October lockdown?

Hi
I can’t see another thread on this and I think it’s more Scotland than general CV related.

Any thoughts on this? I’m a teacher and there’s been no word at work but I’m hoping to go away for a week in half term (west coast) and really really hoping lockdown doesn’t happen! Selfish I know, but we need a break!

Anyone got any views on the likelihood?

@RaraRachael

There was word of coachloads of Old Firm supporters going to Blackpool so they could get pissed and watch the match on Saturday/Sunday. I wondered if that's what the "Don't travel to Blackpool" advice was about
Definitely that.
WaxOnFeckOff · 15/10/2020 12:48

Also sick of the fact that she gives figures for the top four healthboards, yet she has put 5 into significant restrictions, why doesn't she ever mention the Forth Valley? Maybe because the amounts are not large enough to justify the restrictions and they don't even always come 5th on the list. So again, no justification other than trying to stop folk in areas where cases are higher travelling into Forth Valley I presume.

It's all bollocks.

readsalotgirl63 · 15/10/2020 13:39

Im astonished that it's possible to privately hire a coach or that coach trips/tours are allowed . Why ?

TheOneWhoWalksInTheSun · 15/10/2020 16:46

It seems the height of stupid right now.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 15/10/2020 18:30

get fed up of people going on and on about masks as if they are a magic cloak and woe betide you if you comment that not everyone can wear one or necessarily wants to go into details of why they cant.

This. Far too many people of my acquaintance haven't actually washed their masks yet...

I've managed to desensentise enough that I can now run around the supermarket but it's done a huge amount of damage to my mental health (and I still have physical scars from the early attempts). Costco is the easiest because it's such a big space. My rapist suffocated me into submission. That's not something I wish to share with my local community. However yes, selfish, should stay in, don't deserve medical treatment...heard it all. I will not be wearing one outdoors regardless.

Goingdooolally · 15/10/2020 18:32

@Dinosauratemydaffodils no words. Just Flowers trite I know but I hear you. 💗

Just back from my few days in Edinburgh which was ok. Managed to find enough places to do takeaways. The thing that surprised me most was the train. I was expecting to have an allocated seat with a certain amount taped off, but you could just sit anywhere and reservations were not available.

WouldBeGood · 15/10/2020 19:40

@Dinosauratemydaffodils 💕💕

Back from England and had a lovely civilised time 😊

BrazenlyDefying · 16/10/2020 08:43

We are in the covid-ridden northeast of England, where people are dying in the streets with Covid and everyone's walking around in full hazmat suits.

Except they're not. The good people of rural northumberland are very pissed off about being lumped in with newcastle city, as rates there are much higher. There are lots of Scottish people here, we ate out last night at a local sit down fish and chips restaurant and at least two of the other tables were scottish families too.

WouldBeGood · 16/10/2020 09:38

@BrazenlyDefying it’s really nice just getting to eat inside a restaurant. And the pub had background music on! And lots of walkers stopping to warm up in front of a roaring fire, old chaps in there for a pint and a chat. We even heard a group laughing and enjoying themselves over dinner. All obeying the rules. Glad we went! And that you’re having a good time

Goingdooolally · 16/10/2020 09:48

We’ve eaten out throughout and mostly it’s been fine. It’s good for business and good for morale!

PS glad to hear Northumberland was lovely. We’re going up north next week. Hopefully that goes well too! Forecast looking rather damp Confused

Glad to hear that some lovely breaks have been had and there are a few of us heading off next week. We've been told that the bar/restaurant and gym at our place remain closed which is a shame but we'll just take our own supplies and hopefully get a meal or two off site.

rookiemere · 16/10/2020 14:16

We're heading off as soon as DH finishes work and are booked into a pub for dinner - inside !
What I find truly weird is they've just lifted quarantine from Greece, so technically- if we'd held our nerve - we could be heading off there rather than the Lake District. At this point I'm not sure which would be most disapproved of.

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/10/2020 14:24

We don't go until Monday @rookiemere. Hope you enjoy your break. if we cross each other, i'll be the one red faced and peching having barely left the house in months... Grin

weebarra · 16/10/2020 14:28

I'm a bit gutted to hear about Northumberland although pleased people are enjoying themselves!
We'd booked near seahouses with my folks but they decided to cancel which is fair enough. The house was too expensive for us on our own, so it's day trips only next week. I'm glad to have a week off though!

Justmuddlingalong · 16/10/2020 14:31

We just got back from a few nights in the Scottish Highlands. It was a lovely change to the recent never changing routine. I would recommend anyone heading off to book restaurants at least the day in advance because lots were closed completely and what with many of the others closing at 6pm, there was more demand than supply.

That’s a good tip thanks! We have booked one (remote) place for lunch but we may book somewhere else too. Problem is it’s quite nice not to be too planned on holiday!

That's our issue @Goingdooolally. Obviously when you go abroad (to warm countries) in the summer you just go with the flow but you could easily plan in advance because you know what it will be like.

We don't want to have to head back to our accommodation before eating out (as it's about 20 mins/half an hour drive from most places) but have no idea what days might be wet (probably all of them) and don't want to be heading for dinner, damp and miserable.

We'd like to book a nice lunch and a dinner on different days, but which days to book is a mystery.

Justmuddlingalong · 16/10/2020 17:13

We booked the 1st night's restaurant before we'd left home. The 2nd restaurant we booked the day before and the 3rd night we decided to go with the flow. We could only find one restaurant, but had to eat outside (the bonus being we could enjoy an alcoholic drink or 3 with our food). And the very limited menus were cold cheese, meat or seafood platters. After hoovering it up we stopped off at Tesco for some supper supplies. Another thing, if you want to do any touristy visits or activities, pre-book those online too as numbers were really restricted. We normally don't like to be too organised or set in what we do, but unfortunately this time we had to be. Was still lovely to be away though.

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/10/2020 19:20

We can't get in until 5 so we'll eat in the first night. The place we really want to go doesn't open on Tuesdays so we'd thought about there for Wednesday lunch and then eat in the on-site place on Thursday night. But as that is shut, now thinking Lunch out on Tuesday and wed night at place we want to go to. and eat in on Thursday.

Goingdooolally · 16/10/2020 21:55

I think we’re going to eat out during the day and eat in at night. We’ve got a few meals to take with us.

We're just back from a week in North Yorkshire. Was !ovely, we are out a few times and just booked the table in the morning of the day we wanted to eat. Everywhere Was very organised and felt safe, though Whitby was still very busy!
We did a lot of cast!es,Abbey etc as we get in free with our historic Scotland membership. Again just booked in the morning of the day we were going.
I'm really glad we went and thanks for the encouragement from posters on here!

Puddington · 18/10/2020 23:44

I'm hearing rumours she is thinking of introducing a travel ban similar to Wales. As someone in an LDR (Scotland/other part of UK) who hasn't seen my partner in quite a long time and was planning to in just over a week's time (we are planning to move in together permanently next year though) this absolutely terrifies me Sad
