October lockdown?

Hi
I can’t see another thread on this and I think it’s more Scotland than general CV related.

Any thoughts on this? I’m a teacher and there’s been no word at work but I’m hoping to go away for a week in half term (west coast) and really really hoping lockdown doesn’t happen! Selfish I know, but we need a break!

Anyone got any views on the likelihood?

I can't watch so can someone please come back with the gist?

@WaxOnFeckOff I am listening and still waiting to hear any info. Waffle, waffle, waffle.

ClarencesMum · 06/10/2020 12:25

Not proposing another lockdown like March

Think carefully about non essential travel - we are not about to impose travel restrictions on the whole of the country.

Not shutting down NHS for non Covid

WE ARE NOT PROPOSING TO CLOSE SCHOOLS

ClarencesMum · 06/10/2020 12:26

Are considering additional steps, in addition to household restrictions.

More testing

ClarencesMum · 06/10/2020 12:27

In other words - she has been telt to calm doon!

Friendsoftheearth · 06/10/2020 12:28

NS is on now.

Friendsoftheearth · 06/10/2020 12:28

I believe a circuit breaker of two weeks is being seriously considered.

Chickenandrice · 06/10/2020 12:31

Eh? What was that bit about it being over soon? Do they have good news about vaccine they can’t release yet? Or was it just waffle ?

WeAllHaveWings · 06/10/2020 12:31

Hmm she just said that wasnt being considered

Yes - but she;s a politician who chooses her words carefully. "We're not about to impose travel restrictions on the whole country" could very well mean they're going to do a Wales and impose it on smaller areas. That remains to be seen.

So given than she's spent 15 minutes telling us what she's NOT going to do, that leaves things like non-essential retail, pubs, restaurants and cafes.

So yeah, of course you're free to travel to St Andrews / Troon / Pitlochry for a day out. But don't be thinking you'll be able to buy a cup of tea and a wee scone when you get there. Hmm

wishthiswasreallife · 06/10/2020 12:33

Well I definitely understand everything now 🤷‍♀️

BrazenlyDefying · 06/10/2020 12:33

And given that there is no real definition of what a circuit breaker is, or is not, she will be able to say that what she IS proposing is a circuit breaker, or is not a circuit breaker, and she'll be right either way.

Friendsoftheearth · 06/10/2020 12:33

This morning it was in the papers. She may have had a change of heart, just listening.

celtiethree · 06/10/2020 12:34

Stated that there would not be a whole country lockdown as there is a need to balance action vs. the economy.

Also stated there would not be a full or partial closure of schools.

Perhaps there may be more local travel restrictions. To be honest if they are not closing hospitality and schools are out - what options are available? Restrictions on particular age groups?

Chickenandrice · 06/10/2020 12:35

Doesn’t sound like a huge amount of changes will be made? Did she say if sport venues will stay open?

celtiethree · 06/10/2020 12:37

Nothing on sports venues but as many have just opened and are ‘Covid secure’ I don’t think they will be closed.

rookiemere · 06/10/2020 12:37

Oh well Edinburgh will doubtless be the next in line for some measures over the following days because she decided to let student accommodation open - and I'm not blaming the students at all, I feel desperately sorry for them - but it is vaguely positive that's she's stating that schools aren't closing at least.

WeAllHaveWings · 06/10/2020 12:38

Don't see how you can suggest that is choosing words carefully when she said very clearly that "restrictions on travel may be necessary for hotspot areas".

anon444877 · 06/10/2020 12:40

Doesn't it sound like more local lockdowns being announced? I expect Edinburgh will get hit up tomorrow, so no feeling of optimism here.

Don't believe everything you read in the papers.
Allourboys · 06/10/2020 12:46

So still thinking and considering and none the wiser and no SQA news till tomorrow? I could scream!

soloula · 06/10/2020 12:47

Was Jason saying there about the nighttime hospitality? Suggesting a difference in risk that might suggest different restrictions for pubs v cafes?

WouldBeGood · 06/10/2020 12:51

I am so so stressed by this.

This is exactly what it sounds like
anon444877 · 06/10/2020 12:53

I don't understand the mystery - why not announce the local lockdown(s) today?

Mistressiggi · 06/10/2020 12:57

I can't wait to be perfectly ok to go into the germ factory of my school with very limited SD during a period when I cannot travel to see family or eat out or.. anything basically except work. Going to be a brilliant half-term. (Obviously this is all selfish, but I think it is ok to express how it affects you as an individual)
