October lockdown?

Hi
I can’t see another thread on this and I think it’s more Scotland than general CV related.

Any thoughts on this? I’m a teacher and there’s been no word at work but I’m hoping to go away for a week in half term (west coast) and really really hoping lockdown doesn’t happen! Selfish I know, but we need a break!

Anyone got any views on the likelihood?

I feel the information is far more well controlled than the virus that's for sure!

WouldBeGood · 14/10/2020 14:35

@Rae36 I think you’ll feel much more chilled when you’re actually away. 😊

WouldBeGood · 14/10/2020 14:36

And @WaxOnFeckOff yes, I’m totally sick of the SG and WM blaming us for being naughty, rather than saying they’ve made a huge mess of all this

Arkadia · 14/10/2020 14:49

@TheOneWhoWalksInTheSun, amen to that!!

Arkadia · 14/10/2020 14:53

@IwishIwasyoda, my bet is

  1. very few
  2. all of them Otherwise she would have made a big song and dance about it. Talking about manipulating the media and the audience.
TheOneWhoWalksInTheSun · 14/10/2020 15:04

I really want to hear full evidence of this Blackpool connection now.

It's all very convenient to mention the destination when it could equally be construed that people travelling in close confinement from an area with a fair bit of community transmission took it with them and did a bit of further mixing while they were there.

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 14/10/2020 15:22

More threats today. I can’t stand the daily threats. What’s the face mask change going to be? And the threats about schools. So fed up of it.

runningpink · 14/10/2020 15:32

I also hate the hints or vague bits of information which she throws in. Just tells us there and then fully.

I’m now dreading what the new mask rules could be. I really struggle with the masks, they cause me so much panic.

Anyone any guesses as to what she might impose? I really hope we don’t have to wear them outside.

rookiemere · 14/10/2020 15:38

Good point @😆Th

rookiemere · 14/10/2020 15:39

Oh whoops totally didn't mean to send that. I meant good point @TheOneWhoWalksInTheSun who'd have thunk that letting tour buses operate where people are in confined spaces with no air would lead to transmission of a virus.

NotAnActualSheep · 14/10/2020 15:41

Yes, I agree about the constant changing of emphasis... Its really annoying and does seem manipulative. I'm a bit twitchy about the face covering thing too. I assume it'll be the "official exemption card" that you can download off the SG Webpage like the UK one but with a thistle or something they've been trailing for a while, but I'm not entirely convinced it won't be "masks at all times and in all places in public, and ideally in private too". I think either that, or closing schools again would force me off the sofa and down to holyrood to glue myself to something. And I'm not a glueing kind of person.

WaxOnFeckOff · 14/10/2020 15:45

And I'm not a glueing kind of person.

Now that made me laugh and we really need to laugh.

I has a naughty walk with my 2 friends yesterday evening and it's the best laugh I get all week. I'm not giving it up or wearing a mask to do so.

LizzieMacQueen · 14/10/2020 15:48

She said something like 'wear masks and especially in confined indoor spaces' i can't find the actual words she said but I too thought it was hinting at wearing them outdoors.

Tomorrowisanewday · 14/10/2020 16:02

From the previous comments she made last week, it's to be added to the Regulations they've to be worn in communal spaces, like corridors in workplaces, welfare, etc. - think that may be what is being hinted at,

throwingawaymyshot · 14/10/2020 16:32

As I said in my previous posts, I have multiple disabilities. I can't do these restrictions. It was just about manageable at the start of lockdown as I could just stay in. Now it looks like more restrictions and for longer. I've now made an appt with my GP as I think I need to go back on my ADs now. My anxiety is sky high. My work seem to think 'covid secure' means everyone can be 'covid secure' so get back to work everyone. Even seeing the GP means struggling with masks and social distancing just to see him!

WaxOnFeckOff · 14/10/2020 17:08

That sounds really hard @throwingawaymyshot. I get fed up of people going on and on about masks as if they are a magic cloak and woe betide you if you comment that not everyone can wear one or necessarily wants to go into details of why they cant.

I had abusive experiences as a child which I don't share, DH doesn't know. The person has been jailed for abuse with other people so it is known and is on the alerts they should be. As such I find wearing a mask anxiety inducing but I just either have to get on with it or explain to others why not, which I don't want to do. But I've been told I'm just selfish etc when I've pointed this scenario out on other threads. So, something that happened more than 40 years ago is literally shoved in my face daily.

It takes a lot of mind over matter to tolerate.

I think if your work keep pursuing a return to the office, you might be better getting signed off. Which isn't really any good for anyone. Could you speak to someone in occupational health (if that exists in your work)?

RaraRachael · 14/10/2020 17:16

There was word of coachloads of Old Firm supporters going to Blackpool so they could get pissed and watch the match on Saturday/Sunday.
I wondered if that's what the "Don't travel to Blackpool" advice was about

Scotslassie1 · 14/10/2020 17:21

It was Rara - she said that in the update...

throwingawaymyshot · 14/10/2020 17:26

thank you @WaxOnFeckOff I keep banging on about exemptions and people on here and IRL just kind of roll their eyes.

I have PTSD and anxiety, balance problems, breathing problems, hearing and visual problems. So lots of good reasons not to wear masks etc.

Already used up all my sick leave entitlement in 2019, then furlough when I was due to come back, now they want me back and I don't think I can. I have asked to see OH though but they say that might not happen before I'm due back Hmm. My GP also wrote to them saying I can only work from home. That's being ignored. So I'm messaging my union who are not effing replying. Its stressful as hell.

I got a McD drive thru today with DH and DD and saw a young disabled boy with mobility problems and two hearing aids. His mask was sellotaped to his hearing aids as clearly, like me, he can't wear masks easily with hearing aids. I just thought that is fucking awful that we have to endure this pish. Poor boy.

user1487194234 · 14/10/2020 18:29

TBF Nicola doesn't lool like she has ever had a good night out /fun holiday.

WouldBeGood · 14/10/2020 20:56

I have PTSD too

WouldBeGood · 14/10/2020 20:57

And the whole mask/lockdown triggers itv

Bytheloch · 14/10/2020 22:34

Waves to @WouldBeGood and @BrazenlyDefying as I’m also already away. Perfectly low key, though we did go to a famous visitor attraction today (no, not Blackpool tower🤣) on our route to much further down south - I’d say it was half and half for wearing face masks, mix of all ages around us, but plenty of distancing. No drama, just people- who are able to- enjoying the day. Bliss.

throwingawaymyshot · 15/10/2020 12:22

FFS what's wrong with sitting at your desk like a normal person? She's still got to have her podium Hmm

WaxOnFeckOff · 15/10/2020 12:35

And what's with the "masks in the canteen from Friday" Masks in the corridor" from Monday.

Regardless of anyone's own views on masks, either make it Friday or Monday, why complicate it - what is the fucking reason? She may of course have "explained" this as I wasn't listening, just looking at the headlines.
