October lockdown?

Hi
I can’t see another thread on this and I think it’s more Scotland than general CV related.

Any thoughts on this? I’m a teacher and there’s been no word at work but I’m hoping to go away for a week in half term (west coast) and really really hoping lockdown doesn’t happen! Selfish I know, but we need a break!

Anyone got any views on the likelihood?

If they wanted to keep numbers down, students should have been learning remotely and not at college or university.

If it's applicable to the workforce then it should be the same for college and uni.

There is literally no joy in anyone's life right now.

If it is Friday we are due to leave for our holiday before that and I'm seriously considering just going. We're in self contained accommodation so I don't see why we wouldn't.

WouldBeGood · 06/10/2020 10:11

The laws are set out in statutory instruments Coronavirus Regulations (Scotland) 2020. They are added to as the law changes.

In Aberdeenshire and pissed off. There is no way we need a circuit breaker here. Local lockdowns properly policed would make far more sense. I believe they sent police to Aberdeen from other areas? I'm sure we could lend the central belt some of ours.

Based on our local Facebook, I expect rule breaking here. Definitely if there is a 5 mile limit for exercise etc, we will be breaking that as 5 m gets us nowhere (without a boat).

Some focus on our NHS actually doing something non covid related would be awesome too. I nearly got sectioned in May. No word from my psychiatrist since July. Doesn't look like dd will be getting a 28 to 32 month review (didn't get an 8 month one, got her 13 to 15 month one at 19 months after many chasing phonecalls...) and ds got discharged from the hospital without being seen because he's apparently not serious enough and in their own words, they're cutting waiting lists.

Alittlewornout · 06/10/2020 10:14

Can we just stop the student blame game please. These young people have had an awful year and I think denying them any uni experience would have had a profound effect on them and education in general. The numbers in this age group are decreasing and as a load have had it at uni may actually provide some herd immunity within the community in the later winter months. I remember being 18 and had the time of my life, that's not the experience of young people this year. Let's give them a break.

titsbumfannythelot · 06/10/2020 10:19

I'm absolutely not blaming students. I agree that they have had a shit year, like the rest of us.

There are higher incidences in locations with high student populations though, which is only to be expected given the large numbers of people in small areas.

Thanks - -i'll take a look after any new announcement

@Torvean32

No way am i accepting lockdown again.

Yesterday
758 new case of COVID in Scotland .

580 of those are in 3 health boards, Greater Glasgow and Clyde, NHS Lothian and NHS Lanarkshire.

No positive tests were found in the Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland.

So 76.52 % cases are in 3 health boards

If any special measures need brought in, it's in the West.
Stop sanctioning the rest of us, when our numbers are low.,

There were three positive cases in the Western Isles yesterday. Two from the existing cluster; one unrelated. Much of the Southern Western Isles have voluntarily locked down as a result of the resurgence in cases.

I don't disagree with your broader point, but if you're going to advocate for other people, check the facts.

MumofHunter · 06/10/2020 11:05

Plus there's outbreaks currently in Inverness area and other areas around the Highlands which I know of...

BrazenlyDefying · 06/10/2020 11:32

We have a week booked for next week, south of the Border. We're still going, whatever Saint Sturgeon says.

We've done the big stuff - not seeing parents, working at home, home schooling, missed two holidays already, missed out on so much stuff and she can do one if she thinks we're missing any more. We can assess our own risk. Us decamping our family to another location, where we're not planning to meet up with other people, is zero risk.

She's totally lost any compliance she had from our family. Lots of our friends saying the same. Lunacy.

BlueThursday · 06/10/2020 11:54

I absolutely can’t bear the thought of having to juggle working at home with home schooling again it just about broke me last time.

Poor DD is an only child too so just me and her through it all

Perihelion · 06/10/2020 11:55

I think there may be a closure of hospitality from this weekend for 2 or 3 weeks, to make use of furlough. Maybe Central belt only?

ClarencesMum · 06/10/2020 11:57

This, with bells on.

I was all Team Nic at the start of this but she has gone mad with the power, the lot of them have.

Who knew curtailing people's lives could be so fun!

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/10/2020 11:59

She can't close hospitality south of the border? So unless a legally enforceable travel ban in Scotland then I'm going. Had enough of this shit show.

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/10/2020 11:59

or if the place is shut or won't take us of course.

ClarencesMum · 06/10/2020 12:06

Announcement was expected today, but pushed back to tomorrow. How are they allowed to keep us hanging like this? It is sick.

wishthiswasreallife · 06/10/2020 12:08

Will Nicola be announcing soon?I just need to know what's going on I don't like the will they won't they

BrazenlyDefying · 06/10/2020 12:10

Keep us talking about this and we won't be talking about Salmond, or Murrell, or Covid Maggie....
ClarencesMum · 06/10/2020 12:13

She wants more 'buy in' and people on board before making announcements. Why not take the hint hen?

BrazenlyDefying · 06/10/2020 12:15

It's all a bit "we know something you don't know, nee nar, nee nar".

So much for the "adult conversation" bollocks.

wishthiswasreallife · 06/10/2020 12:15

She's on now

ClarencesMum · 06/10/2020 12:18

She's going to let us know what she is not proposing.

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/10/2020 12:20

Closer to the shut down they announce, the less time for folk to complain prior to the start of it and obviously no time to get a U turn in before it starts, that then gives them the weekend to implement it, shove some high profile fines in to get the message and stir up the fear, beginning of the following week make sure that the figures "might be showing us this is working" i'e, they are already dropping or make less tests available so less positive results, delay stuff a few more days and then you've already had a week - a few more soundbites and "we are all in it together" and look how much difference it's made and then fudge for another weekend with hints of maybe a change the following week, delay that a bit and before you know it a fortnight done, which of course, was exactly the right decision. If it doesn't play out that way, it's a jock publics fault for not doing it right.

Cynic? Moi?

wishthiswasreallife · 06/10/2020 12:20

I have no idea what is going on

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/10/2020 12:20

I can't watch so can someone please come back with the gist?
