There was quite a good documentary about that very subject on BBC a few months ago. It was really interesting. Wish I could remember the name of it, if it comes back to me I'll post the link.

CharityShopChic · 18/04/2022 20:11

I wonder what proportion of people who've recently had (mild) covid and recovered fully are now maskless? I'm in that camp! Highly highly unlikely that I'll pass anything on.

yes, that's me too. I had Covid a month ago. The NHS Scotland app says i'm "immune" until September. Even if that's pushing it a bit, I'm not giving it to anyone at the mo.

WouldBeGood · 18/04/2022 20:22

Oh my, @Dinoteeth. I had no idea about that. I’ll research now.

OP posts:
runningpink · 18/04/2022 21:43

Also stopped wearing a mask after I got covid. Even when I did wear one it was pulled from my face every 5 seconds.

So no one wore one on entering my class! Yay!
Did see a handful of folk wearing outdoors!
Supermarket, no staff wearing but disappointingly a good proportion of the customers were.
Passed an opticians and the satff were wearing masks even when sat behind a screen!

I’m so angry that I put up with the damn things for so long despite the stress and anxiety they caused me. Especially now it’s clear they do feck all!

I honestly think we will look back on this time and wonder why the hell we complied with 99% of the rules. I hope no other generation ever has to experience anything like what we have gone through.

WouldBeGood · 18/04/2022 21:48

Very well said @runningpink. Totally agree

OP posts:
Dinoteeth · 18/04/2022 21:58

Give it time and the masks will disappear.

Haudyourwheesht · 18/04/2022 22:23

Are they still compulsory in public areas in sec schools? All the information is conflicting.

CuddlyCactus · 18/04/2022 22:23

Just heard on news Scotland has lower numbers of covid deaths than England & wales but highest rate of excess deaths in ukConfused
Combination of covid deaths and harsher lockdowns affecting access to healthcare creating a perfect storm?

WouldBeGood · 18/04/2022 22:30

No @Haudyourwheesht that’s all gone

OP posts:
Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 18/04/2022 22:49

Yep @CuddlyCactus that's been the case for a few months now. We're more likely to die, but it's less likely to be a COVID death and since that is apparently all that matters now well done Nicola. It was totally worth the additional damage to the economy, mental and physical health and children's development to pursue 'maximum suppression' when the rest of the UK was getting on with it because now we have a few less COVID deaths. We also had huge spikes in infection that were almost certainly caused by the maximum suppression leaving us less immune but it was the 'responsible' thing to do - shame about the NHS pressures this caused.

The whole thing has been handled with the finesse of a child with tunnel vision, unable to see the wider picture.

WouldBeGood · 18/04/2022 22:54

It’s really tragic.

I used to be proud to be Scottish

OP posts:
mapleleavesreturn · 19/04/2022 07:45

Completely unsurprising to hear we have the highest excess deaths - to say nothing of all the adults and kids on waiting lists for mental or physical health, behind educationally. And Scotland is better funded than England, we should have the lowest deaths.

Tomorrowisanewday · 19/04/2022 07:53

CuddlyCactus - friend of mine is a nurse in the QE in Glasgow. When Glasgow was in their extended lockdown, she said they were caring for more people from failed suicide attempts than Covid cases.

CuddlyCactus · 19/04/2022 08:43

I was really shocked to hear we had worst excess deathsConfused It's very sad

Excess deaths is the true cost of the pandemic.
The loss of person by suicide. untreated heart conditions as they couldn't see a GP or delayed cancer diagnosis/treatment is just as tragic as the life lost to covid.

I really feel for the families.

Dinoteeth · 19/04/2022 09:42

@Tomorrowisanewday that is just horrific. Lockdowns were horrendous especially for people living alone or who were already having a tough time in some patch of their life.
Our leaders had no clue, out seeing other people at work every day. Going about business as usual.
Totally different experience from people who live alone, or even families who were working from home.

I got slated for saying I wanted NS to have to self-isolate, just so she got a taste of what was being asked of other people.

mapleleavesreturn · 19/04/2022 12:58

Feeling smug here, after failing to find a suitable private option, I managed to get an implant removal appt (on my birthday)! Nothing says happy birthday like local anaesthetic!

So glad though the first time the website error'd but they must've been uploading appts and I happened to get lucky!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 19/04/2022 16:17

That is so sad @Tomorrowisanewday but it doesn't surprise me at all. I don't think we'll ever know the true impact of how the pandemic has been handled.

After my railing yesterday, it turns out you can still order lateral flow tests if you have been a close contact (which we are and now DS has covid) so I was able to order them after all after spending 20 quid on two packs in boots

Lostpotato · 19/04/2022 17:15

Railing that my DC has just come home and told me that school has been tannoying all day about masks. Apparently they said ONCE that you don't have to wear masks but that you should. Then the rest of the day they kept saying that everyone should wear masks in corridor. Apparently almost every child was. It makes me so angry, how can they be allowed to send this message out when adults are not wearing them on trains, supermarkets, theatres... ? The mental health crisis amongst the teens is growing by the day!

CharityShopChic · 19/04/2022 17:54

Just had a text from the GP saying that all patients must wear masks to "keep everyone safe". Doesn't seem to matter than no bugger can get through the door to actually see a GP. Can they insist?

Was in Boots earlier getting a prescription and wore my mask because I am genuinely unsure what the roolz are about pharmacies. Healthcare setting or shop? They're both, surely.

CuddlyCactus · 19/04/2022 18:01

My understanding is masks are remaining in healthcare settings at moment as many people using the services are vulnerable.

Just back from local supermarket and 50% shoppers still wearing masks, no staff though. Always been high compliance here

AmadeustheAlpaca · 19/04/2022 18:23

I was in a reasonably large Boots yesterday and I’d say 70% of customers and some of the staff were mask free. Definitely less mask wearers in other shops today than yesterday

WouldBeGood · 19/04/2022 18:23

That’s stupid though, as masks do not work!!! I won’t be wearing one anywhere.

Pleased to say that DS’ school is mask free! He’s been indoctrinated so took one with him, but they’re gone!

I see Ms Sturgeon is on Loose women tomorrow (or next Wednesday?)

OP posts:
Blimeyherewegoagain · 19/04/2022 19:22

About 80 percent of people were wearing masks in my local supermarket today. I was choosing some vegetables and a masked up couple wouldn’t come near me to select theirs but waited about 3m away until I had finished. People have had the fear indoctrinated into them.

WouldBeGood · 19/04/2022 19:36

Similar situation in my local supermarket @Blimeyherewegoagain. It’s sad, but I was trying to be patient!

OP posts:
Dinoteeth · 19/04/2022 20:29

It's taken 2 years to get to that level of fear, it will take a wee bit time for them to drop it.
But I'd guess with in a month it will be the odd person in masks. Or people who are worried about their own health or have someone vulnerable around them
