Partner doesn’t believe I was raped

I’m in a state of disbelief so forgive any mistakes please. I need to know how to understand what has just happened or gain any insight into any of my own wrongdoing.

Partner was cross at me this morning because we made plans which I still wanted to go ahead with but he’s a bit hungover and reluctant. That’s the context. We were bickering.
The subject came up that I needed him to come with me to the shops (as planned yesterday), hinting that I’m some kind of dependent on him (I’m not). This descended into nastiness related to me being a sponge (I’m not). I made the point that if I were a goldigger or a sponge, I would’ve set my sights on a rich man. He then said I couldn’t do any better than him and why don’t I try (insert Rapist’s name here), which absolutely floored me. Why bring it up? It didn’t make sense in the context of the argument as he is unemployed.
I asked why my partner had brought up such a subject and he said ‘we both know it never happened anyway’. I’m sick to my stomach. I was then told that I loved every minute, that if it were true I’d have gone to the police and that if I wanted to I could’ve stopped it and shouldn’t have been at the rapist’s house in the first place. I said everything he just told me is the reason I didn’t want to go to the police.
I told him I would have no reason to have ever made this up and confided it was anal rape. I’ve been with my partner for 10 years and he knows I’m not into it. I thought he would think twice, but he doubled down and said that back in the day, his friend had told everyone in the pub that I’d had anal sex with him and that he was going round high fiving everyone about it. I didn’t even know this! And it’s not even true.
Why is my partner doing this? he has never forgiven me for having a short relationship with a friend of his, prior to meeting him. Tells me I’m a slag because of it. He called me a slag in the above exchange about the rape, as a reason for not believing me. I asked him how he could be with someone who he thinks would lie about something like this and he said he doesn’t know and is ‘rethinking everything’. I walked out of the coffee shop in disgust and am now dreading him coming home. What the fuck am I meant to do with all this information he’s given me about myself? I didn’t realise he was sitting on all these horrible thoughts.

He hit you as low as he could. What a vicious mind he has. You can’t forgive this. Pack his bags and thank God that he isn’t able to take half your house and savings.

Rarely does a post make my jaw drop but your did op. You need to leave. Im so sooy this happened to you 💐

I’m really not, though, I just wanted to stick to the plans we had made yesterday because we agreed we were going to go and get some things and have a nice time.
I usually do the shopping by myself and have nothing against doing so. I’m very independent and he was trying to make me sound like I’m not. The whole thing was absurd

That's part of his abuse...to make you confused and doubting yourself.

Speak to women's aid. It's also possible to repirt historic abuse, if you felt you wanted to, but they can support you with that process.

Sending a hug 🫂

It’s my house, he moved in with me and my older kids, we also have an 8 year old together. People would think the relationship ending has come out of nowhere and I’ll be the bad guy, of course. Everyone likes him.

It doesn't matter what people think. It's good that it's your house.

Tbh it sounds as if he's just looking for you to end things. Nobody is that nasty just to get out of doing something because they're hungover.

Send him a message. Tell him not to come back today because you're going to o have a think about things. Call a friend or family IRL to come sit with you.

You cant be with this person anymore. Some words can't be taken back.

amigoingmadd · Yesterday 13:10

His mum has met him for a coffee. I’ve told him to speak to her about moving in with her as I could never move past this. He said I’m making it into a big deal and he’ll be home I soon. He doesn’t care at all

OP posts:

Why are you with this arse? Dump him!!??

Rainingasusual · Yesterday 13:11

Leave. There's no coming back from that. He is using an extremely painful and violating thing that happened to you to hurt and traumatise you now. Common abuse tactic.

Blueuggboots · Yesterday 13:12

Who owns the house? I’d be throwing his belongings in a bag and locking the door if it was my house.
tell him he’s dumped.

Say no. Say he won’t be let in. Say it’s over. Why does what he says matter more than what you say? He doesn’t unilaterally get to decide if you stay together.

Pudmyboy · Yesterday 13:12

I know it's not the main point of the thread, but have you had any support over the rape? If not is it something you want to consider? Doesn't matter how long ago it was, support is still there.
If so, try RSVP and Women's Aid.
Good luck, and get this horrible man, with his disgusting mates, out of your life forever, asap.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · Yesterday 13:12

What. A. Bastard.

I'm speechless. He calls you names just because he doesn't want to do something he agreed to and then he has the gall to bring your past up - as though it's just something to hit you over the head with rather than a truly traumatic event.

I agree with everyone else. It doesn't matter how lovely everyone else thinks he is - deep down he is an utter bastard, and you need to get him out. I suspect that as soon as you tell him so and stand up to him, his true nature will come out very firmly.

Pashazade · Yesterday 13:14

Make it clear you will call the police to have him removed if he comes home. He is obviously minimising and doesn’t care about what’s he’s done and certainly doesn’t care about your feelings. Stay strong and keep
him out.

Wow. You are making it into a big deal because it is a big deal: it couldn't get much bigger!
Lock the doors!

Elfie23 · Yesterday 13:15

I’d be packing his stuff up while he’s out and leave it on the doorstep for him.
Text his mum and tell her he’ll be coming back to hers due to his disgusting behaviour. Don’t let him back in and get the locks changed as soon as you can

Pashazade · Yesterday 13:15

Oh and if the kids ask. Say Daddy has made it clear he doesn’t love me anymore so he will be living somewhere else. Just brief and to the point.

BaffledAndBemusedToo · Yesterday 13:17

I don’t know how I’d carry on with this relationship either but I’m in a state of shock right now. It seems like he actually hates me and wants to hurt me as much as possible but I don’t know why

It doesn’t matter why. Nothing justifies that behaviour and you shouldn’t be trying to explain it away. You deserve better. Men who behave like that are a lost cause.

Itsseweasy · Yesterday 13:18

OP he has let the mask drop. This is how he really feels. Please don’t let him minimise it and go back to playing happy families. I bet if you really think about it this won’t be the first red flag you’ve seen.

QueenofHebdenBridge · Yesterday 13:18

Can you get back to your house before him? There’s no coming back from the horrific things he’s said, and you owe him nothing now. Don’t make life easy for him, even for 24 hours. Lock him out and take it from there. He probably won’t like it but that’s not your problem.

I believe you too, sending you strength. You can do this!

ithinkilikethislittlelife · Yesterday 13:18

I would repeat matter of fact to him when he says to you it’s no big deal that you were raped. He called you a liar. And that is the biggest deal that there is. He has shown you who he is. He’s a horrible horrible person and it’s incredible that he kept this side of him hidden for so long. Do not give a single shit about what others think. As the saying goes nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors. People probably dislike him anyway. I hope you are ok. I know it happened a long time ago but it may be worth speaking to the police about it if you feel able. You will be surprised. They are generally understanding and supportive. It’s their job.

The fact you are thinking like that suggests he's already done a number on you.

It doesn't matter why. Most men are mysoginists. My Mr nice guy ex would say almost anything to 'win' an argument. When we split I assumed he'd take all the mutual friends with him, as I am a spiky person anyway. But no. We believe you and others will too.

Imisscoffee2021 · Yesterday 13:19

Who needs enemies if your partner is like that op?? Leave the vile man, as fast as you can. Don't engage with him or justify yourself any further.

Tell him that it’s not his choice who you go out with or who lives in your house. Thank goodness it’s yours! Change the locks now.

I would text his mum as well.

Pumpkinsaregrowingnicely · Yesterday 13:21

I'd be explaining to his dm why you have ended the relationship .
When I threw dh out his db rang me full of hell. Until he knew the reasons why.

MeandT · Yesterday 13:21

Flowers this isn't one to get over.

What a horrible human being.

You deserve better.

Move on and up.
