Thanks all. We are going, it's ridiculous I feel guilty about it. This past year has really messed with my head. Usually I think I've come through it relatively unscathed then something like this makes me realise how messed up my judgement is

Bytheloch · 23/03/2021 14:37

Rae the rules control the masses.
You’re ‘allowed’ for both mental health reasons and to provide care, always have been. Please go. Don’t worry about being stopped, that simply isn’t happening, unless a traffic offence is committed.

WouldBeGood · 23/03/2021 14:37

All I can say is that you might regret it if you don’t go.

A woman at my work, a doctor, deeply regrets obeying the rules in similar circumstances.

But equally don’t go if you go if it makes you feel too guilty. It’s not your fault.

dancemom · 23/03/2021 14:39

I'd say so @jerometheturnipking, the virus is circulating but less people are becoming ill and requiring hospital treatment from it.

Western Isles to go into T3 from Wednesday evening, down from T4.

Bytheloch · 23/03/2021 14:47

Nobody should feel guilty or fear getting fined for travelling across arbitrary boundaries to visit family and friends under any circumstances. I’m still baffled as to how they can continue to justify the council area restrictions when we’re all following the same set of guidance across mainland Scotland.

It’s guidance from the 2nd, but I’m assuming they’ll continue to layer on the guilt messages about leaving your local area until the end of April. Truly hideous control and power games. Never think it’s because they personally care.

AnaofBroceliande · 23/03/2021 14:52

I've had to travel across several councils to access medical treatment. Never been stopped.

PostieModern · 23/03/2021 14:55

I have also had a few work trips over the last two months. Have never been stopped and the roads are surprisingly busy

dancemom · 23/03/2021 15:01

I cross Council areas three times a week (for allowable reasons) but I've never been or seen anyone be stopped.

Ecthelion · 23/03/2021 15:19

I haven't been stopped but was once questioned by police when (legitimately) out exercising in the area (Perthshire). They asked if I lived/worked locally.

Scottishskifun · 23/03/2021 16:03

I think they have given up stopping people they just fine those who get rescued from outside their LA.

The police regularly patrol around the beach in my town but they don't do or say anything and plenty of families sitting on the beach. But it's not exactly warm and people keep a distance from each other so like the majority of people see no issue with it despite being against the "stay in your house" thing!

snowcoveredcampsies · 23/03/2021 16:09

@Rae36

I'm planning on driving across the country with my teenage son on Sunday, I want to see my gran who has been ill, she's at home now to die really so it's now or never if we want her to know we are there and it's not too upsetting for ds. I felt like that was an okay reason to go but now it's nearly time I'm worrying about getting stopped and fined and sent home. It's just ridiculous that I'm feeling so stupidly guilty about what's probably the last time I'll see my gran. I hate this.
Sorry to hear about your gran.

This is a perfectly legitimate reason to travel anywhere and always has been since last March. Go and spend that import a time with her. Its perfectly within your rights.

RaspberryCoulis · 23/03/2021 16:59

A month since the test positivity rate was over 5%.

2.2 million vaccinated, around 49% of all adults.

Hospital admissions back to where we were at the end of September.

New reported cases back to where we were at the end of September.

R number under 1.

And we're still 4 weeks away from Secondary kids being back at school, non-essential retail opening and being able to do anything remotely fun.

forfucksakenett · 23/03/2021 17:02

Well to be fair things didn't go great after September did they? Maybe a bit of caution is a good thing.

Yes we have a vaccine but we also have huge numbers across the globe unvaccinated which means mutations. These mutations seem to have the scientists spooked and even Boris is worried. That's saying something.

Perihelion · 23/03/2021 18:15

Does anyone know where the lateral flow test results for school kids are being reported? Or if they even are?

forfucksakenett · 23/03/2021 18:21

@Perihelion

Does anyone know where the lateral flow test results for school kids are being reported? Or if they even are?
To the NHS only. If you report a positive on a lateral flow you need to go and book a proper test. If that comes back positive it goes into the official numbers.
Icannever · 23/03/2021 18:22

@Scottishskifun I don’t think police patrol round us, we were at the beach on Sunday and it was full of students having big parties in bikinis 🥶🥶🥶. Some smaller groups sitting round drinking and one large group. It was kind of crazy, I mean it was a reasonable day for March I guess but bikinis!

WouldBeGood · 23/03/2021 18:24

@forfucksakenett but there’s a highly effective vaccine now.

@RaspberryCoulis it’s becoming ludicrous.

For anyone who’s worried, I’m a fat 51 year old in a central area and on doing the Covid calculator my chances of catching and dying from Covid were 0.0027

WouldBeGood · 23/03/2021 18:26

@Icannever bikinis 😱😱 Bloody hell people are hardy.

forfucksakenett · 23/03/2021 18:28

@WouldBeGood I still think they're right to be concerned about mutations and vaccine escape tbh.

WouldBeGood · 23/03/2021 18:30

It’s a massive difference from September though.

Cismyfatarse · 23/03/2021 18:32

So, some may remember my exciting vaccine trial. 2 jabs. Blood. White twix (yuck - worse than the needle) and the future of science in my body.

Well, turns out I was in the salty water part of the trial. So, off to get the Oxford one on Sunday. I am very excited but strangely disappointed too.

forfucksakenett · 23/03/2021 18:32

Hopefully. Boris and Whitty et al weren't looking too positive at the briefing.

HadEnoughOfBears · 23/03/2021 18:37

@PostieModern

Hello all. I've been lurking on the last thread and thought I'd take this new one as an opportunity to join in. I'm in 'dirty' West Lothian Hmm but not the really bad (ATM) bit
Me too. That's a huge outbreak that's spread through those 2 schools!
RaindropsSplashRainbows · 23/03/2021 18:38

Cismy well done for volunteering.
