So I have been with my boyfriend for 10 months. We had a split during 8 months , had a month apart. Then slowly started speaking again.
He was very adamant that he was different and had done a lot of work to change his behaviour. It was slow at the start , I took it very slowly , he said how committed he was to this relationship and how sorry he was that it took to get to rock bottom to realise how much he loved me. Anyway , we were taking it slow and he was different for a few good weeks. Very different , until I invited him to my place , now he hadn’t seen my place because I wanted to be very solid and comfortable before showing my home. I finally did after his pressure about my own place, he came round over the weekend , my flat is very minimal , classy , well put together.
I had said to him there are my father’s clothes here as my father is a hoarder and I was helping him get rid of his clothes. Now I’m also in between homes as I care for my father , so there wasn’t as much personal belongings at my place when he visited it, he was fine on Friday and Saturday we had a lovely weekend. Sunday we had a little argument and he unleashed that I don’t live in that home , there’s men’s clothes , I’m not being honest , he wanted me to show him my clothes in order to prove I am living there. Many accusations were being thrown at me, I naturally defended myself , then I was called defensive and hiding something.
it was all apparently my fault. I didn’t speak to him the next day , then I had a text saying my radio silence spoke volumes. He ended our relationship, even though he swore he wouldn’t walk away and how if this relationship ends it would have to be my decision.
Our relationship ended before because , well he did things like this a lot. He didn’t trust me and well I gave him a second chance.
I guess I’m saying this and asking for just some help that I’m not nuts but totally devastated that he’s reverted back to his old self and not much change really has occurred.

He blocked me first and unfriended me on Facebook , so I blocked back.
I don’t think he will reach out to be honest as his ego and fear of rejection is too high

I wouldn't be surprised if he did. I hope he doesn't

This. OP, please read this again and again. The pennies have started to drop but the gaslighting and coercive control he is using as his MO, plus any love bombing and pleading, is a recipe for a future where you are fearful, treading on eggshells and ultimately a shadow of who you used to be. Be strong.

I am really trying to be , I’m quite empty at the moment. Heartbroken not at that he’s gone , just that I allowed him to do it again and I did want it to work

This was a message from him a month ago , when we both decided to try again.

Darling that is obviously the hardest, most painful question, and you deserve my heartfelt answer.
The truth is, I was blind, selfish, and fighting my own internal mess ( from outside pressures) and I let that overflow onto you. I took you and your love for granted. It is my greatest regret that it took reaching rock bottom, losing you and seeing the total destruction of what we had, for me to wake up, look in the mirror, and face the man I was being. You should never have had to suffer for me to grow up and get my life right.
I can’t change that terrible reality, as much as I wish I could turn the clock back. All I can do now is carry that harsh lesson with me every day ( which I do) and ensure I never return to that person, and prove to you that the man standing here today is real, permanent, and dedicated to earning back your peace.

What is this rubbish?? Sorry OP he’s a complete loon with all sorts of paranoid ideas and sends you stupid AI bilge texts. You are well rid of this clown, he would send you round the twist if you pit up with him for much longer.

That is clearly AI. AI loves an oxford comma. And it also loves lists of 3.

if he was such a terrible bastard 90% of the time , this would be much easier but he was very good at making me feel so loved and that he wanted to change and he did change for a short time
this is textbook abusive behaviour.

Well, that was obviously AI generated bullshit. Pretty talk is easy. Walking the talk is hard, and your ex tripped himself up very fast.

I mean, he ended the relationship countless times and then had a period of saying how much you miss me and realised what a mistake he made

I had a similar experience recently. Cycles of being accused of things like cheating, being interested in other men etc Then he'd say sorry and I'd forgive him. After I broke up with him for the final time, he got obsessive and his behaviours started to escalate. He has basically stalked me. End things now and block him on everything. He won't change believe me. It is controlling and abusive. Women need to stop putting up with this behaviour!

Red flag? Whose flat would you assume she had brought you to? Her boyfriend’s, where she doesn’t herself live? It would take some kind of brass neck to take a boyfriend of 10 months’ standing to the house of your other boyfriend, no?

What a bizarre response.

I would assume the flat belongs to the person whose possessions it contains.
In this case OPs elderly relative.

Must have lived a sheltered life to find it bizarre.

If that were really the case, the sensible question would be “Is this your dad’s flat that you’re staying in?” Not to freak out and claim she’s not living there, demanding proof etc.

The OP has said her flat is minimal, well-put-together and classy, not really giving elderly overweight hoarder vibes. Some people just look for reasons to be paranoid.

My flat is very minimal , let me also say the furniture was very feminine not like a man’s at all.
I have a heart shaped mirror, a table that had flowered prints on it, a chair that was embroidered with flowers , a white brass bed that was so feminine, had my perfumes , shampoo , all my toiletries, my clothes were actually there but not all of them yet ! Been living there for 2 months and in between spaces and yes I believe a normal question and curiosity rather than demanding proof and leaving the relationship if I didn’t provide it , is surely not normal.

The thing is not only did he say he was leaving because of apparent inconsistencies in my own home but he brought up that he didn’t like the way I disciplined my own dog , for tapping her on the nose when she was being naughty , I’m a musician and I’ve had interested from a RC in LA , when me and him spoke about that , he didn’t like it , he said things like “well what would happen to us “ and “I’m going into the lions den” and that he was being selfish with me , he even admitted that. So in his essay of leaving me , he threw in multiple things , that he never brought up in the moment , like my dog , like LA , I’m doing gigs in September, he also put that in his argument and said “you never spoke about it again” everything I said and did was under surveillance. Not only was it my apparent apartment, he threw in anything in the mix on why in his words “it was the final straw” even though just a month ago he was writing those messages about being committed no matter what. He drilled into my head that he was never leaving that I was in charge of ending the relationship because he didn’t want to end it and he wanted to show utter commitment. He drilled that into me for over a month. Any little bit we had he wanted to resolve he was calm. He didn’t wanna leave but funny enough when I showed him my apartment after him pressuring me and starting an argument about it beforehand when he saw my apartment ironically he then left me it was like he just wanted to see what was inside because I didn’t prove it when he wanted me to. I was deemed a liar. He couldn’t tell me what he was accusing me of when I asked him. Do you think I’m cheating on you he said no I said do you think someone else lives here? He said I don’t know I can’t put my finger on it so he couldn’t even tell me what I was being accused of and then he decided to dump a whole load of grievances on me when he wanted to leave

do you know what he actually asked me? What would I do if I walked into his house and he saw his mum‘s? I saw his mum‘s clothes and I said well yeah I would understand that would be strange and I would question it, but I certainly would not demand you prove it or leave the relationship because of it

Classic abusive tactic. You are well rid.

Apollo23 · 28/08/2026 20:40

This was another recent email from him what shattered me truly………

Holly I left your place on Sunday night for silence and peace

Let that sink in.

On that night I decided I’d prefer to hear nothing than hear your voice. I’d rather sleep alone than sleep next to your negative attitude as it was on that night.
You were supposed to be my peace. My home, my rest, my exhale.
Instead you became my war time after time, especially after we got back together. The instances of our arguments were in the main started by you , and multiplied by your very quick over reactions to instances
We were never far away from a new problem, a new fight.
So that night I chose peace. That night peace for me was single.
Peace was quiet.
Peace was my bedroom
with no one in it except me

Holly you thought your beauty, our language , our fun times, our incredible intimacy would keep me
But all these things without peace were downgraded. Yes of course couples argue and disagree but the levels to which we both stooped to were unsustainable

I didn’t leave for sex with someone else, I left for silence. And silence is freedom for me. I don’t want that all the time but on Sunday night it became my saviour
Holly this means you became so expensive
to my spirit, to my soul, and possibly I to yours. We have systematically destroyed each others sense of self and being.
I just wanted us to be a soft place for me to land
But it became a battlefield.
So I demilitarised .
I removed my troops and myself

You might well say that I’ve lost an unbelievable unique woman , and I accept that. But I also escaped a real headache.
My blood pressure and physical being thanks me every morning.
I will continue to work on myself , and your uncalled for and disparaging remark about my meditation will not discourage me.
I will continue to work on myself and any issues that I feel I have. Although as you will appreciate for a man of my years the wiring is much harder to reconfigure. You will not come across a man as introspective as me, but another reason I walked out on Sunday evening is because you never fully appreciated that. My ‘work on myself’ was never enough for you

IF ever I have another relationship , and it’s a HUGE IF, the next girl won’t be prettier than you
She’ll be quieter.
She won’t be badder.
She’ll be calmer.
Because Im not looking for smoke.
I inhaled enough with us and it’s really damaged me. I didn’t walk out of your apartment on Sunday to another woman.
That night you lost me to my own nervous system. In that instance I chose survival over you, over us.

Through all of my life I have tolerated struggle.
I have tolerated damn near anything.
But what I can’t tolerate any more is having wars in a relationship after fighting them all day in other areas of my life

So I left you that night
and I didn’t rebound,
I didn’t post ads I didn’t look to replace you...
I just disappeared into my own peace. Holly you say you’ve worked on things ? Well since we got back together I saw little evidence of your ability not to over react so so quickly. That’s a huge problem for me, and hence my departure on Sunday evening
I will always always love you. I will always smile when I think of the good times. And I will reflect on those dreadful bumps in the road.

Christ, he really is a pompous self-obsessed twat, isn’t he?

My ex sends me emails with a very similar tone, wildly rewriting history, making himself out to be some kind of hero “above it all” and me to be a psycho and every time I get one (I have to stay in communication with him as we have kids together), I just say “Thanks, noted.”

You don’t even need to do that. Just block his address. The guy is a nut.
