October lockdown?

Hi
I can’t see another thread on this and I think it’s more Scotland than general CV related.

Any thoughts on this? I’m a teacher and there’s been no word at work but I’m hoping to go away for a week in half term (west coast) and really really hoping lockdown doesn’t happen! Selfish I know, but we need a break!

Anyone got any views on the likelihood?

I think they'll lock down Glasgow and its surrounds. One of the issues here is that they can't see the effects of the previous restrictions because the students all arrived and started testing positive. But Glasgow numbers certainly aren't looking good.

PseudoSudocrem · 06/10/2020 21:07

I wouldn't assume that a cat and a monkey would do a worse job tbh.

titsbumfannythelot · 06/10/2020 21:07

@Lidlfix

If DH really wants to creep me out he does his George Galloway "Do you want me to be the cat?" impression. Boak Envy
🤢🤢🤢🤢

That'd give me the dry boak

Do you think we’ll be told to stay at home? Travel restrictions?

What about pubs and restaurants?

waitforitwaitforit · 06/10/2020 21:24

I think they'll shut pubs and restaurants and restrict travel. They've still a wee bit flexibility re closing hospitality as furlough's not ended yet but it will soon.

I hope I'm wrong but she's been threatening something major and has ruled out a full lockdown.

Chickenandrice · 06/10/2020 21:28

The way they have been threatening something major but have ruled out so much is a bit odd I think.

Matilda2013 · 06/10/2020 21:31

I'm betting on pubs shutting. No idea what else they can do that isn't schools, travel limits etc

PseudoSudocrem · 06/10/2020 21:33

Will they shut shops do we think?

Chickenandrice · 06/10/2020 21:36

I don’t think they will shut shops. They are no high risk as you don’t mix closely with others in shops

WouldBeGood · 06/10/2020 21:40

Pubs and restaurants aren’t either 🤷🏻‍♀️

ClarencesMum · 06/10/2020 21:42

It does seem.odd at face value but take nothing that is happening right now at face value. They are dripping in ideas, testing the water and monitoring reaction. We make it wast for them.in a way with social media and comments, forums and the like. They have realised there is little support and have to go back to the drawing board. It's political. It has been for a long time.

It is and it isn't. There's no point in putting restrictions in place that no one will follow. That's less effective than putting nothing in place at all. So they have to try to set them at a level that people deem reasonable, as then they're more likely to keep to them.

Matilda2013 · 06/10/2020 21:58

I think pubs especially in Glasgow around the old firm will be a worry for them! But will closing them drive people into other peoples houses? Certainly didn't stop some people in the initial lockdown.

Of course it will. As people are buying carry outs and heading to someone's house for a party with the pubs close at ten. God knows who came up with that idea.

Worth a watch, he has some longer things on YouTube that are worth a watch but this sums up the current situation pretty well.

WouldBeGood · 07/10/2020 10:14

Does anyone knew when we are to be told our fate?

Matilda2013 · 07/10/2020 10:18

Today around 2.50pm

MadameBlobby · 07/10/2020 10:20

If people can’t see people in pubs or restaurants they’ll just start going to people’s houses. If she thinks people are going to just sit outside or not socialise at all she’s completely deluded.

MadameBlobby · 07/10/2020 10:29

They need to target restrictions more than whole health board areas. I looked up where I live on the link someone posted yesterday. We are Greater Glasgow and Clyde but we have 30 to 49 cases per 100000 here, given the population that’s a handful. Madness that we’d get the same restrictions as Glasgow city, where Sturgeon’s constituency is and where a lot of citizens have been failing to comply with restrictions all along

Lazt · 07/10/2020 10:33

They (SG) haven’t kept their end of the bargain whilst we locked down for months so I’m not inclined to pay much mind to whatever they say today.

They’ve had over 6 months to get testing & tracing sorted. And all over the summer people flew in and out with no stringent quarantining making a total mockery of it all. And not only that, what is the fucking endgame?!

So fed up and I don’t know anyone who doesn’t this is an utter shit show.

MadameBlobby · 07/10/2020 10:37

It’s going to be masks everywhere now, I feel it in my bones. She’s changed her language to saying wear them when out and about.

Why do no journalists actually ask her what the data is that they are helping given cases have done nothing but go up since we had to wear them? What are the chances it’s spread in a supermarket?

Justmuddlingalong · 07/10/2020 10:45

If the Lidl near me is anything to go by, quite high I'd imagine.

WouldBeGood · 07/10/2020 11:13

Thanks @MadameBlobby

And I too agree with you @Lazt

Hotelhelp · 07/10/2020 11:29

I’m dreading this today.

For the people who are saying they won’t stick to new restrictions. I’m not in any way being confrontational when I ask this but would you be happy to do your own thing knowing you could unknowingly pass it on to someone who could get really ill? I’m not scared of getting Coronavirus at all but I am scared of passing it on to someone who could be worse affected. And surely it won’t always be the people we’d suspect might be hit hardest.

My mum keeps saying things like why shouldn’t we share a car when we could go for dinner together and while I do understand it doesn’t make much sense I still feel I want to follow the rules and just do my bit.
