@WannaCapybara

Fife would be a 1 or 2 I think! I reckon we'll all go back into level 4 for a while. 3 at a push maybe.
Tier 1 was cases less than 20/100,000 wasn't it?! Fife is on 72 at the moment which is borderline tier 3 from memory god knows what they will actually apply though!

Will probably be the same message of even though numbers are low in some areas we won't be putting anyone into tier 1 other than the remote islands as we need to monitor blah blah blah

Very likely to loose more votes in Aberdeen given the numbers there are below 30/100000! Unless they really outline at what stage things need to be at for businesses then their is going to be a lot of peeved people when rates are dropping off especially in the North East, borders and even Edinburgh!

WannaCapybara · 22/02/2021 15:21

I just went by this www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-54711321 which says level 1 is between 20 and 75 cases per 100k

Scottishskifun · 22/02/2021 15:28

SG never stuck to their own definitions unfortunately as they found a reason for each review not to either the test positive rate instead or stated that numbers weren't staying static enough.
North East Scotland should have been in tier 1 for ages but never got there! Will be the same this time they will use the we are being precautionary excuse.

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/02/2021 15:33

The tiers were a joke - we've created all these criteria but we'll completely bloody ignore them when it comes to implementing it.

My area should currently be tier 2...

@WannaCapybara

My kids had one night with their grandparents last June and that's been it since. Parents are both three weeks post-first dose of vaccine so I'm thinking that pretty soon there's isn't much of an argument not to do it.

We ALL need a wee change of scenery!

This is my argument. All the grandparents have been vaccinated (3 weeks ago +) so as long as we don't see anyone else, why not go and stay overnight with them? They live way up North so a trip without an overnight is out and there's nothing in the way of self catering around so we can't see them unless we stay with them. It's so infuriating when folk talk about being able to meet their mum for a walk in the park, or wave to them though a window! I suppose this is the problem with this. A lot of the 'easing' does suit a lot of people but everyone's situations are difficult. Seeing my parents would be quite a way down the 'roadmap'.
icanboogieboogiewoogie · 22/02/2021 15:47

So much for Boris being cautious.

WannaCapybara · 22/02/2021 15:49

I think the new strain burst the old tier system, no idea what the new version will look like.

Scottishskifun · 22/02/2021 15:56

@icanboogieboogiewoogie

The dates are subject to the 4 criteria being met. Vaccinations today have shown 94% for one of of serious hospitalisation. I hope that Scotland can follow something reasonably in line. Aqll the evidence is that we are now to live with covid so given vaccinations help on people why not get on with living again rather then just surviving day to day?!

We will be booking accommodation in England to visit family as soon as its open in England.

WannaCapybara · 22/02/2021 16:00

Well, we will get back to living but think how many vulnerable people still haven't had even their first dose. It'll just take time, that's all. At least tomorrow we will be able to envision some sort of timeline or plan.

frasersmummy · 22/02/2021 16:05

omg .. Boris is saying all restrictions gone by end of june including social distancing ?! Now the question is will Nicola follow suit or will she doom and gloom and keep us locked up a lot longer than england

WouldBeGood · 22/02/2021 16:06

Come on, Nicola!!!

WouldBeGood · 22/02/2021 16:07

I might even vote for her if she says that 😂

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/02/2021 16:08

It was bust before the new strain, because it was barely followed.

I don't think this is especially uncautious tbh. It's a reopening spread over several months.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 22/02/2021 16:20

I'm just surprised he's talking mass events. Pleased, but surprised.

WouldBeGood · 22/02/2021 16:23

It’s great news.

Lockdownbear · 22/02/2021 16:29

Boris is saying all restrictions gone by end of june including social distancing ?

Really😲, yet all adults won't be vaccinated until end of July plus 3 week lag for the vaccine to work.

But go Boris, I wouldn't have been too surprised to have had an element of SD through the winter into next spring.

But a complete break from it over the summer will be most welcome and might give people the recharge they need to cope with SD it its re introduced for the winter. Until everyone has their second dose.

I was thinking Covid is going to end up like Polio, diphtheria, measles etc vaccine will take care of it, we'll rock up with your baby and wee jag and give it no more thought.

Boris must have gambled millions on all the vaccines he ordered, and would have been crucified if none of them or only a few worked. His gamble has paid off big time.

Unfortunately I think we all know the answer to that one!

A lot of vulnerable people I know in England have been vaccinated already some as early as end of January as their areas got down the lists quickly.

All family with shielding letters and all friends with medium risk have been done.

Absolutely!

I'm in Edinburgh and we never got out of Tier 3 because......it's Edinburgh!!! People will flock there!!!

What was the point in putting us in a tier in first place then because that reason was never going to change no matter what the cases were likeConfused

Lockdownbear · 22/02/2021 16:39

NS might want to try and keep Scotland locked up longer but really I think Scots will stop listening to her.

I'm no Orange supporter but I can imagine the Orange walks happening officially or otherwise, esp if NI follows Englands lead.

WannaCapybara · 22/02/2021 16:46

Genuine question: why do you think she would want to keep restrictions longer?

Lockdownbear · 22/02/2021 16:48

@WannaCapybara

Genuine question: why do you think she would want to keep restrictions longer?
Gawd knows, other than she likes to think Scotland is independent and wants to do stuff differently from England to prove a point.
icanboogieboogiewoogie · 22/02/2021 16:50

Because loads of people died in care homes after the wrong call was made there. Because eat out to help out caused a significant spike. Because she hasn't a clue how to meaningfully reduce the numbers in Glasgow and its surrounding areas?

NotAnActualSheep · 22/02/2021 16:50

Have to say, I wasn't expecting the comments about SD, face coverings and so on going around June too, but that would be amazing if we're at a stage then that that is feasible! I understand the concerns that not everyone will be vaccinated by then, but the vast majority will, including the vulnerable (plus 2nd doses in most cases) and all public facing people so it seems reasonable that those young and healthy remaining willing to take the risk are able to.

RaspberryCoulis · 22/02/2021 16:52

@WannaCapybara

Genuine question: why do you think she would want to keep restrictions longer?
To show how different she is from Boris. It's the game she's played for a year - look at me, we're different, we're caring, we're cautious, not reckless, keeping you SAFE.

Anyway. I have the chance of a day's work in Edinburgh on Thursday. I am so excited about it. It really comes to something when even the prospect of driving to Edinburgh airport for a pre-work covid test on Wednesday is something to look forward to.

WannaCapybara · 22/02/2021 16:52

That's your full and honest take on it?

Not the tiniest thought that she (well, the government overall I guess) might have a different take on the best way to deal with the evidence at hand, or maybe have a genuine desire to go more slowly to keep more people safe?

It's just 100% game-playing and/or spite?

That doesn't make much sense: surely if she wants to expand her support (in pre-election months!) she would try to walk the middle ground and also appease those who feel the easing is too slow.
