I'm in the car reading a few threads where folks are fed up with the misery and fighting so thought I'd start a new thread. Not for politics or covid or fighting , just general stuff 🙂

I've had a nice day, off work on hols so we took a wee drive down to Peebles and had lunch, bought a few pies from lovely butcher and now heading home.

@ElephantOfRisk

I've been using this website quite a lot recently for recipes:

www.recipetineats.com/

Every recipe has turned out well so far.

The broccoli pasta definitely looks like something I need to add to my repertoire.
KittenKong · 18/10/2021 20:33

@titsintiers

Just my opinion but macaroni pies are just plain wrong
I’ve never tried one because I’m suspicious - I love macaroni, I love pie... it’s a bit like Buck’s Fizz (a waste of champagne and orange juice if you ask me).
ElephantOfRisk · 18/10/2021 20:35

We were just running through some stuff to put on a watch list for Christmas. Anyone watched Deadwood? Have added The Deerhunter and the original Papillon.

My cat loves the rain as long as it's not windy so is in and out, wanting dried and then going straight back out to sit in the rain again - weird creature.

Yes that was DH thinking, I love macaroni but we don't make it often as not everyone is as keen.
It was just too carby and the one I had, well it was not a great macaroni either. Win some, lose some.
Now lasagne pie..sounds interesting 🤔

ElephantOfRisk · 18/10/2021 20:36

What I like about that recipe website is that you can scale all the recipes with a sliding bar and it gives the new ingredients amounts.

I do an oven baked chicken and rice dish from there which is lovely.

Even wrong sounding things should be tried at least once. At least wrt food!

ElephantOfRisk · 18/10/2021 20:37

I'll get DSs feedback on the macaroni pie tomorrow as I think he'll have it for lunch.

@ElephantOfRisk I love that butcher’s shop in Peebles. Visit Peebles about 3 times a year . Osso restaurant used to be good . Haven’t tried it for a while.

titsintiers · 18/10/2021 20:40

Lasagne pie?! 😵‍💫

Never been to Osso but i'll put it on the list, The Crown pub is excellent.

Lovely thread OP

Just one thing, macaroni/lasagne pies are an abomination - what you need is a tattie & bean pie or a wee chicken pie

The new bond movie was fab & I'm not a bond fan - only went as my dad couldn't get anyone else to go with him had a spare ticket

My nice thing that happened today is that I started a new job & I can see the Wallace monument from my desk (when it's not hidden by the fog)

KittenKong · 18/10/2021 20:50

You must be close to my sister!

ElephantOfRisk · 18/10/2021 20:52

Tattie and bean sound great!

I can see the Wally Mony from my house when it's not hidden by a tree.....very foggy today though.

As for Harry Potter, DS1 read the books before the movies but DS2 is only a year younger but was too impatient to get through the books first. Definitely better to read first I think.

Ooh the Selkirk bannocks from the bakery in Peebles are awesome. Would recommend toasted, buttered with some cheese!

ElephantOfRisk · 18/10/2021 21:02

I've never tried them @gavisconismyfriend, it's DH being a borders boy that eats it. He definitely toasts and lashes the butter on but not sure what else he has. Jam?

We have pokemon and fifa AND dr who cards in the loft, as you say @ElephantOfRisk they might be worth a fortune...unless the mice or the mould have got them first. My boys bloody loved a card, must have spent a fortune on them and Microsoft points....
I'll look at that hairy bikers Spanish chicken recipe, i like those two. I also like Ansley Harriott, he's a daft bugger but he always cheers me up.

Has anyone heard about the gas explosion in Ayr?

DrWankincense · 18/10/2021 21:04

Another aye for the Bond film. It didn't seem as long as it was, I thought it was beautifully done with subtle nods to previous films. I really enjoyed it and so did DD 14.

titsintiers · 18/10/2021 21:04

Just googled selkirk bannocks, they look amazing.

Reminded me how much I love an Aberdeen buttery.

ssd · 18/10/2021 21:05

Sorry to just drop that in but dh seen something online and im a bit worried

ElephantOfRisk · 18/10/2021 21:08

Not heard about that @ssd

I generally enjoy a Bond film and normally the length of films doesn't worry me but since all the stress issues (and actually before I was ill too) I've struggled to maintain concentration with anything for too long. I get agitated and lose focus - i might need to go once with family and then go see the 2nd half on my own again later!

Sorry...late to the party..
You can get the radio times online.. select your own channels etc.. all free!!

Groovee · 18/10/2021 21:09

I saw about the gas explosion online. As Mr G is a gas engineer he gets a bit edgy when he hears these things.

titsintiers · 18/10/2021 21:09

There's been a gas explosion in Kincaidston in Ayr @ssd

Groovee · 18/10/2021 21:10

Found these drawings on the wall when we took the fire place and the paper off x
