Yes I'm interested to see if those people advising us to continue wearing masks in crowded indoor places will be doing so themselves, particularly out on campaign trail, once it's no longer law.

Or if it will be like the Westminster abbey outing, do as I say not as I do
As far as I'm aware it's exactly the same position in England, advisory for crowded indoor places like Westminster abbey but not compulsory

mibbelucieachwell · 17/04/2022 13:17

Happy Easter everyone.

What is the SG LIKE? Fortunately I managed to miss NS but caught Humza Yousless on radio Scotland asserting that he too has faith in the Scottish people continuing to wear masks to protect their grannies and mothers. Apart from anything else this is sexist. (I swear the people picked to demonstrate vulnerable care home residents on telly are far more often women than men too. Anyone else noticed that?)

Jacob Rees Mogg now on R4 beginning his comments by proclaiming, 'Happy Easter. Christ has risen.' This is a man cynically, using his professed religious belief by implication to defend the government. Still, he makes a change from Grant Shapps (spelling?) who seemed to have drawn the short straw last week when our infrastructure was failing and Doris and Fishy had been fined.

I know this is the wrong thread, but I'm so sad about Mariupol today.

Very grateful to be in the fortunate position of prepping a meal feast for my (extended) family today. It'll be nice to sit in the garden through choice on this lovely Easter Sunday.

ResilienceWanker · 17/04/2022 15:36

Yes, happy Easter all, and happy last mask day. Easter Grin

Who would have predicted they'd have gone hard on the guilt tripping, then? Well, apart from basically everyone I'm thinking there will be a sizeable minority who DO keep wearing them initially, but think that will drop off quite quickly - especially in "why do we need them here again? " venues (going to the toilet in restaurants, huge empty supermarkets, public rooms when sitting down but not eating etc etc). Maybe public transport and actually crowded, bustly indoor places may hang on a bit longer, but I think they'll go too in the next couple of months.

I confess I felt a bit emotional at church this morning... It was actually full, with all yer ceremony and incense (brave decision, as that's cough-inducing at the best of times) and proper singing. Lots of masks - prob about 80% - but to be fair, it probably would class as a busy indoor place... And just knowing that we didn't have to wear them just felt so much nicer! Fully expecting it to have been a superspreader event, but, frankly, it was worth it to sit next to random strangers and smile at them. Compared with the 120 person limit, time limited and NO FUN carol services at Christmas, not to mention the past 2 years, it was quite a change...

Unbelievable not about NS mask free yesterday as Yousless lectures us about make today. Seems to be getting a wee bit of coverage this afternoon so hopefully it'll gain some traction.

Just back from England and a glorious mask free week. I was given free hand sanitizer in boots, they clearly have a glut of it!

A couple of the papers have picked up on Nicola going maskless in the barbers. According to the telegraph an SNP spokesman claims she was called in off the street and 'forgot' to put on her mask, but realised within seconds and put it back on. Since the video shows her in full swing having a laugh with several other people, none of whom are wearing masks, I'd say its more likely to have been a couple of minutes at least. It also somewhat undermines the cybernats on Twitter desperately trying to put out that this is fake (no doubt made by 'yoons') as the SNP are admitting that the incident happened (and making a piss poor excuse for it).

It's the hypocrisy that gets me and is, to my mind, exactly the same as party gate. It's bad, pointless law that doesn't acheive the stated aim, but she brought in and extended this law, twice, so she should bloody well follow it! She patronises and gas lights the Scottish people, making out that this is a really important public health measure and is confident we'll all still do it even though we don't have to, but it's simultaneously so unimportant that it allegedly didn't occur to her that anything was off in a small indoor space where noone was wearing a mask. She calls for Boris to resign over his 'mistake' but we're just supposed to accept hers?

Justmuddlingalong · 17/04/2022 17:41

Just had a nose on her twitter page. Some of the comments under her easter sermon are good. The reaction to her blatant hypocrisy seems to be picking up speed.
My chin has been inspected for missed whiskers ready for tomorrow. 🧔

WouldBeGood · 17/04/2022 18:24

It’s a shame cos she actually looks happy and like she’s having a nice time for once. The happiness of no mask!

I'm hoping not to see parents wearing them in the play ground for pick up and drop off - one of the many candidates for 'most nonsensical covid rule', alongside the 5 mile limit from lockdown 1.

Moralising needs to stay out of politics, all this the superiority of the Scottish people stuff is mawkish.

Happy Easter - hasn't it been a cracking day?

Pootle40 · 17/04/2022 19:37

Can't wait for freedom day tomorrow! 💃🏻

My chin has been inspected for missed whiskers ready for tomorrow

The struggle is real🤣

Haudyourwheesht · 17/04/2022 21:52
That was my first thought! 😂😂

My mum says everyone is still wearing them at mass. She said she wouldn't wear hers, and her friends said the same, but they're wearing them because everyone else is. Grin I went to the shop without mine today, which was lovely, and we were at soft play yesterday and nobody was wearing one.

NowThatsWhatICall22 · 17/04/2022 21:52
This has made my year🤣 I wish I could say it was me.
ResilienceWanker · 17/04/2022 22:36

GrinWink

And Yy to the whisker thing though more will have sprung up by tomorrow regardless. Also, I've developed a nasty spot on my chin (WTAF hormones... I'm really not 14 you know) which masks are doing great work at hiding.

CuddlyCactus · 17/04/2022 22:36

It's just been on the 10 o'clock newsConfused

CuddlyCactus · 17/04/2022 22:39

That is NS reported to police, not your spots @ResilienceWanker Blush

WouldBeGood · 17/04/2022 22:45

@ResilienceWanker nice to hear of a proper Easter in church.

Also glad to hear no media reporting on railers’ stray hairs 😃

Happy freedom day everyone!! Looking forward to officially retiring the face masks once and for all and breathing freely again!

Dinoteeth · 18/04/2022 00:08

Aww thats so funny, NS in the slammer with BJ!!!!

If your going to make the rules you have to really believe in the and stand by them.

Would it be wrong to burn the face masks?

WouldBeGood · 18/04/2022 05:32

I’m scared to burn them in case it tempts fate….

Hurray for freedom day though!!

Railing against ScotGov for advising that fully vaccinated people should still do LFTs for 7 days if they have come into contact with a confirmed case, when it would now cost over £40 for our family to do so (from Boots, anyway).

Don't get me wrong, happy to see the end of masks and routine testing! Can't believe our first definitely known very close contact has come on the day restrictions end! Unlike seeming everyone else we know, we didn't stock up on LFTs.

CuddlyCactus · 18/04/2022 09:07

Have free LFTs gone today too?
I thought Scotland were keeping them for a bit but I did wonder why there was a big display of them in Tesco at weekend Hmm

GoldenOmber · 18/04/2022 09:21

Very pleased the masks are finally optional! Not hugely looking forward to a few weeks/months of grumpy tension over it; at work there are already people fuming over why we aren’t keeping the law in offices, accusing others of selfishness and ‘forgetting covid is still out there’. But eh I’m sure it’ll settle down in time.

I think we still have to wear them at the GP surgery, so I won’t be burning mine as DC1’s a bit of a frequent flyer there at the moment. Other than that though they are OFF and staying off.

GoldenOmber · 18/04/2022 09:24

A small rail about the line that we should keep masks and distancing and whatever else ‘because covid is still out there’ though. I’ve heard Nicola and Humza both say something like that in past few days. Covid is still going to be ‘out there’ in 500 years!
