If you have your children full time and started dating again at what point did you feel comfortable having them over when your kids are in bed? Im thinking around 6 months?

I'm aware
I date as a single mum
I don't bring men I barely know into my home when my children are here though

Then you are lucky to have people that will babysit or the father is involved

Yes I agree. It clearly does depend on the age of the children. Are they old enough to stand up for themselves or be left for a bit?

I reckon in a cot because the Op is adamant absolutely Adament they wouldn’t wake you

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 20/09/2026 16:20

Why do desperate for a man?

No one is saying you can't date, just that it's unwise to invite them into your children's home when you've been with them two minutes?

Just imagine for a second that the worst happened. How would you live with yourself ?

StarClouds · 20/09/2026 16:21

Surprisinglynice · 20/09/2026 16:19

Yes, yes you do

Im not asking how to make friends, I have friends, my post isnt about finding friends. Who looks for friends to babysit their kids ffs most people would spot the CF from a mile off 😂

Lots of
parents have partners stay over when kids are asleep if they didn’t many lone parents wouldnt be able to date again and most do.

I’m a dating lone parent but would never have my partner of a year stay over when my kids are in bed. He comes over when they’re in bed but always leaves so he is never there when they’re awake. He also has not met them.

Surprisinglynice · 20/09/2026 16:22

StarClouds · 20/09/2026 16:21

6 months isnt two minutes

But you’ll have hardly met him

how many have you actually got together with this man?

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 20/09/2026 16:22

@StarCloudsits not long!!!

Yes thats what I meant, maybe thats why im getting such hostile responses, he would be gone before they woke otherwise defeats the purpose of coming over when they are in bed so that would be the same thing here

Surprisinglynice · 20/09/2026 16:25

This isn’t a normal 6 month relationship is it?? You’ll have barely met him, correct?

The problem with this entire thread has been that on the YABU side we have had sensible reasons why other parents wouldn’t do it. But on the Yanbu side, not a single response has included any rational argument why you should do it. Just completely ridiculous exaggerations that not one single person on the YABU side has said. Pointless. If you have a reason why it’s a great idea, say that rather than complete drivel about nuns and never ever ever having a single bit of fun or family unit or life ever ever again.

Because it isn't a thing that anyone should do as in, it would be weird to say that single parents should introduce anyone they meet at any certain point. I think what most of us are saying is that if one believes it is the right time and we have no reason to believe they lack insight or capacity in any way, then their call on the right time is probably just fine.

You would have to know an awful lot about the people and situation to categorically say that they should do it right now, or shouldn't do it yet.

It's not luck, it's from building a life for myself - friends and family - outside of men.

There is a risk to your children and you are aware of this because you're avoiding answering any questions related to this. You've decided it's a risk worth taking. Most people are disagreeing.

I have friends and family they don’t babysit, simple. The fact you can’t understand not everyone has friends or family able to offer babysitting is insane so not going to acknowledge anything future. try opening your mind!

Exactly!

Build a friendship group, people who care about you but no sex involved. Nothing better than having a good girlfriend over whilst the kids are in bed for some nice food and a bottle of wine

but that seems very alien to you @StarClouds

Do you work?

Surprisinglynice · 20/09/2026 16:29

Can you honestly tell us how many times you have been with this person actually In person @StarClouds ? If you are being honest

This is such a strange comment. Are you asexual and/or aromantic?

That's not a difficult thing to understand.
Your decision to put your children at risk is though.
Good luck to them!

seriously? Suggesting that the Op build a friendship group before maybe finding a man with all the complexities that involve when you have children?

Surprisinglynice · 20/09/2026 16:32

I’ll you ever answer how many times you have met this person in person???
