Believe both Scotland and Wales are reporting for two days in one so numbers a little misleadingly high.

It's Scotland *@Scottishskifun*!!!
Yes but it's been so nice for the last week solid! Pubs open and it pees it down! Just feel sorry they have been waiting too long for today and then sods law happens!
WouldBeGood · 26/04/2021 17:02

I’ve said it before, but I’m convinced Queen Nic controls the weather

rookiemere · 26/04/2021 19:32

DH and DDog braved the rain to enjoy a post lockdown outdoor pint at pub made famous by Nicola recently. Ddog reportedly disappointed by the lack of dog biscuits .

Scottishskifun · 26/04/2021 21:32

Awww definitely a feedback to the app need dog biscuits please! My DDog looks at us with disdain if we try dog biscuits she just wants cheese!

Wish I was able to get to the pub week 5 of sodding covid recovery and I managed 100 m walk without having to stop huzzah!

It was from my car to the nurse room for my smear test I'm so rock and roll grand day out to get my bits out! 😂

WouldBeGood · 26/04/2021 21:36

Aw, poor @rookie dog!

And @Scottishskifun that’s not a fun way to get your bits out!

Icannever · 26/04/2021 21:44

That’s really tough @Scottishskifun. Hope things start getting better soon, does anything help?
Thanks for the numbers @dancemom, everything’s looking good especially considering half the high school kids have been back for two weeks now.

I’ve been feeling really miserable the last two days and not sure why. I think it’s because I’ve been looking at booking stuff to do with the kids or booking holidays and everything’s so much harder than usual and all the rules make me feel a bit meh. I’ve got a bit miserable and can’t actually make myself book anything which means we will end up not able to go anywhere or do anything because it will all be booked up 😬😬. Think I need to give myself a kick up the backside

Scottishskifun · 26/04/2021 21:50

Not really @Icannever I'm still off work the fatigue and breathlessness is a real bitch. GP told me 6-12 weeks. Not doing much reduces the fatigue been told to keep trying but to stop as soon as I feel fatigued..... Which is a bit impossible with a toddler! Going to need to buy DH a Saint medal and a weeks trip with the boys for all he is doing but got a cleaner starting soon to take some pressure off. Never thought I would miss hoovering but 5 mins and I'm exhausted!

Scottishskifun · 27/04/2021 07:13

Report today about the true effects of lock down on early years speech and language development on the BBC (in England)

I'm not surprised at all but hoping SG pay attention to the findings of impact.

DS did become very withdrawn first lock down til we were able to get him back to nursery under the 1 key worker policy.

WouldBeGood · 27/04/2021 09:04

@Scottishskifun that’s very worrying, and was eminently foreseeable. It’s just so wrong. I truly hope lessons have been learned. It’s such an important stage. I’m really glad you were able to get your DS into nursery.

Scottishskifun · 27/04/2021 09:25

We are lucky and can afford private nursery and my DH is a key worker.
But I think of all the children who don't attend, have had no toddler groups, play groups, bookbug in the library etc people were saying that they weren't necessarily, they are hardly a priority in a pandemic etc etc.
I would argue that this shows the removal of it has a huge untold effect because its delaying child development massively and they can't even tell you!

My HV said in our assessment that about a half of the toddlers she sees are now very far behind and there is nothing they can do other than give parents tips and encouragement as the speech waiting list has gone through the roof (currently now at 18 months in my area).

WouldBeGood · 27/04/2021 09:29

Yes. And despite all the “children are resilient” shite, they can’t get back those stages of development.

Icannever · 27/04/2021 11:48

My child has had speech therapy since he was four, verbal dyspraxia, he’s had to learn how to make lots of sounds. He’s definitely not at a level where I think his speech is normal yet and this year they’ve just said he can do all the sounds now so we can’t help you anymore! I was pretty shocked as though his initial sounds are now pretty good he needs lots more work on the middle sounds. I’m guessing their waiting lists were so long they were under pressure to discharge him. Also the nhs version of zoom for speech therapy (obviously less than ideal anyway for speech therapy) took months and months to set up so they would be way behind from that as well. Ds had about 6 months of nothing then a couple of months and then discharged. Trying to work out what to do now 😬

Scottishskifun · 27/04/2021 12:04

@Icannever how frustrating! Might be worth a Facebook search/local shout out as generally I have found the people who know best about options are other parents going through it and sharing.

They also generally have great knowledge of stuff that can be done at home, stuff to ask school and information on private specialists.

florafoxtrot · 27/04/2021 12:10

Quite interesting to hear the different experiences, my nephews were referred for speech therapy at the end of last year and have already had a session through the NHS. I believe via Zoom which obviously isn't ideal but BIL very impressed at the speed of the referral. It was supported through their HV and the nursery.

Western Isles now offering vaccine to anyone aged 18 and over, they are flying ahead up there!
