson-criticised-nicola-sturgeon/

"Single-sex spaces and services
The most frequent cross-cutting theme concerned the need for single-sex services and female-only staff. Respondents highlighted that single-sex services should be made into law, widely available, clearly advertised and co-exist with non-single-sex options. Responses suggested that single-sex spaces are vital to ensuring victims of VAWG feel safe and protected, otherwise women might self-exclude due to religious or cultural reasons."

This is from the analysis of the survey /consultation carried out by Scot Gov on Violence against Women and Girls
www.gov.scot/publications/analysis-call-evidence-responses-violence-against-women-girls-funding-review/
published today - wonder if the full report will come out in June or if it will be quietly dropped because women and girls arent saying what ScotGov want to hear - that its fine to allow men in women's spaces ?

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 31/01/2023 18:16

That's fascinating @readsalotgirl63 . Considering the free text responses, respondents were more concerned about the lack of provision of single sex spaces and female only staff than they were about any other issue, including funding and training. I wonder if this is the silent majority expressing it's deep concern about the direction of travel in the 'gender debate' in a way that won't see them targeted for abuse?

I suspect like most inconvenient responses SG will pretend it doesn't exist though - I'm kind of surprised they allowed it to be published at all.

readsalotgirl63 · 31/01/2023 18:58

I found the reference and link on another thread and had a very quick skim but was struck by the passage I've quoted.
Agree completely with you @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us but the timing is great.

FFS. Alex cole hamilton pretending he cares about women now. No Alex. We've all seen the video do you saying you did this for Beth Douglas.

We all saw how you voted a few weeks ago.

You were warned again and again, you don't get to pretend you care now. Chickens now coming home to roost.

They've gone incredibly quiet about taking the section 35 order to court.

Is there any chance they might not now given the public outrage over recent developments? Or is it ridiculous to expect the SNP not to continue with their current path of self destruction?

Cazziebo · 02/02/2023 07:31

I think this article absolutely nails what's wrong at Holyrood www.spectator.co.uk/article/the-fish-rots-from-the-head-in-sturgeons-scotland/

I believe a Scottish Parliament could work for the good of the Scottish people, but when you look at the calibre of MSPs, there really isn't any hope. There are a few exceptions but it's a collection of not very bright, not very experienced and not very committed chancers. (And our contingent at Westminster are largely of the same mould)

Sugarfree23 · 02/02/2023 08:08

@Rainbowshit they'll quietly let it slide, just the same as Named Person, say nothing hope people forget about it.

Sturgeon says she hasn't checked the validity of Isla Bryson's claims to be a woman? 🤔

As this tweet points out, isn't that the whole pint of self ID that you don't check the validity?

Scottishskifun · 02/02/2023 19:54

@Rainbowshit indeed and now Nicola Sturgeon has said they are almost certainly faking trans status......yet under her own legislation if it hadn't been blocked that rapist could have applied for and gained a certificate 2 years ago!!!

So it could have viably been used for loopholes.....the thing the SNP stated people were transphobic to state!
I have never been so thankful to Westminster for stepping in and the prison debacle shows all the issues with self ID!

Staggie · 02/02/2023 21:41

It happened in England aswell. No one in stepped in there - male rapists being sent to women's prisons.

In which case, the other parties and the Scottish Govt know what to do.

annabelindajane · 03/02/2023 11:24

Rishi told Piers Morgan a woman is an adult human female and he’s married to one and has two daughters . Their rights and spaces need to be protected.

We don’t know if NSturgeon knows this and she is our First Minister.

however let’s not get distracted from what’s going on in Scotland and if you want to understand a bit more head on over to the latest Wings exposure on these people who the SNP are in thrall to and are shaping gender policy . Quite a few mentions of the Paedophile exchange .
