The Rules:
-The first rule about the dating thread is don't talk about it with people you're dating
-Develop a thick skin
-Do not invest emotionally too soon
-It’s all BS until it actually happens
-Trust your gut instinct
-People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault
-Know your worth
-If it's not fun, stop
-Loo update is mandatory
-No dating the thread
-Treat others as you'd like to be treated
-Any relationship you have that could get ruined by having a conversation about your feelings, standards and/or expectations wasn't really stable enough to begin with
-The things you choose to ignore/ tolerate now are the reasons you will break up in the future
If you're wondering if you're being too picky/should give another chance after the second chance/should try harder - the answer is invariably NO! You're not and you shouldn't. If this, now, is as good as it's going to get, the A game, then do you want what comes next?!
-OLD can get very time consuming. Keep doing other activities you enjoy Optional: Please give your irons (potential dates you are talking to) nicknames like Mr Scottish. Initials are allowed (Mr S) when you are an item*

Lmao...brilliant!!

Mildred007 · 25/07/2026 07:44

@BoxOfCats glad the move went well! Hope Mr C gets in touch soon!

@LenaFromTheNineties love your updates! And the insight from your runner friend.

@Ilovelurchers Mr Surfer sounds entertaining haha. What would you do if your ex told you he wanted you back?

Well Mr Sport is still messaging me, still no depth of conversation or date planned but seems nice enough...

However, recent ex got in touch yesterday asking if I fancied popping over last night.... i got home this morning πŸ™ˆ
Not sure how I feel about it or whether anything further will develop. Trying to keep an open mind x

BoxOfCats · 25/07/2026 08:12

@Ilovelurchers Mid August! That’s sooo long to wait. I’d be tempted to tell him just to cut the chat and get in touch closer to the time he’s free, if and when that happens.

Mr Charismatic resurfaced earlier today, apparently had work drinks last night and was out until 4am πŸ˜‚ We are headed out for dinner shortly πŸ™‚

Nosdacariad · 25/07/2026 08:23

Ilovelurchers · 24/07/2026 23:08

Mr Surfer has now said his job is "professional leg rubber" - but has yet to enlighten me further (I have asked). Masseur? Physio? Gigollo? Who knows....

I've half agreed to meet him for drinks, despite him meeting hardly any of the criteria I agreed with Gemini....But he says he isn't available till mid August. Clearly the leg rubbing/surfing/feckless grifting imposes a relentless schedule.....

AND, I remember one or two of you questioned whether my daughter's dad might be interested in pursuing something with me, when I mentioned how helpful he has been lately? I am starting to wonder if you are right. It's my birthday soon, and he has sent a very generous gift... I know my daughter has got other things for me (that he is probably footing the bill for to be fair) so this is very much from him....

Not quite sure how I feel about it - we get on well, and with all the numerous dating disappointments, it's tempting to look back on what we had with rose-tinted glasses? But I have to remember he cheated, and I have no reason to think he wouldn't again.....

I was thinking that about him.

He didn't realise what he had maybe, and he's lucky you still speak to him.

I'm not sure on the statistics on infidelity. He's not single, is he?

@BoxOfCats good advice to @Ilovelurchers

And hope you had a good night with new neighbour.

Mr Beered backed down when I suggested he reschedule so we're still on this morning.

Morning everyone ☺️

Well I’m at a complete standstill with all of my irons.

Mr Tall - last heard from him on Wednesday.

Mr Karaoke - he eventually got back to me on Thursday evening with a relatively long message, asking questions too. I replied to him fairly quickly and since then….nothing.

Another guy who I had matched with a week ago and messaged straight away to say hi etc. He finally got back to me on Thursday evening with a reply that seemed as though he was interested, asking me questions too. And nothing back either!

I seem to be in my conversation-killer era! πŸ˜‚

empirebiscuits12 · 25/07/2026 10:41

I have asked Ex-Runner about dating an age level down from his musings that I posted @Mildred007 partly for completeness and partly because of the age of my current guests. I know someone he works alongside researches 'digital age romance' so there might be some feed through there.

So far as Marcus the Lawyer goes, I'll see how 'drinks' go and take it from there. I'm entertaining the possibility of something short+ term with him as I think it would be an experience. No way could I think of him as a longer term prospect.

Nosdacariad · 25/07/2026 14:18

Mr Beered was pleasant and attractive. He has been divorced three times and currently visits the pub four nights a week.

I said yes to a second date although his adult children don't speak to him much 🚩and his friend is lodging with him temporarily 🟧

Sounds great πŸ˜¬πŸ˜‚ Glad you had a nice time though. Just don't get emotionally attached xx

BoxOfCats · 25/07/2026 16:26

@empirebiscuits12 Argh, the flakiness of OLD. Just remember it’s everything to do with them and nothing to do with you. I will also admit I’ve been on the other side and sometimes just had too much else on and zero energy for messaging more frequently than everyday or so. Although this is one reason I’ve been taking a break from the apps, it didn’t seem fair to continue without the energy to follow through. But hang in there, it’s just a brief lull I’m sure!

BoxOfCats · 25/07/2026 16:29

@Nosdacariad Divorced three times?! Ok so a couple of red flags then. Have a nice time on 2nd date, but keep your wits about you!

Yeah to be fair, quite the parade of red flags

Anyway, seeing Mr Praha in a week 😁

Had a fun dinner out with a somewhat hungover Mr Charismatic at a cheap and cheerful Vietnamese place near us. The hangover didn’t stop him from ripping my clothes off before we even got to the restaurant though 🫣 The chemistry is always off the scale.

I might win the prize for most mundane date tomorrow. We are meeting up late morning to go to… the supermarket πŸ˜‚ Which sounds terribly dull, only we’re both very into food/cooking, and there’s an incredible Asian supermarket not far from where we both live now (he only moved to our current spot a few months back). It’s like shopping on steroids and we’re both excited to go πŸ˜‚

BoxOfCats · 25/07/2026 16:44

@Mildred007 Oooh ok….! How did it end with the ex? Do you think you might still have feelings for him?

BoxOfCats · 25/07/2026 16:50

@LenaFromTheNineties Marcus the Lawyer sounds like an interesting character. I wonder if he will be a bit more relaxed over a drink. He sounded a bit like he was dating in β€˜work mode’ when you met him!

I do have feelings for him but he's also the only man I've been with since the split of my 20 year relationship 3 years ago so I think I need to work out what my feelings are if you see what i mean. We were only seeing each other for 3 months earlier this year & I was a little bit heart broken when he said he wanted to just be friends as had known me a long time & didn't want to ruin things.

I don't think he really knows what he wants tbh, we certainly didn't speak about any of it last night despite chatting about every other thing. I had a really nice evening & it was a happy surprise when he asked me to stay. He has been in touch today. I'm just going to keep an open mind and see what happens...

Nosdacariad · 25/07/2026 17:50

To be fair, I have been divorced twice and had three other longish term relationships (two years or more and included some co-habitation), which I know on paper makes me sound quite red flaggy, but I think it was just a combination of different things, some my fault undoubtedly but also just bad luck/choosing the wrong guys....

The pub frequency would concern me a bit more, but it depends slightly on why he is going and how much he is drinking.....

Is he gainfully employed? Own home? And do you have interests in common? X

I have a FWB arrangement with my most recent ex, and it works for us now, as I have accepted it will never be a proper, exclusive relationship, and though I love him in some ways I am not "in love' with him any more. We both date other people - I am looking for exclusivity and will obviously stop seeing him as soon as I meet someone serious - I don't think he will ever settle down (though you never know....)

What I am trying to say, is it can work, but it's also not for everyone - I think if you are still in love with him and hoping he will choose you, it could end up being emotionally quite painful. (Though of course I could be totally wrong - maybe he has finally woken up and realised what a cock he was to lose you in the first place!)

Just proceed with caution. Don't gamble with more than you can afford to lose...... Xxx

That actually sounds lovely - doing a supermarket shop together is one of the things I sometimes miss about having a proper boyfriend! ❀️

Thanks lovely! Yes it’s the flakiness of it all, plus the fact it’s multiple men πŸ˜‚ surely my chat isn’t that boring!

Mr Tall, I’m not too fussed about it fizzling out because I was beginning to get a bit bored with the repetitive chat with him if I’m honest. My mood was perked up by chatting with the other 2 but never mind! I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt because it’s the weekend.

Nobody else is taking my interest at all. I’m on Tinder because it’s easy to block people from seeing my profile before they even see me. I entered Mr Peach’s details into my block list, and I can’t be bothered seeing him anywhere else online at the moment.
