Husband is MASSIVELY pee’d off with me

I had lip filler done today but didn’t tell my husband as I know he hates it.
I pranked him a few years back by sticking my top lip up with face glue as an April Fool, and he went mad. At the time, I said I’d never have it done. I’ve never been confident about the way I look, I’ve just turned 48 and thought why not?

I’ve only had a small amount and they are quite swollen, they will settle down in a few days. But he says he can’t look at me and that I look like a clown. He’s been angry and shouty but now getting the silent treatment. We rarely have a cross word so today has been no fun.

Not sure what to do. Any advice please?

Mumsnet hates fillers OP so you’ll get the usual judgemental and unhelpful remarks. But ultimately it’s your decision and once the swelling goes down he might be calmer.

Or he might cook trout for dinner!

midlandsmummy123 · 31/05/2025 22:24

Again OP's body her choice, my ex didn't want me to get botox but it didn't stop me, saying that i've only ever noticed the overdone lip fillers, hhmm maybe i need to google this.

Blackjack2002 · 31/05/2025 22:25

Thank you for the balanced replies. My husband isn’t controlling in the slightest. I’ve gone and done something I know he hates and didn’t tell him, because I knew he’d react that way. I can see his point of view. But it isn’t permanent.

Yup I'd be horrified if DH had lip fillers and I would no longer be attracted to him and would tell him so. Loudly and more than once just before I left him. It would not just be how he looked that would horrify me, but the idea that he could buy self confidence by injecting something into his face. And as someone upthread drew the comparison, I would much much sooner he had pissed on the kitchen floor. At least he could clean that up

Interesting that your preference would be for your husband to poss on the kitchen floor, but horses for coarses…

(I do, however, agree with your username)

Why on earth have you done that? Sorry but nothing says vain like lip fillers. Do you actually believe they look natural? Do you not care what your husband thinks?
I strongly advise you get them dissolved.

What the fuck are these first replies? It's the op's body and it's her fucking choice. If her husband doesn't like it then it's just tough. Who are all of you posters telling her she should abide by her husbands preferences, get them dissolved, do what he wants. Quite frankly I am disgusted with the lot of you.

Radiatorvalves · 31/05/2025 20:30

Why on earth would you do that? Sorry but I am team DH.

Me too.

I know it's your body and all that but at 48 you will not be in need of enhancements, not that I think anybody necessarily is.

Lip fillers look fake and ugly.

TheFormidableMrsC · 31/05/2025 22:30

If a man tried to tell me what to do with my own body, I’d kick him to the kerb.

Sera1989 · 31/05/2025 22:31

You fully knew his reaction as you have literally done a trial run in the past. Shouting isn’t on though, I’d be annoyed if someone shouted at me for something I’d done to MY body. I don’t know why you wouldn’t warn him though? Hopefully the swelling will go down and he’ll get used to it. But at the end of the day you’ve gone behind his back to do something you know he won’t like. Of course it’s your body, but that’s not great for trust

Or you can have a really subtle result that looks great. Not everybody has duck lips.

It’s your body op.
Your dh will have to get used to it.

Or he leaves her.

Hmm.

What?

AliBaliBee1234 · 31/05/2025 22:42

My husband is against it too but i couldn't care less. I don't tell him how to look so wouldn't tolerate it from him.

I'm guessing you didn't realise how bad the swelling can be & thought he wouldn't notice. Can you show him some before and after swelling pics? They come down ALOT.

AliBaliBee1234 · 31/05/2025 22:42

DinaofCloud9 · 31/05/2025 22:38

Hmm.

Not a single person except me noticed mine so ...

if he left her over this then she's better off anyway.

midlandsmummy123 · 31/05/2025 22:43

I've just googled celebs with natural lip filler and they all look obvious

CharlotteRumpling · 31/05/2025 22:43

Am sure he wont leave her. Gosh, the drama.

Blackjack2002 · 31/05/2025 22:44

Just to add that I haven’t gone for “duck lips” as I dislike that look. I’ve gone for a small amount for a natural-looking result. They do look swollen at the moment, which will subside. I think he thinks they will look swollen forever, which of course they won’t.

I can really empathise with why she kept quiet, fearful he would talk her out of her own right to make her own decision so I'm completely compassionate to why she felt the need to remain silent on this
No mystery & most surely no surprise or anything odd about it
God Bless Her🙏

OPs been back with a good, calm update but here we are, frothing at the mouth about a controlling man.

HevenlyMeS · 31/05/2025 22:46

Completely Concur With You 💚🥰🙏
