Hi all, no news still good news. All of his big items are gone. Just a few bits left to collect in his car but no stress, all is quiet and amicable. And I got asked for my number yesterday by an extremely handsome scientist so feel I’m doing alright…

Ooh - let’s hear it for Hot Scientist Summer 😍

Agreed. Progress indeed. I hope OP has a fabulous summer, enjoys her home with her DS and goes on a hot date or two.

(you knew me by a different name previously btw OP, I'm not just suddenly all invested in your happiness!)

Of course I did!! We’re low key texting but it’s all very chilled, nobody panic, I’m certainly not diving into anything major.

Totally agree 👍
So often people stay in unfulfilling relationships out of loyalty, habit, fear and just keep trying harder, never knowing there is another life but it needs the courage to do it.

I’m so upset for you. Next you will be telling us he’s mature but still fun. A functioning adult who doesn’t send you 387 messages during the night. Honestly how will you cope? 🤣
I have a male hot scientist friend who, when he’s off, for some reason also likes being a handyman. I know, where was he made and are there more like them?
A few years I go I was struggling to decorate so he helped out for a few days. A very snobby, female neighbour popped in and he started talking to her about marathon running - she had a marathon t-shirt on. She was polite but looked at him like he was downstairs staff at Downton.
I bumped into her the next day and she was moaning about being single and I said what did you think of Steve from yesterday? He was very nice, she said, but she couldn’t possibly go out with a manual labourer she needed someone of her intellect and earning power.
The next time my other half saw her he says what a shame about Steve, he quite fancied you. Anyway, it wasn’t a bad thing as he’s off to Harvard to do some guest lectures so never mind. Oh, he’s not a decorator he’s a scientist.
She had the RAGE.

Crush is a strong word… and nope, not called Steve (hate that name, sorry to all the wonderful Steves out there but that was my first boyfriend’s name, he was a tosspot so immediate ick when I hear it).

OP posts:
Cycleaway · 17/06/2026 08:36

can I just say that I’m so happy for you Pithy that after all you’ve been through in the past few months, that the posts on this thread are now about flirty messages and the name Steve giving you the ick!

frozendaisy · 17/06/2026 08:40

Nothing like a girlie giggle flirtation to take your mind to more fun places!

AcrossthePond55 · 17/06/2026 15:26

Hmmm, I think we do need a name for @PithyBeaker 's 'flirtation' since 'flirty attractive scientist' is too long to keep typing.

So, Steve is out. Maybe 'Alex' for Alexander Fleming? Or 'Mike' for Michael Faraday? I'm sure someone can come up with something more imaginative.

Love the name Alex. That isn’t his name to be clear but we can go w that ☺️

Also: I really can’t stress how appropriate the word “hunk” is to describe this guy. Imagine like the most low key hunky thing you can, say, studying birds in the Amazon or calculating glacial melt in the Himalayas for twelve years. That’s the vibe.

This is funny. On first read, most of me is judging your neighbour for being shallow and requiring a partner to be an equal earner…. Then I remember where that kind of high mindedness got me before and… well… perhaps she’s a sensible woman.

To be fair she had a nice house and a few quid and had been burned by a very abusive ex. So I do I get her point of view.
He was so abusive and she was always so together. You never know what’s happening when a front door closes.
