The Dating Thread 61 - High Summer High Jinks 🍾πŸ₯‚

The Rules:
-The first rule about the dating thread is don't talk about it with people you're dating
-Develop a thick skin
-Do not invest emotionally too soon
-It’s all BS until it actually happens
-Trust your gut instinct
-People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault
-Know your worth
-If it's not fun, stop
-Loo update is mandatory
-No dating the thread
-Treat others as you'd like to be treated
-Any relationship you have that could get ruined by having a conversation about your feelings, standards and/or expectations wasn't really stable enough to begin with
-The things you choose to ignore/ tolerate now are the reasons you will break up in the future
If you're wondering if you're being too picky/should give another chance after the second chance/should try harder - the answer is invariably NO! You're not and you shouldn't. If this, now, is as good as it's going to get, the A game, then do you want what comes next?!
-OLD can get very time consuming. Keep doing other activities you enjoy Optional: Please give your irons (potential dates you are talking to) nicknames like Mr Scottish. Initials are allowed (Mr S) when you are an item*

@Nosdacariad Saturday night is exciting! It's good you didn't fancy plane crash - that is a good sign - from reading between the lines, not knowing the back story.

@Ilovelurchers@Nosdacariad yes im bitterly disappointed that the bakery franchise has come to an abrupt end!

He’s early 40s and moved back home a few years ago when his relationship ended. He’s working his ass off doing overtime at work because he has high legal costs fighting for access to his child. While very admirable, from what he says I don’t see an end in sight to the situation.

I have an adult daughter at home and one of my previous relationships ended after a few years when my ex began sending her inappropriate texts. So it was a very slow process to introduce my recent ex to her and build up to him staying overnight occasionally (he had his own place though). So while my own situation is complicated I can only really move forward into a relationship with someone who has their own space.

Horrendous that your ex did that - I absolutely don't blame you for being incredibly careful who you welcome into your home after such a hideous experience.....

Slight plot twist

Lunch with Mr Beered was ace. Only worry he has some health issues. I'm not sure the drinking is hideous.

Planescrash appeared in the pub a little before we left. Clocked me. Pretended he hadn't. Looked stricken (not sure if me or life in general).
I walked over to say a quick hi while date at bar. He was polite and said he wasn't sure if it was me.

So glad things with Beered are going well!

Planescrash is a dick. "Wasn't sure it was you"??? Have you changed drastically in the few weeks it has been since you last met?

Must have been weird seeing him though. How do you feel about it now? Is it bad that I am glad he got to see you out on a date with a hot guy who clearly really likes you? 🀣 Let that be a lesson to him!

Of course he knew it was me. He stood where he could see me, I even clocked the double take.

I should feel triumphant (bought lunch in a posh pub by a great big handsome bear of a man who looks younger but isn't, looking the best I can look) but I feel sad that he looked terrible and guilty that he looked stricken (although I didn't choose the venue, and I've been going to that pub 20 years longer than planes).

Also no pdas so maybe not obv it was a date. And I have to remember planes went for posh meals with other women WHILE WE WERE A COUPLE!

I hope Marcus the Lawyer this week leads to something interim. Am a bit worn out by the digital pile of rejection. Some that come to mind:

β€˜Simon with the dog’. This was a couple of months ago. Seemed sweet. We made a plan to have a drink, and the day of, he cancelled because his dog β€˜had an emergency’. Like dog’s do I suppose. He said he'd reschedule. Never heard from him again. Guess the dog made the decision for him.

β€˜Rupert’. 40s, finance, looks very polished in a Hackett kind of way. Current simmering possibility. He actually sent a thoughtful opener about my profile. He's incredibly intense. We’ve been messaging for three days and he already wants to know my "five-year plan." I feel like I'm being vetted for a merger. It’s exhausting.

β€˜Liam’, the tattoo artist. We chatted for a bit in May. He was funny, edgy, sent me a photo of a half-finished sleeve that was genuinely cool, but I would never ever want (I have pierced ears and that is as far as body modification will go for me). I was intrigued. Then... silence. Poof. Vanished into the ether. No goodbye, no "sorry, met someone else." Just left me on read. That’s maddening. I’m actually glad I didn't get too far into anything, but it’s a special kind of blow to the ego to be discarded by a man covered in ink who I haven't even met yet.

It has been a collective parade of emotionally unavailable boys and mediocre men who either talk too much or not at all. Essentially, a minefield of low effort and high disappointment. Come on, they should be pursuing me with intention and clarity, taking the lead to plan a proper date and actually showing up. They need to stop treating interaction like a passive transaction and start demonstrating they have the drive and competence to handle a real woman. Deep down I probably scare them, but they will have a little try, then fade.

I'm not convinced many of those men are on OLD...

Anyone know why I can edit some of my posts but not others?

@Ilovelurchers the other possibility is Planes was just gawking at the blonde in the summer dress (also me!)...which is even funnier.

But no, I saw his double-take.

eeek. 2 dates in with Mr Spanner. First was 1 night second was 4…. A bit smitten. He seems to be the same way. WTAF. Have plans to meet up soon… tomorrow. It’s a bit mad but we will see. I know I know I know. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ but the 4 nights was better than my honeymoon. If that’s all it was it was fun. But as I say. Eeek.

Planes doesn’t sound like a great loss. :(. A big bear of a man sounds epic!

I had tickets to an event and didn’t want to go alone so threw caution to the wind. He was already off work so I thought fuck it. Back to reality now and although I’m seeing him this week am aware that I need to slow it down a lot.

duckingclueless · Yesterday 08:45

The most interesting thing about Mr Spanner was going to the supermarket with him! 🀣 it was really interesting Seeing how someone interacted with people in everyday life. Not sure how I orchestrate that into dating next time!

Nosdacariad · Yesterday 08:47

LOL. For me with planes it was shock. I have known some good eaters but never seen someone buy two magnums and eat them both!

You should feel triumphant, but I do understand why you feel sad. You cared about him once and it must have stung for him to see you out and being happy.
But it was choices that put him in that position, not yours and you're entitled to go out and have fun.
Exciting for Saturday!

Mr f1 took himself of the list for me last night. Whilst he booked in a date with Me yesterday for when I'm home 11pm rolled around and he was asking for pictures...πŸ™„ blocked and deleted.

Viking is still giving great chat, is moving to deeper subjects and being super respectful.

Also now have started chatting to an old work colleague from 25 years ago. He commented on a photo I posted and is now chatting in my inbox clearly flirting. I had a crush on him back then but have seen him posting his life, string of girlfriends and never settled down so wary with that one..

Thiswillbefun · Yesterday 09:11

My First Time is still unread so I have moved to Hinge 🀣 First person nice chat but evasive about his job and definitely older in his pics then he claims. Next...πŸ€ͺ

Thiswillbefun · Yesterday 09:13

@Sunshineontheway they are so predictable - I call them out on their Tinder vibe 🀣 They apologise then I delete...yawn...

Honestly, what are they thinking?! I was enjoying chatting with him but just no πŸ˜† easy way to get them weeded out though I guess!
Good luck on hinge, can't understand why they bother pretending to be younger when they obviously are not πŸ˜†

Thiswillbefun · Yesterday 09:18

@Sunshineonthewayit is such an ick!! Thanks for the luck - I think I will need it...
The old colleague might be OK now? I am definitely not looking for another husband or to share my home! When I was 30 these were the top of my list.

He would never have turned up to the date if you sent pics so good job you didn't.
