Hi everyone, I'm in recovery, but don't post much under this name anymore.

Have loved reading this thread.

Pmsl at AA being like a cult- the ones who say that are either people who have never been, or those still not facing up to their problems. AA isn't perfect, and it isn't for everyone, but active alcoholics will blame anyone or anything other than themselves to avoid looking at their drinking...I did that.

Will now read rest of this thread .

It's good to see the support here.

OOh Wasindie, thinking of you today. And isn't it wonderful that you are facing the day with a clear head.

We went out for dinner yesterday evening with dd2. It was fine weather when we went so I didn't even have a coat with me, but by the time we left the restaurant it was absoloutely pouring. We walked home in the rain and arrived back soaked to the skin and giggling. It was so good to be sober. I can't believe how much I really enjoyed myself. I am very pleased about that because on Friday we are going out to a wonderful restuarant for lunch. I know we are not supposed to project but I was a little anxious about how much I would enjoy it if I was sitting with a glass of water, but now I feel OK about it and i am just looking forward to the lovely food and to the excellent company of dp and SIL.

And the other great news is that dd1's boyfriend has got a job, a proper one. He graduated last year and has only had part-time shop work. It is so nice to share their good news and to FEEL so much, without it being through the filter of a bottle of wine.

Have a good day everyone, and especially indie and dp.

Hi guys, the new thread is called 'Old Bags No More - The Brave Babes & the Battle with the Booze'. I have NO idea how to do a link so I am hoping that you will find it! (I will try to get advice on how to do a link but you should be able to track it down quite quickly!)

morning everyone

been looking for advice/support arond giving up alcohol, and this thread looks good, some posters have similar stories to mine. i have drank since early teens and function very well. but it's a constant source of anxiety and my partner is unhappy with it. and i want to stop, just havent managed it, yet. it's a war.

i come from a heavy drinking but functioning [mostly) family. and drink is everywhere in our society, isnt it? ive been reading allan carr's book as his smoking one helped me stop smoking [after 30 years]. also beauchamp colclough's, both of which i find useful but probably now need some human interaction. so here i am.
