If you have your children full time and started dating again at what point did you feel comfortable having them over when your kids are in bed? Im thinking around 6 months?

Why? Plenty of people dont want to offer regular babysitting, if I expected my family or friends to have my children you’d call me a cheeky fucker and tell me I chose to have them lol

“Expected” cheeky?

Them offering, knowing you are very lonely and no other options? Yes
You asking and making clear absolutely zero pressure? Not cheeky

Surprisinglynice · 20/09/2026 16:09

For you to be SO sure your kids would never ever get out of bed - they can only be in a cot OR you drug them.

How many people do you personally know who have been unsafe because their parent introduced them to a partner before the mumsnet state sanctioned appropriate timescale?
it’s exhausting and pretty patronising . We are perfectly capable of deciding when we introduce our children to partners. Do you live all your life in such fear?

I've been a lone parent. I get the challenges.

Ultimately it comes down to "is my child's safety more or less important than my boyfriend staying over in the first 6-12m of knowing him?"

Predatory men can be very convincing. Many will target single mothers, especially those clearly desperate for a partner that they're willing to
take risks.

I waited two years and have no regrets. Chances are it won't happen but if there's a chance it might, why take that chance?

Rubbish, most grandparents enjoy having their grandchildren for stays. I know we do.

They don’t babysit, it’s as simple as that. Plenty of family won’t babysit, you don’t know everyone’s circumstances.

There are plenty of threads on mumsnet from people whose parents won’t babysit

I have family and friends but what makes you think they are up for babysitting my kids?

This is just a world away from the world I live in. With my circle of friends and family, we help each other out all of the time. I’d say on a weekly basis I’d be picking up a friends kid from a sports practice, or dropping my two over so that I could go on a date or whatever.

StarClouds · 20/09/2026 16:13

In fact there was literally one two days ago, if you enjoy babysitting thats good but not all grandparents do or can babysit, elderly grandparents/ health issues etc so not sure what you mean by “rubbish”

Most women put their children first, as you can see by the majority of replies. Some women put men they barely know first.

Your defensiveness - and asking in the first place - shows you know it's not right but I expect you'll do it anyway.

It's really sad that you feel the only way to not be alone is to be in a relationship but this does explain the decision you're making.

Thats lovely for you but if someone had that option they would use it and since you do you have no idea what it’s like to not have people that will babysit so don’t bother comment I won’t respond to you anymore.

stay alone forever

😂😂😂 yes that’s the alternative to not having a bloke over who you barely know to stay the night with your kids in the house.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 20/09/2026 16:16

Sure single mums date but the responsible ones keep men they barely know away from their innocent children!

I'm aware
I date as a single mum
I don't bring men I barely know into my home when my children are here though

Yes I agree. It clearly does depend on the age of the children. Are they old enough to stand up for themselves or be left for a bit?
