@RaspberryCoulis

Yes the mythical tier 0 which was being touted as " normal" but still meant restrictions on numbers inside, masks, social distancing and no travel?
Yes “almost normal”, was it my backside. Wicked gaslighting witch.
StatisticallyChallenged · 24/02/2021 00:01

There was an AZ study showing it reduces transmission by 2/3 - think it's still being reviewed

Yep I think early data was circa 66% which is promising I think they are also looking at the Kent variety as well before publishing.

I haven't heard much about the Pfizer studies yet.

Anyone seen the 10yo kid who flew into Edinburgh from Finland to see his Dad, he's to quarantine in a hotel and because he's a minor needs an adult with him cost of £2300!

He won't get any time with his sister (I'm assuming half sister) either?

I'm sure that has to be anti the childs human rights. Or it's not its certainly against the whole GIRFEC.

runningpink · 24/02/2021 06:48

I don’t even want to get out of bed today, what is the point

I've missed the announcements due to being at work.

I was wondering as when you do the testing that we do for work, we log it with the nhs. Does anyone know if these get put into the daily numbers. As it's the first week I'm wondering if we will see an increase of tests.

Direwolfwrangler · 24/02/2021 07:07

@Groovee if it’s a lateral flow test then it won’t be counted in the daily numbers. That’s what we have been told for schools anyway.

Urgh- this is such an uncomfortable read. Don’t know the full story, but surely this shouldn’t be happening for a child. Quarantine could be with father, at home?
RaspberryCoulis · 24/02/2021 07:53

All children back to school in England on 8th March.

Primary children and exam year children back in Wales on 15th March.

Northern Ireland still deciding, but "strong case" for all kids back on 8th March.

Scotland? 19th of fucking APRIL.

And yes, all the people going on about how really, Queen Nicola's plan is just the same as Boris's but with a few wee tweaks. Rubbish. All she's doing is dangling the "carrot" of tier 3 plus in front of us, for 2 months time. That's no people in the house, restaurants closed at 6pm, no glass of wine with your lunch, no leaving your local authority area.

Tone matters. Boris - for all his faults - stood up on Monday and was positive. We have the vaccine, the vaccine is working really well and we're rolling it out, this means we can start to relax X, Y and Z.

Nicola - variants, mutations, zero covid, don't be getting your hopes up, no dates, ongoing public health measures...

Like @rookiemere, and lots of RL friends on my FB page, we're done. And yes, it grinds my gears that posters are giving Saint Nicola all of the credit for "getting numbers so low" last summer. Numbers were low everywhere last summer because Covid is a seasonal virus.

Not sure if that link will work but how cruel. Children who live between parents should be exempt the same as they are allowed to travel between other parts of the UK.

Lockdownbear · 24/02/2021 08:12

Raspberry when you see it set out like that I wonder if the backlash will be enough for a u turn and get all years back on 15th.

Groovee · 24/02/2021 08:14

I saw the child who had to quarantine yesterday and my first thought was GIRFEC.

rookiemere · 24/02/2021 08:19

@Lockdownbear there will be no backlash. Parents Complaining about school return dates = Usforthem= Bunch of conspiracy theorist loons.

Opposition in government isn't coherent enough to mount a protest and to be fair, probably want to see what happens in England.

I'm not intrinsically opposed- or wasn't- to taking it slowly for schools, but the lying about school holiday dates to make it seem better than it is and the uncertainty about if my S3 will actually be in school more than one day a week or whatever, has made me so bitter and upset. And no way to protest except here really.

Rae36 · 24/02/2021 08:20

I know there will be a million reasons why it won't work but if the back to school dates can't be shifted then why can't we shift the easter holidays to the last 2 weeks in March then have everyone back early April? Saves 2 weeks of stressful home schooling and gives 2 more weeks in school. It's not like people can gave lots of holiday plans. And home school for s1 to 3 is going to be bottom priority those 2 weeks anyway with more senior kids in high school.

Although maybe the senior kids really need that time? Poor s1-3, it's so shit for them.

Ami being daft but aren't we the same as Wales?
horseymum · 24/02/2021 08:28

Seeing those WHO figures was a bit depressing as Falkirk and West Lothian would be in Level 4. We have explored every inch of our council area and really want to be able to get out! The thought we might go to level 3 was cheering because it meant my kid's music lessons could return to face to face after a whole year of zoom but that looks unlikely now.

Lockdownbear · 24/02/2021 08:28

One issue with changing dates so late would be parents who have booked time off work who maybe can't change dates, inc keyworkers who won't have cover for the changed Easter but unable to change their own holidays.

Changing dates sounds logical but it has it's own issues.

GirlLovesWorld · 24/02/2021 08:30

Our school holidays go from end of March to Friday the 9th, I guess it's not standard across the country.

RaspberryCoulis · 24/02/2021 08:32

Past caring @NearWildHeaven. Is Wales what we should be aspiring to? My S1 has missed so much school over the last year and it's just completely unacceptable.

NearWildHeaven · 24/02/2021 08:34

@RaspberryCoulis can't disagree with that. Same here.

Was just clarifying.... are same as Wales? I didn't watch yesterday so have been picking everything up from here and messages from friends / family. From your post it looked like we were behind everyone else so wasn't sure if I had picked up wrong

NearWildHeaven · 24/02/2021 08:35

Oh ffs ... that should be....are we the same as Wales?

Need caffeine!

RaspberryCoulis · 24/02/2021 08:39

And the BBC repeating again this morning the barefaced lie that all children are back 5th April in schools.

NearWildHeaven · 24/02/2021 08:40

@RaspberryCoulis to be honest that bit pissed me off the most. Call it like it is. I know it's different across Scotland but for us here it's 19 April. Practically another 2 months.

Same for our school. I’m in Fife

Hopefully everyone who is opposed to how things are being managed is writing to their local MSP to express this so that representation of the unhappiness is achieved.

Otherwise there is just a lot of moaning but no action.

There's another thread on Mumsnet at the moment from a poster who is so focused on her possible death that she can not enjoy her life because of it.This is exactly what is happening on a larger scale with Nicola Sturgeon and the Scottish Government, who bizarrely still appear to think it is possible to outrun death.

The ideology that informs the actions (and yes, it is ideology at work, the data is interpreted through ideological aspirations and ideas of 'acceptable' levels of deaths) is completely unworkable, because we have a sizeable proportion of the population who are never going to abide by the rules, which will keep the level of infection up.

Maybe this proportion is 20%...that means the remaining 80% of the population are indefinitely held hostage to the attempt to achieve the unachievable. What a shit show and what a complete lack of understanding of human behaviour.
