Silly to ask really but do we think meet outside doesn't actually mean sit in a garden.

I do hAve uptight neighbours..

Bytheloch · 23/02/2021 15:55

@Malteser71

I would be done with this, too.

I’m so sorry for scotland today. Get in the car and drive.

Fully intend to.
RaspberryCoulis · 23/02/2021 15:55

@OldRailer

Just how does major community mixing down at the polling station fit in here?
Well clearly it's a step on the road to IndyRef2. The only thing which matters more than Covid.

Fuck your mental health, fuck your children's education, fuck seeing parents or doing anything fun. As long as we get our "mandate".

Fucking HATE her.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 23/02/2021 15:56

It's fucking nonsense anyway. Go into any park and there are groups of more than 2. The rule of 6 is pretty much normality for most folk (not me, ironically, as almost all my friends and family live in other LAs). So we're getting nothing extra till end end of April. Maybe. And not if you live in or around Glasgow.

Malteser71 · 23/02/2021 15:59

House swap, by the loch?!

I wouldn’t mind being by a loch. You can borrow my seaside property.

Rae36 · 23/02/2021 15:59

I feel like she's totally misread the room today. A bit of hope would have kept people going but now everyone is just going to say fuck it

Yep.

MaxNormal · 23/02/2021 15:59

I am so miserably fucking angry today.

HGC2 · 23/02/2021 16:01

I really could have done with some hope, even if it ended up being too optimistic, 9 more weeks then we might get to level 3 - so lockdown really! I could cry

Justmuddlingalong · 23/02/2021 16:01

Ye'll find out at the polls.

It’s Edinburgh specific... because he’s in Edinburgh... but...

CORONAVIRUS AND WEST EDINBURGH: UPDATE 31 – 23/02/2021

Update includes, phased route out of Lockdown for Scotland; Vaccine news; advice to shielders.

As ever I am here and keen to help you if I can. Unfortunately, I cannot process casework via social media and cannot respond to every comment to my posts across the 15 groups I post in. If I can assist you in anyway please email me at [email protected] in the first instance.

ROUTE OUT OF LOCKDOWN:

Government envisage a progressive easing of the current level 4 restrictions at intervals of at least 3 weeks - along with changes nationally on education and care home visiting - with the immediate priority being the continued return of schools.

It is hoped we will move out of lockdown and into levels from Monday 26th March.

FROM NOW

  • The first easing started yesterday with the partial return of schools.
  • Universities and colleges are able to bring back a small number of students – no more than 5 % of the total - where face to face teaching is critical.
  • We will also ease restrictions on care home visiting from early March.

FROM 15TH MARCH:

  • The next phase of school return - which will start with the rest of the primary school years, 4 to 7, and getting more senior phase secondary pupils back in the classroom for at least part of their learning.
  • Restart of outdoors non contact group sports for 12 - 17 year olds
  • Will also aim to increase the limit on outdoor mixing between households to 4 people from a maximum of 2 households - compared to 2 people from 2 households just now.

FROM 5TH APRIL (indicatively)

  • Final phase of school return to take place on this date.
  • Communal worship will also restart around 5 April, albeit with restricted numbers to begin with. However, in deciding the exact date for this, Government will also take account of the timing of major religious festivals.
  • Easing of estrictions on outdoor gatherings so that at least 6 people from 2 households can meet together.
  • Begin the re-opening of retail. This will start with an extension of the definition of essential retail and the removal of restrictions on click-and collect.

FROM 26TH APRIL (indicative)

  • Edinburgh will step down from level 4 to level 3, (where we were before Christmas), this will be reviewed 3 weeks later with a view to stepping down to level 2 and every week thereafter.
  • Phased but significant re-opening of the economy, including non essential retail, hospitality and services like gyms and hairdressers will re-open.

VACCINE NEWS

It found that by the fourth week after a first dose being administered, the Pfizer and Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines reduced the risk of hospitalisation from Covid by 85% and 94% respectively.

Assuming we receive adequate supply - aim to have offered first doses to the entire adult population by the end of July, rather than September as previously anticipated.

The early evidence on the impact of vaccination on transmission of the virus - including that published by Public Health England yesterday - is also extremely encouraging.

ADVICE TO SHIELDERS

The Chief Medical Officer’s advice means that if you are on the shielding list, and you live in part of Scotland which is currently in level 4 lockdown – including Edinburgh – you should not go into work, even if you have had one or both doses of the vaccine. This will be reviewed as the picture changes.

fluffyugg · 23/02/2021 16:04

@MaxNormal

I think she's totally fucked up as Isurvive has said. With a bit of hope and positive news you'd be encouraged to hang on just a bit longer knowing you're on the home stretch. This though - this will just make people give up and do what they want anyway. Because the dubious promise of Tier 3 after another eight miserable weeks is no incentive whatsoever.
Totally...she said at one point 'just a bit longer'. No, we've all done that. The vaccine cavalry is here, it's time for hope and light. I have agreed with her actions mostly throughout but today's approach was very badly judged.

Posting from England here. To anyone saying you’d prefer Johnson, you are very welcome to him, but please do be mindful of the phrase ‘be careful what you wish for’...

RaspberryCoulis · 23/02/2021 16:06

How on EARTH can she say schools return from 5th April when it's te first day of the holidays? That's a barefaced lie.

Brass neck on her.

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/02/2021 16:06

I'm very much in the "had enough" camp. I was really hoping for something more tangible. This is shite.

The latest info is that the two vaccines we're using reduce hospitalisation by I think 86 and 94%. Let's just go down the middle and call it 90%, I'm being rough and ready. Now on raw stats of cases vs deaths the UK has a covid death rate of 2.9% - in reality it is a lot less as there are many cases which won't have had a positive test due to being asymptomatic or before testing was widely available. But, let's run with it. If we assume that the impact on death rate is the same as it is on hospitalisation (I've seen evidence it's actually higher) then we get a 90% reduction in death rate giving us a virus with a death rate of 0.29%. And because the deaths are hugely skewed to the at risk groups most of that reduction will have occured already (or will have very soon, highest priority groups already done and currently working on the other ones, expected to be done by April)

So, very soon we will have a virus which will be far less severe.

If a virus had emerged with the sort of hospitalisation and mortality rate we are seeing post vaccine, would we have ever entered lockdown? Well...worldwide there estimated to have been 2.5m covid deaths in a bit more than a year but let's call it a year for ease.

The WHO estimate that worldwide flu causes 290,000 - 650,000 deaths per year. So we can probably assume that the post vaccination covid death rates are broadly in the same sort of range as flu. And we sure as shit don't go in to tier 3 lockdown for flu, do we?

puppychaos · 23/02/2021 16:06

Is everywhere going into Level 3 at the end of April? We're in Aberdeenshire and I'm a bit confused (isn't everyone!).

onlythewildones · 23/02/2021 16:07

Thanks bytheloch and emma. I’ve been very sanguine about all restrictions so far but this local authority thing is madness. DH has been travelling to England for work throughout. Feeling sorely tempted to say fuck it and go and see my nephews and nieces.

ShowmetheSnowdrops · 23/02/2021 16:08

I’ve messaged my DM to tell her we’re going to drive up from England and collect her from Glasgow before the end of April.

She’s been vaccinated and my DH will have been by then.
I can’t speak to her on the phone because I’m so angry and frustrated.
I don’t want to return to a cycle of Lockdowns but people need some hope and a proper route out of this now.

So much for our plans to holiday in Scotland, visit family and friends.

I cannot believe the support NS and the SNP have.
I hope people are finally waking up to what a nightmare the Scottish govt is and reflect that in the elections in May.

Bonnieweejeaniemccall · 23/02/2021 16:08

I feel like I've just found somewhere that's full of people with the same mindset as me! How has it taken me this long to find this thread?!

Hello to all! Also scunnered by todays news.

littlbrowndog · 23/02/2021 16:10

Oh ffs.

Fuck sake

Had enough of this.

MaxNormal · 23/02/2021 16:10

@Bonnieweejeaniemccall hello! You'll like the Railing thread too for a good vent.

anon444877 · 23/02/2021 16:11

So down. So the Easter holidays are going to be a rerun of Christmas, and Feb half term, where our kids will have precisely nothing to do except meet ups in fields and/or the play park.

It's certainly back to basics!

ShowmetheSnowdrops · 23/02/2021 16:11

I’m ranting on the both threads today

RaspberryCoulis · 23/02/2021 16:11

But it's not about "save the NHS" any more @StatisticallyChallenged. It's chasing the "zero covid" nonsense.

On the flip slide, retailers in Berwick and Carlisle will be rubbing their hands together as they will be open, selling and earning while everything here is still closed.

MintPI · 23/02/2021 16:12

This is what we'll be moving to IN NINE WEEKS. Bring out the Gin
