Sorry @Scotslassie1 where are you getting that the new version of furlough isn't being applied to Scotland? It's for any U.K. business - if not I've seriously misunderstood the information & misinformed a lot of clients about their eligibility!

IrnBruTortie · 24/10/2020 09:49

Yes. I was Yes the last time, and nothing has changed my mind, merely solidified my decision.

Scotslassie1 · 24/10/2020 10:21

They've said it's UK wide but in reality - for English businesses, the UK Gov will borrow to ensure the funds that are needed for all eligible businesses will be covered.
For Scotland- We were allocated x amount for everything weeks ago and the UK Gov were told that something would be needed to replace furlough but they've said nothing else is coming, won't borrow anymore on our behalf so it's unlikely to be enough to cover what's needed. The UK Gov have essentially made an announcement saying all businesses/ individuals can benefit from the scheme yet won't allow the SG the fiscal powers to provide for it not will they borrow the extra needed on our behalf.

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 24/10/2020 10:25

Sorry I think you've confused the new furlough type scheme with the grants - the new furlough is available to all U.K. businesses & is applied for in the same way as original furlough was (directly from the U.K. gov through HMRC) but the grants are coming out of the money allocated to Scotland & this is limited so the grants here will most likely stop before the grants in England.

Scotslassie1 · 24/10/2020 10:27

OK, I thought the business support grants were to replace furlough?

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 24/10/2020 10:39

No the job support schemes are replacing furlough from 1st November.

There is a grant in Scotland to help employers cover the top up of the current furlough scheme though.

Scotslassie1 · 24/10/2020 10:39

So it's just businesses that will be affected but individuals will continue to get support?

Scotslassie1 · 24/10/2020 10:44

OK got it, thanks

annabelindajane · 25/10/2020 13:29

Luckily We need £100 billion to form our own central bank - can’t be borrowed - and we dont have it so until we do how about showing how well we can run the country- best not look at the Bi Fab business here or education or health or the ferry carry on —
before even thinking about it and no we we will never be Denmark or any Nordic state we are not egalitarian enough as a state .

Scotslassie1 · 25/10/2020 13:47

Unionist bulls*it bingo.
Best performing NHS. The Scottish NHS is used as a benchmark for others. Scotland's population is the most educated in Europe. I could go on.. and no it would be just shy of 77m to set up and then self sustaining just like Portugal, Latvia , Norway, Belgium and every other country who *gasp can succeed on their own.

Trident costs 40 billion to replace. We are liable for 10 per cent. I'm sure we could make everyone in Helensburgh a millionaire post indy and still have saved money/ have enough for a central bank.

Scotslassie1 · 25/10/2020 13:49

Where are you even getting 100 billion from??

DowntonCrabby · 25/10/2020 13:49

I’m massively in support of independence now after voting “no” in 2014.

Bring it on.

Scotslassie1 · 25/10/2020 13:50

*everyone working in Helensburgh/ Faslane. My maths isn't that dodgy. Wink

Messagetoyoucassie · 25/10/2020 13:55

Glesga Girl stuck down Saff due to work and stuff saying " Run like the wind!".
Vote Aye! (and can I come hame 😭)

Merename · 25/10/2020 14:11

Yes, undoubtedly. And scrap trident and defence and spend the money on reducing inequality.

Requinblanc · 25/10/2020 14:17

I want to move to Scotland (I am British but not English) and would love for it to be independent and back in the EU. I despise the Tories and Brexit and I want to live in a decent country...Hope the Scots will still welcome me :)

Scotslassie1 · 25/10/2020 15:43

Of course! Come join us :)

@grumplass

Thank you to everyone who posted on here! It was great to see you and even to have some debate ( although not technically asked for) I'm going to sign off here now and head away for some more relaxing threads 🍁🎃🍂
No debate asked for- honestly who do you think you are starting a thread on a public forum which is not your own website and dictating what can or can't be posted.
Scotslassie1 · 26/10/2020 07:01

Gove has ordered a PR task force to stop people in Scotland wanting independence. They must be worried. Wink

HirplesWithHaggis · 26/10/2020 15:50

Did you see the "think tank" report that said WM should put pressure on the EU to refuse membership to an indy Scotland? Grin Grin Grin

How's it going with Gibraltar and Spain? Falkland Islands and Argentina?

Scotslassie1 · 26/10/2020 18:20

Yes, alongside 'the vow 2 ' to placate us. Angry

honigbutter · 27/10/2020 09:41

Scotland's population is the most educated in Europe.

The ignorance of this statement is frightening.

And that people still believe it means they will believe anything.

TheSandman · 27/10/2020 11:40

And that people still believe it means they will believe anything.

Hmmm... two contradictory statements with no evidence put forward to substantiate either.

Political debate at it's finest.

You smell!
No! You smell!
....I said it first!
No you didn't!

etc.

honigbutter · 27/10/2020 13:05

I wouldn't claim to know about educational standards in every country in Europe but I am familiar with several as well as Scotland.
My statement didn't come out of thin air.
