October lockdown?

Hi
I can’t see another thread on this and I think it’s more Scotland than general CV related.

Any thoughts on this? I’m a teacher and there’s been no word at work but I’m hoping to go away for a week in half term (west coast) and really really hoping lockdown doesn’t happen! Selfish I know, but we need a break!

Anyone got any views on the likelihood?

I know Brazenly and I have family and friends and colleagues in Glasgow and surrounds who have been doing what they are supposed to, it's just that the policy seems to have changed from local to locking down the whole country and seems to be back to local again, but they will need to justify the "local" I think as people aren't going to take being locked down or restricted if their area isn't affected anymore.

WouldBeGood · 06/10/2020 18:40

My broadband is shite and I’m in the central belt!

Dinnafashyersel · 06/10/2020 18:49

Yep. I am in Greater Glasgow area and Openreach haven't got to us yet with Full fibre. In fact it is very hit and miss atm as they are constantly mucking about to get everyone updated. Test this morning below 1MB.

Also, great link , i was looking for that yesterday - that's me occupied for the evening, who doesn't love an interactive map? :o

Re the broadband I'm in fairly rural Aberdeenshire but have better broadband than a colleague who lives in the centre of the city but even so we struggled a bit when dd was here and she dh and I were all trying to work.

I am just so scunnered today. I honestly had a lot of sympathy for and belief in Sturgeon at the start but not now, not for ages. It’s all point scoring - lock down harder than Boris, be harsher on the students, the whole shebang. I think the scales fell from my eyes when Jacinda Ardern did a wee 60 second video listing her achievements as PM and Sturgeon did a response with her own achievements about a day later. She just desperately wants us to be New Zealand and win at Covid, anything to be better than England.

My theory is that they have started to come to their senses and genuinely want a change of tack and are trying to gauge which choice will lose or win most votes. Let's be straight here, at this point that is really the only important thing. the pandemic is over.

However, they've done such a good job of scaring folk, it's not going to be so easy to ease restrictions whilst still allowing them to be scared or getting them to change their mind. But how many are sitting on each side, and who do they vote for? That's the question.

The thing where we've to put ideas and votes will give them a snapshot of what the current mindset is to allow them to try to choose the least damaging for them politically and the ability to once again blame the public for anything going awry as we voted for it right? Except we are paying them to make good choices...

Say Rhe Margaret Fairlie situation ends up a by-election; I wonder how the logistics of that would work.

Would there be campaigning, canvassing etc how would polling itself work?

BlueThursday · 06/10/2020 19:40

Apologies for my SPAG there I’m trying to shovel Bolognese in my mouth after the gym! (Whole it’s still open !)

RosemaryTelephoneOperator · 06/10/2020 19:43

Agree with you WaxOnFeckOff. Today was about testing the water. They've obviously listened to the focus groups. Nothing came out of today's announcement of 'what we won't do' except a bit of deflection.

Nothing to stop leafleting and maybe everyone has to have a postal vote?

Oh, god! Please don’t let the gym shut 😭

@MumofHunter

Lothian, Forth Valley, Glasgow and Lanarkshire were on the BBC News website this afternoon re main areas for outbreaks. Guessing travel restrictions will tie into these areas.
'Lothian' is also a really big area, I'd prefer it if they drilled it down a bit further.

I expect people in Lanarkshire feel the same.

RosemaryTelephoneOperator · 06/10/2020 19:54

BlueThursday They'd just have a polling station with social distancing. I hear George Galloway is ready to throw his hat in the ring.

BlueThursday · 06/10/2020 20:03

Galloway?! That gobshite Angry

titsbumfannythelot · 06/10/2020 20:05

He'd be better in Holyrood, probably the only one to ask any sort of searching/ challenging questions.

But he is a gobshite and a half

BlueThursday · 06/10/2020 20:06

In some ways I’d maybe enjoy the ruckus he’d cause

titsbumfannythelot · 06/10/2020 20:09

Me too, if I could get the cat imagery out of my head

BlueThursday · 06/10/2020 20:14

The cat, the leotard, the arse licking of Hussain.
Many precious moments

RosemaryTelephoneOperator · 06/10/2020 20:18

He's a prick, but an articulate prick. I'd enjoy watching him debate amongst the complete amateurs of Holyrood.

PseudoSudocrem · 06/10/2020 20:50

I don't agree with a lot of Galloways politics /opinions, but he is an intelligent and erudite man*. Bring it on.

*Also his own biggest fan.

Lidlfix · 06/10/2020 20:55

If DH really wants to creep me out he does his George Galloway "Do you want me to be the cat?" impression. Boak Envy

WouldBeGood · 06/10/2020 20:57

Right.. bets on what they’re going to do?

(I’m trying not to think about the Cat 😂)

throwingawaymyshot · 06/10/2020 20:57

Galloway and even Sheridan are better than many of the politicians we have to deal with the now!

The Cat and the Hairy Monkey

The imagery!

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/10/2020 21:04

Yes, let's actually forget about party politics and fill Holyrood with "characters" chuck them all together and let the games begin! I'd love that.
