I think people will drop the masks very quickly.
I think older people seem to think they do 'something' and like the comfort of protecting themselves. But really it's a false sense of security. Or they do it because others do it.
But it's also older people who shop in places like M&S.

People are sheep to an extent like to follow the crowd. So they might drop from some shops quicker than others.

NowThatsWhatICall22 · 16/04/2022 08:47

@runningpink

Do you think she can/will bring back masks or any restrictions again? Maybe over winter for example

Iv just got this fear at the back of my mind. Iv already ditched the masks, never did track and trace etc but I do worry that if she has the chance she will enforce any control she can over us.

The new public health ads which talk to us like we are children, but thankfully no longer feature the dentist are still very much about do keep your mask handy, do still feel a bit shitty if you’re not continuing to protect your neighbour (note the neighbour is at home in the ad), do wash your hands (because clearly some people didn’t know to do that before government told them so in 2020).

I’d say the control element is still there, but it just needs to be different right now hello election campaign and across the summer, for political reputation and PR reasons.
Covid Control Autumn/Winter collection© will no doubt resurface around September.

Dinoteeth · 16/04/2022 08:52

do wash your hands (because clearly some people didn’t know to do that before government told them so in 2020).

Given the panic buyers of hand-wash and soap and the shortage of such items at the start of the pandemic. Maybe some folk don't wash their hands

Tomorrowisanewday · 16/04/2022 13:29

runningpink - a bill to extend "emergency" powers is going through the Scottish Parliament at the moment. It doesn't seem to have had a lot of publicity, I emailed my MSP, and although I've had two replies, neither of them answered the questions I'd asked. Such as will they be voting against it......

Coquohvan · 16/04/2022 16:14

Talking of voting got my postal vote in today. Decisions decisions (not)
@wouldbegood Thanks for #20 wowsers

DH has just chased a SNP leafletter down the street to give him his leaflet back and ask him not to put any more "racist shite" through the door. (DH is English).

SNP leafletter quite taken aback.

WouldBeGood · 16/04/2022 20:37

@CharityShopChic 🤣 love it

Ha.

My MIL made a show of ripping up her leaflet at the window for the leafletter to see.

The Nats are also quieter on here than they used to be, I've noticed.

maskfree · 16/04/2022 21:20

I am just back from a trip down to England and even though I have been happy to comply with the mask wearing, it felt very liberating for it to be optional. They were compulsory on the Easyjet flight and on the Gatwick Express (Train) but everywhere else most people were not wearing them.
Service seemed really good everywhere but I suspect it was simply the novelty of being able to read people's facial expressions and interact with them properly.
I expect people will easily ditch the masks in Scotland too.

WouldBeGood · 16/04/2022 22:17

It does feel really good @maskfree. Like a weight off

I'm so annoyed that we won't be having an election in our ward as only 3 people are standing. I was looking forward to telling the SNP where to stick their propaganda Grin

They are busy creating and posting on the ‘moving to Scotland’ threads, which do seem to pop up pretty frequently these days Wink

Same here... I wonder if we are neighbours...🤔
CharityShopChic · 17/04/2022 08:46

DH is generally very non-confrontational. But he found the 2014 referendum very toxic and had several "back to where you came from" comments. And despite what Sturgeon says about everyone being welcome, the SNP have an active anti-English minority who she refuses to criticise/tackle.

Scottishskifun · 17/04/2022 09:53

OK which one of us sent a mask with I'm done written on it to Devi?! part of me is applauding this person!

WouldBeGood · 17/04/2022 09:55

🤣 @Scottishskifun not me, honest!

yeah the moving to scotland threads are getting a bit annoying.

This isn't rightmove.

ResilienceWanker · 17/04/2022 12:26

It did come with white powder included though. Which is less of a statement, more of a threat really. I was railing when I saw that news item - that it was framed not as a "don't send dodgy unknown substances to public figures in the post when making your point that you disagree with their opinion, you absolute tosser" story. But a "poor abused woman in the public eye" story. No, it's not nice, but I don't think anyone picked on DS to make the point to because she's a woman, frankly...

runningpink · 17/04/2022 12:40

Thanks all. Here’s hoping that if she tries any of this crap again there will be enough of us putting our foot down that it won’t have any impact.

Was chatting to a friend yesterday and the company she works for aren’t allowing the staff to drop the masks tomorrow. Most of the staff roles are customer facing so even more ridiculous that the customers won’t be wearing but they expect staff to do so. Not sure what they are expecting to achieve.

The headline on my local radio station Facebook page earlier was this:
Sturgeon 'confident' most Scots will continue wearing masks after easing

Found it hilarious, she is clearly more deluded that I thought!

NowThatsWhatICall22 · 17/04/2022 12:40

Well queen Nic has been on the news today, layering on the guilt, talking to us like we are her subjects and encouraging ongoing obedience re masks from tomorrow. She has confidence in us to consider others to still listen to her and if it wasn’t for Westminster she would still have masks on even though she didn’t wear one herself in the church service for Prince Phillip.
How patronising.

Nicola Sturgeon has said she is confident Scots will continue to wear face masks after rules are eased.
The First Minister said Covid-19 was “still out there”, adding: “Wearing a face covering is a bit of protection you can give, not only to yourself but to the people you might be around – including people who might be more clinically vulnerable.” She continued: “Yes, I’ve got confidence in the good sense and the responsibility of the people across Scotland.

Rail over, I’m off to eat some chocolate.

twitter.com/AgentP22/status/1515444850711273477 and yet here she is not wearing a mask and just to make sure it's not some video dragged up from 2018 is her version twitter.com/NicolaSturgeon

CharityShopChic · 17/04/2022 13:02

Nicola Sturgeon has said she is confident Scots will continue to wear face masks after rules are eased.

Bollocks she is. Some will and they are of course free to do so. Most won't. Judging by Sainsbury's at Braehead this morning, lots have already stopped.

DD works in a major retailer at Braehead on a Sunday and is staying 30 minutes later tonight so they can remove all the signs about masks and sanitising and social distancing and the rest of it.

CharityShopChic · 17/04/2022 13:07

And yes - that video of her in her pink jacket in the barber's yesterday says it all. For all her po-facedness and criticism of Boris, she is JUST THE SAME. This is the second time she has been caught not wearing a mask when she should have been - remember the funeral last year? And she was all over Cop 26 getting selfies with anyone who looked near her, without masks. But of course, this time the tartan mask comes back out for the photo op. Queen Nicola, woman of the people, popping into her local barber's for a wet shave.

She is an utter hypocrite. Odious woman.
