I'm up for firing of a letter but my last letter seemed to have the opposite effect.

rookiemere · 24/02/2021 08:46

It's like the BBC don't even know what day Easter Monday is. Yes like others that's the bit that's made me so angry, and the fact that the media is lapping it up is even more enervating.
Say it as it is or it's as if our DCs don't matter- although of course to most purposes they don't. Wonder what date garden centres opening this time round- if it's before my son goes back to school this time, then I'm well and truly done.

Friend suggested garden meeting on 15 March. I've said why not inside. Zero point in complying in Scotland any more.

Lidlfix · 24/02/2021 08:55

No blooming way are my fixed holidays being changed again. I sympathise with DPs of S1-3 entirely - my BGE classes have saved my sanity with their participation in online learning and amazing attitudes but no an early Easter holiday is not the solution.

Many schools, which means pupils not just the adults who work in them, lost a week in August when there were fewer restrictions to have the time back in October when there were more restrictions or Christmas even more restrictions or June might not happen as the SQA deadline is now 25th. And I say this as a parent as well as a teacher. Correct - beyond walks and maybe being able to meet up with some more people outside I don't have plans. But yet another school holiday with a stay at home order in place will be really harmful to kids. But the days stretch even more as we go into April , it (the rain) is warmer and the changes that come into play on the 5th will allow a little more freedom for adults and children.

Senior pupils will use the time to revise - they always do, so much better for them to have had even a couple of weeks of blended learning or whatever is announced before then.

The length of the resulting term also needs to be considered especially for the youngest pupils could end up being 12 or 13 weeks . They would be exhausted. We would all be exhausted.

runningpink · 24/02/2021 08:59

Jason was in bbc trying to justify how the time frames for implementing stuff are similar it’s just that Scotland are reviewing after 3 weeks and England 5 weeks!

They genuinely think they have given us good news/a reward don’t they! When it’s so far in the opposite direction.

GoLightlyontheEarth · 24/02/2021 09:00

Has there been any mention of when holiday lets will reopen? Will it be from 26 April for those not in level 4?

Lockdownbear · 24/02/2021 09:01

When will 40 somethings get the vaccine?

makingitupaswegoon · 24/02/2021 09:06

@suggestionsplease1
I am going to write to my SNP MSP and say that sadly he has lost my vote because of the way we are moving at glacial speed when evidence does not suggest the need for this - vaccinations, better treatments, moving into spring. I am not saying throw all caution to the wind but really some serious assessment of other harms now necessary and review every 2 weeks.

RaspberryCoulis · 24/02/2021 09:06

Whenever the school holidays are, there will not be ONE child back to school on 5th April.

Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Highland Region, Fife, Borders - all back 19th April. DumGal and Aberdeen back the week before.

it's like "all P1-P3 back after half term on 22nd Feb" when for many people the half term was over well before that.

OldRailer · 24/02/2021 09:08

The art of spin.

Lidlfix · 24/02/2021 09:11

As a 40 something who wouldn't be routinely called for a flu vaccination, unless they move to prioritising by occupation I think it will be July /August. Sooner would be great then I might be going into school year 21/22 with both doses.

GirlLovesWorld · 24/02/2021 09:17

Between May and July for me

Rae36 · 24/02/2021 09:27

There are lots of small business round our way, cafes especially, now taking bookings for meal indoors from the end of April. Which is half exciting and half depressing given it's 2 months away. I like their optimism though, they have tried so hard to adjust to every change and keep going.

RaspberryCoulis · 24/02/2021 09:37

Small businesses are on their knees. Lots of little independent shops by us are really struggling, yes there's furlough but that doesn't pay rent, utility bills or anything else.

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/02/2021 09:42

I posted this on the railing thread but worth sharing here.

The who have additional categories, hospitalisation and mortality. We are in different categories based on those (3 heading to 2) compared to case numbers. The reason...
The WHO doc is from November and doesn't mention vaccines.
We're already seeing the impact of vaccines as they're making our stats inconsistently, so hospitalisation are lower than you'd "expect " given case rates. Mortality lags hospitalisation so you'll see this catching up soon too.

GirlLovesWorld · 24/02/2021 10:01

Thanks for that @StatisticallyChallenged

There's no real way to compare hospitalisation rates is there? Since we can't compare case numbers with last March, I mean. Would be interesting to do the comparison but I'm not sure if we can.

makingitupaswegoon · 24/02/2021 10:05

So many places already closed and not reopening near me. It's really sad. So many life-affirming things have gone and unlikely to come back quickly in a way that will be enjoyable - live music, singing, theatre, cinema, meeting friends and having a meal without facemasks. So many small business decimated. For the first time I am seriously considering leaving Scotland when DS is older. I can't bear the 'naughty people', this is all your fault' tone to everything or the sense that things are being done 'for my own good' and ease in which the Scottish Gov takes away freedoms but doesn't reinstate them

kurtrussellsbeard · 24/02/2021 10:12

If this thread was a newspaper it would be the Daily Express.

GoldenOmber · 24/02/2021 10:21

@kurtrussellsbeard

If this thread was a newspaper it would be the Daily Express.
In what way? Because you don’t like it? I would have thought that the Express would be on the side of the ‘keep our borders closed to keep out the human disease vectors’ side of things, myself.
kurtrussellsbeard · 24/02/2021 10:22

No. Because of the hyperbole.

OldRailer · 24/02/2021 10:23

The sun just appeared and it looks like spring out there

kurtrussellsbeard · 24/02/2021 10:24

@OldRailer it was like that on Monday here and it was actually so exciting.

GirlLovesWorld · 24/02/2021 10:32

Actually even the Daily Mail isn't as dramatic Grin which is quite a surprise!

Tiers until the end of time
anon444877 · 24/02/2021 10:34

Ha the Daily Mail is trying to force Boris to open faster by picking on the vague claim that shops may be faster here. Hardly unbiased.

anon444877 · 24/02/2021 10:35

Sorry pubs and restaurants, not shops!

OldRailer · 24/02/2021 10:35

I think people should be allowed to express themselves without mockery tbh.
