Emmmm I'm not entirely sure how that's good news. They're still sick. Hmm

WouldBeGood · 23/03/2021 22:45

Because it doesn’t all stem from Covid, so no lockdown needed to prevent it

AnaofBroceliande · 23/03/2021 22:45
@user1487194234 personally I don’t give a shit about cases. If the hospitals are ok. And I think most people really think that
A lot of people can't feel they can admit that, though. But you're not alone.

UnderHisAye · 23/03/2021 22:46

Would that not mean that long Covid is about the damage inflicted on the body during the actual illness then? I mean, I never assumed it was because of having the virus for a long time, more that the virus goes but the damage to organs etc is done.

Like Derek Draper, it's said he has holes in his lungs.

WouldBeGood · 23/03/2021 22:46

No one would contemplate a lockdown for post viral syndrome nor psychological illness

WouldBeGood · 23/03/2021 22:47

No, @UnderHisAye it’s not long Covid in many cases: the people have not had Covid

I don't think I know anyone in real life who thinks that.

AnaofBroceliande · 23/03/2021 22:47

And more and more and more are becoming so whilst we lock everything down forever.
UnderHisAye · 23/03/2021 22:48

@WouldBeGood

No, *@UnderHisAye* it’s not long Covid in many cases: the people have not had Covid
So people who never had Covid have long Covid? Do you have a link, I want to understand this more?
WouldBeGood · 23/03/2021 22:48

People I meet in real life are not terrified of Covid now.

UnderHisAye · 23/03/2021 22:49

No, but neither are they going 'fuck case numbers, let's go clubbing'

forfucksakenett · 23/03/2021 22:49

I'm sorry I'm a bit confused about what your claiming here @WouldBeGood.

People get covid. It damages their bodies. Consequently they suffer the long term effects of that in a post viral type situation but because they don't have covid antibodies any more that's a good thing? Eh?

forfucksakenett · 23/03/2021 22:49

You're

WouldBeGood · 23/03/2021 22:52

@UnderHisAye

No, but neither are they going 'fuck case numbers, let's go clubbing'
I can’t believe that’s just me 😂
forfucksakenett · 23/03/2021 22:52

@WouldBeGood

People I meet in real life are not terrified of Covid now.
But that doesn't mean that covid isn't scary.

I'm not scared of sharks on a day to day basis but I don't want to go near one.

AnaofBroceliande · 23/03/2021 22:53

@WouldBeGood

People I meet in real life are not terrified of Covid now.
I'm not and lost a parent to it. I'm more terrified of 'living' like this.
WouldBeGood · 23/03/2021 22:55

Me too @AnaofBroceliande

AnaofBroceliande · 23/03/2021 22:57

Once you have both doses of the vaccine, are you still going to be terrified of it, for?

forfucksakenett · 23/03/2021 23:02

I'm not terrified of it. I just don't want it. Of course not but I'm in my 30s and that will be weeks away.

I'm still concerned about mutations affecting the efficacy of the vaccine as well.

WouldBeGood · 23/03/2021 23:05

I’ve probably phrased it badly. What it means is that people in the current climate attribute symptoms to long Covid when they are not. There is a possibility of post viral illness, as with many viruses, but it may not be as prevalent as it’s billed. Certainly not worthy of lockdown.

I’ll shut up now. I have a dismal funeral to prepare for. No clubbing tonight

UnderHisAye · 23/03/2021 23:14

Hope it's not too dismal tomorrow. KFC will make it greasier easier.

readsalotgirl63 · 23/03/2021 23:51

Catching up @Rae36 - we have been a couple of times to Glasgow from the NE and not been stopped. Traffic last time was surprisingly busy. We were travelling to see an elderly relative who is struggling.
@UnderHisAye - thanks for the link to www.progressscotland.org/your-story. Wonder if Angus Robertson really wants to hear "My Story" as I only found out he runs this site once I'd filled in exactly why I think the current administration are sh*te and I won't be voting SNP or Yes any time soon.

winched · 24/03/2021 00:50

People are not just worried about dying. They're worried about long covid and post covid consequences like lung scarring. The higher the cases the more chance you have of catching it.

I only know three people who are (or were) genuinely worried about this stuff. Two are in their seventies and one has health anxiety.

I know far, far more people who are genuinely more worried about the effects of lockdown. Including myself.

Before the vaccine a large proportion of people I know (especially u40s with no health conditions) were completely resigned to catching it. I was certainly feeling this way before Christmas. But then my business was impacted and my adhd became unbearable and my children struggled hugely without school / being stuck in a flat. The risk of long covid kinda paled in comparison to be honest.

Different circles I guess.

winched · 24/03/2021 00:54

On another note... did anyone see Ruth Davidson's comments about the 60,000 missed vaccine appointments last week?

I know at least one of the 60,000, she received the letter two days before appointment for a centre in another local authority, two buses and over an hour away.

I'm not clear on why they can't be done at GP surgeries like in England?

Also wondering if the stories coming out of Europe are having an impact on the levels of confidence.

PostieModern · 24/03/2021 07:15

@winched absolutely no sign of vaccine hesitancy here in West Lothian if the queues at the Pryamids Business Centre in Bathgate are anything to go by. Pretty much everyone I know is desparate to get their Jag and the view about Europe is poor / stupid them
