Husband is MASSIVELY pee’d off with me

Blackjack2002 · 31/05/2025 20:29

I had lip filler done today but didn’t tell my husband as I know he hates it.
I pranked him a few years back by sticking my top lip up with face glue as an April Fool, and he went mad. At the time, I said I’d never have it done. I’ve never been confident about the way I look, I’ve just turned 48 and thought why not?

I’ve only had a small amount and they are quite swollen, they will settle down in a few days. But he says he can’t look at me and that I look like a clown. He’s been angry and shouty but now getting the silent treatment. We rarely have a cross word so today has been no fun.

Not sure what to do. Any advice please?

Oh OP I know this feeling, it's horrible. In my 30s I lost most of my eyebrow hair due to an autoimmune disease, and I made the decision to get them microbladed (tattooed). I did a lot of research to find someone who would do them well. When I came home they were really dark and severe, like shockingly so. My husband, normally a mild-mannered man, was really shocked and distressed, and so was I! The lady who did it hadn't told me that it would be really dark at first but would fade over a few weeks.

He raised his voice a bit, which he never does, and said 'it looks like you've drawn them on in felt-tip pen!'

I looked in the mirror and I did indeed look like a madwoman who had drawn thick, black eyebrows on herself. I was horrified, because this would be permanent!

I googled feverishly and found the right advice - that the eyebrows would look shocking for a week or so but would fade. That gave me hope but I was still paranoid. My husband felt the same.

The microblading gradually faded and started looking nice and natural. My husband's trauma has likewise faded and now he thinks I look lovely. I hope the same happens for you, OP 💐

I’d be devastated if my husband did something like this to his face. It would really make me consider if I knew him at all.

Same.

It’s your body but he’s got to look at you. I wouldn’t be happy if I felt a bit repulsed when I looked at them, especially during sex.

Well sure if op got massive trout pout fillers but I very much doubt she has

HevenlyMeS · 31/05/2025 22:50

Either way it's your choice whether he's regarded controlling or not, giving you the silent treatment for doing something to your own face, isn't kind

GoodOldTrayBake · 31/05/2025 22:51

HobbyHorse30 · 31/05/2025 22:15

Is it also his right to get angry and shouty?

No. He should be able to communicate his opinions without shouting. But he is entitled to an opinion. Not everyone finds fillers attractive.

Over lip fillers???

midlandsmummy123 · 31/05/2025 22:43

I've just googled celebs with natural lip filler and they all look obvious

Obviously the one's that look fake look noticeable. The ones that look natural you wouldn’t be flagging up as fillers.

TENSsion · 31/05/2025 22:52

TheFormidableMrsC · 31/05/2025 22:50

Same.

I notice many, many women who have this. I have never commented though.

Do you really think I’d tell them how awful their faces look?

The view we get from the side is a world away from the front on view you get in the mirror.

yakkity · 31/05/2025 22:54

GoodOldTrayBake · 31/05/2025 22:15

It’s your body. It’s your right to do what you like. But if your husband doesn’t find you attractive after having it done, that’s also his right.

do you shout and rant when you don’t like things? Maybe you ought to get that looked at

HevenlyMeS · 31/05/2025 22:54

I'm really pleased for you & it's inspiring for others to read your comforting words
I've most surely seen numerous folk over the years, where you know they look so beautiful but you would never guess they'd actually had some additional assistance, because they look so natural 🙏

FusionChefGeoff · 31/05/2025 22:56

Totally your body your choice - I can’t stand them but it’s nothing to do with DH what you do with your face.

However, you knew he hated it so the adult thing to do would have been to tell him beforehand “I know you hate it but ultimately it’s my face so I’ve booked an appointment for xxx. They will look worse for a few days then settle down”

No. I agree he should be able to communicate his opinions without being angry or aggressive. But he’s entitled to an opinion and some people find fillers grossly unattractive.

yakkity · 31/05/2025 22:56

Itsrainingthankgoodness · 31/05/2025 22:12

It's not just about changing the size of lips is it?

Do you always think there is something deep and underlying when people modify themselves? Ear piercing? Tattoos? Change their hair colour?

StrikeForever · 31/05/2025 22:57

TheFormidableMrsC · 31/05/2025 22:50

Same.

Don’t you know that people do notice them, but are too polite to say anything?

Lavender2015 · 31/05/2025 22:58

Don’t worry, if you’ve just had a 0.5ml of filler they’ll look normal but slightly plumper in a few days.

ThisChic · 31/05/2025 23:00

ButteredRadish · 31/05/2025 20:35

Why on earth have you done that? Sorry but nothing says vain like lip fillers. Do you actually believe they look natural? Do you not care what your husband thinks?
I strongly advise you get them dissolved.

Being vain is not the worst thing in the world 😂Almost everyone is to an extent.

Her partner doesn't get to dictate what she does to her body, although I can see why he's annoyed, and she perhaps should've told him first, I don't see why she didn't (even if she knew he wouldn't like it).

MumWifeOther · 31/05/2025 23:01

Personally I’m not a fan, but it’s your choice and your husband is being a dick.

Hey OP ..
Just swollen now , that will go down ..
You said you only got a little , so I’m sure it will look fine ..
Your husband just has to get over it 🤷🏻‍♀️..
He shouldn’t be name calling to be fair , saying you look like a clown…x

How do you know? They may not have commented, but that certainly doesn’t mean they didn’t notice.

Gyozas · 31/05/2025 23:05

Blackjack2002 · 31/05/2025 22:44

Just to add that I haven’t gone for “duck lips” as I dislike that look. I’ve gone for a small amount for a natural-looking result. They do look swollen at the moment, which will subside. I think he thinks they will look swollen forever, which of course they won’t.

He is controlling. He’s acting upon that now with his punishment. You can do whatever you want to your own body. That’s it. That’s the end of it. He can fuck off.

Grammarnut · 31/05/2025 23:06

Monvelo · 31/05/2025 20:40

Just got to wait it out on both fronts, I think? I mean they're not for me but you knew what you were doing and must like them. You know your husband doesn't like them but decided you would go ahead because it's your body and up to you, so I suppose you've just got to wait for them and him to calm down. He'll get over it, even if he doesn't change his opinion.

Daft thing to have lip filler. They look awful. Not surprised OP's DH is upset. Just because it's your body doesn't mean you should do silly things to it. That's on the level of 'it's my toy, I can smash it if I like' - which we would certainly tell a child was not the case.

Crucible · 31/05/2025 23:07

I think he gets a vote here because he kisses you. You don't kiss you!

They will though - you'll be looking at them face on, it's at the side that you get the duck lip appearance. Even the nice doctor who does my botox has duck lips.

Yes Completely Concur With You it's her choice 💚
