I think you're probably right @rookiemere and that the plan will evolve as the vaccine data and impact are felt.

littlbrowndog · 24/02/2021 12:08

That is a major problem with message

It’s not clear or even vaguely we are getting there

And I think what has stood out
You will move into tier3
. I feel like we have been in that tier for so long that I want to give up

Baaaah
@GoldenOmber I just don't understand how this is 1. A surprise or 2. Unique to Scotland.

Dr Fauci was saying social distancing and masks were likely to be with us beyond vaccination in certain circumstances and so was Patrick Vallance?

I think they are talking about very specific things and times. Like the height of winter when they expect a surge kind of thing.

I will admit that I don't understand it fully myself but surely they aren't just trying to be dicks? Maybe I'm just too trusting. I don't understand why a bunch of professionals would wake up and say let's collide together to fuck up peoples lives.
This.

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/02/2021 12:16

It seems like they're taking account of the downside (the Kent variant and its increased transmission rate) by moving to WHO criteria for infection numbers and positivity, but ignoring the upside of vaccination meaning that the same case count has a vastly different hospitalisation and death rate

dancemom · 24/02/2021 12:31

Just 3.9% of tests positive today with hospital numbers down 55 cases

hilbil21 · 24/02/2021 12:36

Wee Sturgbot has a completely different tone today. She's being all nicey nicey lol.

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/02/2021 12:42

Saw a headline saying Leitch was saying we could have UK holidays this year. I guess they now know they misjudged the reaction to their message yesterday.

OldRailer · 24/02/2021 12:43

Interesting Wax.

fluffyugg · 24/02/2021 12:45

She's just said that local authorities could go straight into level 2 end of April..

hilbil21 · 24/02/2021 12:46

Today seems so so much more positive than yesterday?

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/02/2021 12:46

Haven't read it but looks like a Herald article - my phone pointed me to it.

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/02/2021 12:48

They must have got feedback on yesterday's message and how it was received. I think they had the feeling that the majority were still terrified in their houses and wanted it dragged out.

ShowmetheSnowdrops · 24/02/2021 12:48

Spoke to our friends in hospitality industry in Scotland and they’re just at the end of their tether.

Looks like NS realises they got the messaging wrong yesterday.
Here’s hoping for more clarity.

hilbil21 · 24/02/2021 12:49

Very much so. She reminds me of a nice primary school headmistress today haha.
Scottishskifun · 24/02/2021 12:51

There seems to be a backtrack even saying the document they produced does not outline the full regional tiers or how this is split or travel information.

So I ask why produce and release it if not as Ruth Davidson said yesterday as a holding document?! (and I don't like agreeing with Tories)
It's like they didn't anticipate the general public actually reading it fully......so why write and publish it!

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/02/2021 12:51

Be worried about their votes of course - but it's not political - oh no it definitely isn't....

Scottishskifun · 24/02/2021 12:53

The document they produced definitely does say travel restrictions between international, common travel areas(rest of the UK) and internally within Scotland BTW so seems to be back track in relation to within Scotland

Coquohvan · 24/02/2021 12:58

@dancemom that’s great. Between yesterday and today’s hospital figures there is a drop off 10% in general hospital in two days.

runningpink · 24/02/2021 13:00

Even if some areas go into level 2 instead of 3 it won’t make much difference in terms of travel as you weren’t allowed to travel to see people in the higher tier areas.

So will they make it out like here’s your reward you can travel but actually you can’t really.

Oh and the schools here are closed for inservice/May holiday on 30th April/3rd May!
So back for 9 whole days then off again! 🤦🏻‍♀️

ashmts · 24/02/2021 13:04

I'm not watching the briefing as on lunch break at work but BBC News says:

"The first minister confirms she is looking at the levels and says two things are different from last year.

The first is that schools are returning in a phased programme and the second is that the virus is more transmissible.

She adds the new variant makes up "more than 85% of new cases"."

Did she really say that? Surely the fact almost 1/3 of the country has had their first vaccine dose is a major difference to last year? Is she determined to ignore that?

MaxNormal · 24/02/2021 13:08

ashmts that stood out for me too. There's a third thing different from last year, why is that determindly being ignored? Why the pretence that the vaccines aren't being rolled out?

Scottishskifun · 24/02/2021 13:12

@ashmts this is what is dumbfounding me with all of this, road map, new WHO level tier thresholds, modelling (from their own account BTW in their strategic framework before I get told do I have a magic ball)and the current situation - there is zero mention of vaccination delivered being encorporated into it!

Data shows 3-4 weeks for 85-94% protection from one dose this is huge and it shouldn't be ignored in the analysis and strategy!

Coquohvan · 24/02/2021 13:14

I was listening to JVT this morning and he said - our vaccines are coping with the Kent variant, it’s around 90% of current UK infections. Hospitalisation and death are both showing a decline meaning stopping severe cases. Further investigations needed for SA and BRZ variant though they are in much smaller cases and hopes the same outcome.
I highly regard him.
Did she mentioned the variant name?

anon444877 · 24/02/2021 13:15

I'd like Sturgeon to out and out confirm that people can travel within the UK at a certain point to end the uncertainty...Jason Leitch isn't a politician in charge of travel restrictions.
