I think this is probably what has happened. It's important not to get too emotionally involved on Mumsnet, that age old adage comes to mind of 'Do not give more to others posters, financially or emotionally, than you can afford to give'.
However, when England lost last night my first thought was OP and her safety. Her husband's mood and what he might tell her he 'needed' to feel better. It made me feel completely sick.
There is ZERO chance that this man waved his wife off for some space.
Given his profile, I do not believe he would threaten her with violence or act violently initally. I believe one of two things happened:
- He emotionally manipulated OP. 'You've devastated me babe, my life isn't worth living without you and the children. You are my whole world. I know I have messed up but we'd been happy hadn't we? I know you love me and I will fight for you. I won't give up on us now or ever. We've been through everything together, it's us against the world babe. You know you can't live without me and I don't want to live without you. I am going to spend the rest of my life working to be the man you want me to be. I have booked an appointment with a therapist and let's go to couples therapy too if that's what you want. I'll do whatever you want baby, please come back. If I don't have you, I don't want to be alive'.
- He went down the 'You aren't well route.', he got to her parents before she did or threatened to. Maybe she felt that telling them was impossible, that maybe they would side with him. Perhaps because she didn't tell them anything, they said something insensitive. Perhaps she started to doubt whether the issue was actually her. Maybe he mentioned her drinking or her health. 'Come home babe and let me look after you. Nobody can take care of you the way I do', etc.
Of course, either way, the moment she returns, once the honeymoon period is over, she will be punished over and over again. It might take a few weeks this time, maybe even a couple of months as he saw that she had found some strength but nothing will change because he never will never change.
I have never wanted to be wrong more than I do now. Forget to say, whatever has happened we just want to know that you are as safe as you can be OP. And if you did make it to your parents, that's still a big step that you made and you've proven to yourself you can do it now.
