I've been reading these threads but not posting as they move so quickly - I just saw on Twitter that Scotland may go back to "tiers"? We have 30/100,000 here so that makes me feel cautiously optimistic. I don't have kids in school so felt that BJ's roadmap means no changes really - who is going to go on a picnic in Scotland in March?

StarryEyeSurprise · 22/02/2021 12:53

Yes, being announced tomorrow. Won't help me but it makes sense!

frasersmummy · 22/02/2021 12:56

Back to tiers will. Mean the central belt in tier 4 till further notice... I want to go back to work, I want my teenager to see his friends and to get a proper education. I want to go for a nice drive, stop and have lunch and drive home.
It's really not too.much to ask now is it

WannaCapybara · 22/02/2021 12:56

Have you never 'enjoyed' an Easter picnic in the snow? @Judystilldreamsofhorses Grin

WannaCapybara · 22/02/2021 13:00

Fife would be a 1 or 2 I think! I reckon we'll all go back into level 4 for a while. 3 at a push maybe.

fluffyugg · 22/02/2021 13:09

The tier system will be quite a while down the road yet she just said so what will happen in the meantime? Guess we'll hear tomorrow.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/02/2021 13:12

@WannaCapybara I can remember doing Easter egg stuff as a child in hats and gloves! I'm NE so it tends to be freezing here most of the year other than one day in July.

I must have missed that @fluffyugg - optimism dashed. I guess she will follow England and THEN go into tiers? Belt and braces? I just want to sit inside a coffee shop with a friend, and get my bloody hair done.

WannaCapybara · 22/02/2021 13:17

Same here. I remember sitting in the park on a picnic blanket as the snow was blowing through...

runningpink · 22/02/2021 13:19

Tiers are a completed waste of time as Nicola just lies about them.
Not lowering areas down a tier when they were well within the criteria and also not allowing us to do what was outlined in the lower tiers. So she can shove them up her arse as far as I’m concerned.

I don’t have any high hopes or expectations for tomorrow.

I want to be able to hug my friend, not wear masks or have to track and trace and there will be no way any of that will be included tomorrow or outlined for anytime soon.
The anticipation of what’s to come next has got my anxiety creeping up again.

WannaCapybara · 22/02/2021 13:23

Sort of @runningpink but I find myself pretty surprised at how high cases were from early October onwards. From my point of view, I think thank god we didn't open up more really. December and January were brutal enough.

I think it's a comms failure as much as anything. If they weren't going to make decisions based on their own framework, they should have given a very robust explanation as to why.

rookiemere · 22/02/2021 13:23

@NotAnActualSheep if it follows the pattern of last time, Scotland will ease ever so gradually until BG funding will run out and then we'll open everything up regardless of the numbers if last time is anything to go by.
When does furlough funding end ? I think it's end of April, which is roughly the point at which vaccinations should be properly making an impact to holiday numbers.
Regarding the schools, I don't think it has been said for sure that they're all out until Easter, or indeed all back after, I've just got that in my head as the most likely scenario for my S3 so any sooner will be a bonus.

AgentCooper · 22/02/2021 13:41

Christ I’d be fine with tier 3. Just want to be able to go swimming again. Been feeling anxious this past week, I think because the lighter nights are just reminding me so much of when lockdown started last year, especially with everything closed. I had the worst year for a long time last year mental health-wise. I lost two stone because I couldn’t keep food down, I was so anxious. I started to find some equilibrium and even happiness when I was able to start working again and swimming again.

Yes, furlough will be a bit of a cliff edge I would have thought. Though there are rumours of that being extended to the summer (currently up til the end of April) to tie with BJs roadmap, so it may be relaxed a bit. I don't think even in England everything will be back by the end of April from what I read (no overnight stays out of the area at the end of March, for example, do I can't see hospitality being back to normal by then...) .

NotAnActualSheep · 22/02/2021 13:50

And, no, no one's said anything about Easter for schools, but they have said "no earlier than 15th March" and that's only 2 and a bit weeks before Easter. So if not everyone goes back on the 15th I can't see the rest being back before the Easter hols!

WouldBeGood · 22/02/2021 13:55

This is just shite

WouldBeGood · 22/02/2021 13:56

I pray for them ending furlough and this will have to stop.

SylviasMotherSaid · 22/02/2021 14:01

Tiers will probably mean we are all stuck in our local authority areas even longer I could scream

NotAnActualSheep · 22/02/2021 14:08

Urgh. I'm not sure, though. I think last time furlough ended (or tapered?) without everything being open in Scotland there were just lots of redundancies, and NS said the equivalent of "its nae ma fault". I don't think that's a sure fire way of getting everything back to normal here, sadly.

Lockdownbear · 22/02/2021 14:13

Remember if England is all opened up come May and Scotland isn't that could well influence the votes

WannaCapybara · 22/02/2021 14:15

I suppose it depends what happen in next week's budget: it looks like furlough will still have to exist in some capacity as clearly WM don't expect all sectors to be back to normal before summer.

Scottishskifun · 22/02/2021 14:22

@NotAnActualSheep yep it was about central belt going into tier 4 and furlough dropping off. UK govt then announced that furlough would be available if any nation went into a lock down or equivalent but its unclear if this agreement is just til April or if its ongoing.
It also seems as if its applied if lock down or equivalent unclear on lower levels if Scotland is stricter.

Wales BTW is saying some non essential by end of March and all primary schools back soon which is interesting given parts of Wales had the highest rates of infection in the UK for a long time period!

Mylittlesandwich · 22/02/2021 14:30

DH lost his job the last time furlough wasn't extended in good time. After the summer. It was eventually extended but his previous employer didn't fancy taking them back on.

runningpink · 22/02/2021 14:43

@WannaCapybara yes I agree if they had actually came back and said look we can’t do xyz for the tiers because of this then I think there would be more understanding. But the no explanation makes me so angry

MrsAmaretto · 22/02/2021 15:01

Teirs are a load of bollocks. Last time we hadn’t had a case in months and she made up Teir 1.5 to restrict us

My kids haven’t stayed overnight at their grandparents since 2018. They will be going in Easter come hell or high water.

WannaCapybara · 22/02/2021 15:12

My kids had one night with their grandparents last June and that's been it since. Parents are both three weeks post-first dose of vaccine so I'm thinking that pretty soon there's isn't much of an argument not to do it.

We ALL need a wee change of scenery!
