I think I'm just cross at the school for peddling the nonsense that cloth masks in corridors make the slightest bit of difference. And the constant tannoys. My DC was getting pressure from friends to wear a mask all day long today. They were completely compliant when it was law but now it is no longer law school should not be putting pressure on kids to wear masks. They should be encouraging them to get back to normal and start to reduce this state of utter paranoia and fear that the SG have helped create.

WouldBeGood · 19/04/2022 20:41

Absolutely @Lostpotato, I think it’s disgusting.

So important for the young people to have normality and to see expressions, faces, feelings

Dinoteeth · 19/04/2022 21:06

@Lostpotato I totally get what you are saying about the school though.
TBH I'd be half tempted to call the school because it's very unfair on kids to be getting the message pushed that they need to wear them

Lostpotato · 19/04/2022 21:13

I'm going to see how it goes over the next day or two and then if they are still getting the pressure I'll email the head. I've just got to the point where I've had it with all this nonsense!

Cismyfatarse · 19/04/2022 22:14

@Haudyourwheesht

Are they still compulsory in public areas in sec schools? All the information is conflicting.
They are not compulsory but recommended. I think some schools are interpreting this as the school can dictate. Thankfully mine has been very sensible and I now see very few masks at all. One or two kids and no staff at all.
RaraRachael · 19/04/2022 23:14

I came into school on Monday morning determined to be mask free whatever anybody said. A colleague asked the HT what we were meant to do and was told we should still wear them in corridors. About 4 of us are nor wearing them at all and nobody has said anything to us. Chairs are still 1m apart in the staff room though Hmm

Hope you are just left to it by your HT. School staff have finally been allowed to make grown up decisions for themselves in their workplace, honestly I don’t know how you’ve all stayed sane it’s been going on sooo long in schools for staff and pupils.

Urgh some days I regret coming online, I’ve just spotted that queen Nic is on Loose Women today. Give me strength. Get back to the day job. 😡

CharityShopChic · 20/04/2022 10:59

Is it Kaye Adams chairing? She isn't afraid to go in hard and ask the difficult questions. I haven't seen Loose Women in years though, so if it's someone very lightweight I suppose you can expect questions about her favourite blouse and what she does in her spare time.

Won't be watching, that woman gives me the dry boke.

NowThatsWhatICall22 · 20/04/2022 11:11

I would never watch her on that, would rather have root canal treatment without pain relief. Also, maybe I’m overthinking this, but coming up to the local elections I assume she won’t be allowed to talk SNP party issues, so it’ll be clothes and hairdo level chat? Just like the very contrived Vogue appearance during COP26. So ego-driven. Seriously, why is she not just getting on with the day job. There’s questions floating around Twitter today about the pay off for the investment bank CEO, we need more transparency around these issues, not a media appearance for personal PR purposes and to no doubt make jibes at Boris

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 20/04/2022 21:28

I just can't watch her on tv. It's not good for my blood pressure!

Scottishskifun · 21/04/2022 16:16

Interesting article in the BBC that new study shows only 1 in 4 ICU patients since Jan was there because of covid......

Surely the SG knew this so all the rubbish about there still being hospital numbers blah blah blah was simply because it fitted their narrative to keep restrictions longer! Would not be surprised if hospital general admissions figures were similar!

They really didn't want to relinquish the powers for no bloody good reason either if this study is anything to go by!

CuddlyCactus · 21/04/2022 17:17

@Scottishskifun I remember hearing Fergus Walsh speaking on BBC a couple of months ago when he stated that almost half of people in hospital in Scotland with covid were actually in for something else.
There have also been hundreds of people every week catching covid in hospital.

It's suited the Gov narrative just to give raw figures. Why on earth would we be interested in knowing Mr McGregor from Cumbernauld went into hospital to have an operation on his hand and incidentally tested positive for covid 🤷🏼‍♀️
As ever, the devil is in the detail

WouldBeGood · 21/04/2022 18:45

It’s all so depressing!

They are so disingenuous

Blimeyherewegoagain · 21/04/2022 23:38

This video is worth a watch but it also saddens me to see what has become of our country.

Scottishskifun · 22/04/2022 03:26

It gets more depressing when you read the article about current hepatitis cases in children rise..... they think its adenovirus which is really common flu like but one of the main theories is that lockdowns didn't expose children young enough to it so immune system is in overdrive........

As if the effects of lockdown on pre schoolers development, social skills and communication wasn't bad enough it's now a serious liver disease due to lack of exposure!

My DS is in this category but he went back to nursery after 3 months so I can only hope he's already had it and therefore not at risk of serious complications!

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 22/04/2022 09:28

I've also been following the hepatitis story @Scottishskifun as I also have children in the age range, and one of the first things that struck me was that Scotland seems proportionally to be much worse affected than the rest of the UK. 79 in England and 14 in Scotland (would be 7 or 8 if rates per population were the same, so almost twice as many as them). At first I thought it might be related to the COVID vaccine as autoimmune hepatitis is a known side effect and we went earlier with the younger ones, but it turns out the affected children hadn't had it (most being way too young). Immunity debt was the other thought I had early on, and indeed it seems the scientists looking into it are also leaning this way.

This makes total sense to me - toddlers have spent most/all of their lives with distancing and excessive cleaning and have been denied the opportunity to develop their immune systems properly. It also makes sense in terms of why Scotland should be worse off, as we went longer and harder with the measures to 'protect' our children from a disease that never posed a significant risk - we were the only part of the UK to shut nurseries in the Jan 21 wave, children's groups were closed for longer, and soft plays were famously shut for about 15 months I think (way longer than rUK anyway). The most frustrating thing is that people with an understanding of immunity have been warning of this kind of thing for a long time, but the rank amateurs making decisions in the UK, but particularly in Scotland, seem not to have considered these things at all! See also the perfectly predictable (because it was predicted!) damage to children's development by insisting everyone cover their face, even when the 'face coverings' being used in most cases were demonstrably useless in terms of infection control.

I'm also glad that I made sure that my children interacted with other children (for their social development as much as anything else), but I think it's important to keep it in perspective, and this side effect is still very rare.

Scottishskifun · 22/04/2022 09:43

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us Thanks yes I just need to keep reminding myself it's rare!
My concern is it's going to be like this for other illnesses too due to lack of exposure making them more serious. DS has a history of high fevers and ambulances having to be called.

DS was back at nursery sooner then most and theough Jan 2021 as DH was a key worker and our LA allowed 1 parent rule to be applied. I put him back for his social development.

I find it so frustrating that they still say we did what's best regardless of the level of seriousness associated with prolonged lockdowns coming to light!

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 22/04/2022 10:08

I think it's becoming more and more obvious that the measures taken were completely out of proportion and/or of limited benefit. The Lancet article pretty much proved that the restrictions made little difference to outcome. The nudge campaign throughout the UK was an absolute disgrace in the way it gas lighted and manipulated people into compliance, generated disproportionate anxiety while fostering too much faith in minimally effective measures (like masks) and effectively shut down any criticism as 'anti-science' and 'selfish/irresponsible'. The usual scientific debate of ideas and disagreements was sacrificed on the alter of 'clear messaging' even if the message wasn't an entirely accurate or helpful one. It's no surprise at all that children in particular have been massively harmed by the measures taken, given that it was obvious quite early on that they weren't badly effected by COVID (or long COVID, despite what the FM herself repeatedly implied to encourage compliance.) Their educational prospects have been severely damaged, irrevocably in some cases, development of many kinds has been severely impeded and physical health has been harmed (through immunity debt but also increased obesity and the like). At least people feel they can say it openly now without being accused of trying to kill grannies or something, and the line that it was all 'necessary' and/or 'responsible' is becoming less plausible. More so since the gap between Scotland and England became very wide in terms of restrictions, and it emerged we were actually worse off!

I expect a lot of the viruses we usually top up our immunity to each year, including adenoviruses but also flu, will come back with a vengeance after a long time out of circulation and consequent waning immunity. I think there's a real fear that this winter will see a bad flu season for exactly this reason, and I really hope that the powers that be are planning for that now so we don't get the usual reactive surprise when it arrives. Getting through the NHS backlog in the spring/summer is absolutely vital having shut down so much of the health service for so long, and I note that England are removing distancing requirements to help them do exactly that. They've decided that overall there is more benefit to seeing more patients than in trying to control COVID given that it has been, to use Devi's words, 'defanged'. The NHS is a shit show everywhere, but if the Scottish government resists a similar move in the name of 'caution' we could find ourselves under even more pressure when winter comes back around.

Catsolitude · 22/04/2022 11:08

Just got a text from a friend that their doctor’s surgery has sent text encouraging patients to keep wearing masks when visiting the surgery to keep everyone safe. When will this end?!

NowThatsWhatICall22 · 22/04/2022 11:15

Every time you post on here @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us I feel better, you capture everything I think but that I fail to express in a non-ranty or angry way. Really appreciate your posts.

Dinoteeth · 22/04/2022 11:28

It's crazy how much the one track mind has been at the detriment of everything else.

I know in my sons P1 year they were wiped out with Chicken Pox just before Easter. The school was putting it down to lack of immunity due to the SD in nurseries.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 22/04/2022 11:34

Thanks @NowThatsWhatICall22 although writing it all down is almost a kind of therapy for me to get the frustration out and I often feel like I'm ranting 😂

RaraRachael · 22/04/2022 12:17

Totally agree with PPs. Our lives have been totally taken over by information that probably isn't even true and scaremongering from the SG. OH went to Specsavers yesterday and was told to wear a mask - when will this nonsense end?
WE are being left to make up our own minds in school as to whether we choose to wear a mask. I have always been a bit rebellious but there are others who are still complying because they're scared if they don't they'll get the class from hell next year or some other misfortune. One PSA who hasn't got any illness or vulnerable family members is still going wearing a mask and rubber gloves ALL the time 🙄

mapleleavesreturn · 22/04/2022 12:57

An awful lot of people have been triggered into anxiety about all viruses, I'm hoping that at some point over the summer people will relax. I just keep thinking about what it's doing to kids to see so many adults who've lost control of being able to assess risk and evaluate evidence for themselves.
