Dating guy whose "wife was shot dead"

For a month I've been casually seeing someone.

He is quite hard work in general.

This weekend he told me that his wife was shot and killed in Afghanistan where she was a marine.

Having looked this up...this seems impossible. A tiny number of British female soldiers were killed in Afghanistan and all deaths are documented on the government website and seem widely reported in the media.

It seems this is a very bizarre lie.

Or I'm losing my sanity.

This village sounds rough as 🤔

Hahahaha! It's definitely not the rural idyll I thought it was!!

There's some lovely people. There's some with a past. I guess we know our neighbours better here..I wouldn't really have known my neighbours in the city.

It's been...interesting!

I don't understand the obsession with the pub.

Can't you go somewhere more interesting?

Its our only communal social space. We don't have a cafe or a community centre. We're lucky to have the pub! Buses stop at 6pm. A taxi to town is £20.

I go to the cinema or garden centre or out for brunch. I have my hobbies and work but the pub is important here and I'd never want to feel I wasn't welcome there or wasn't able to go.

So it's not an obsession..the pub only opens 3 days a week anyway...but it is important above and beyond the fact that it serves alcohol, if you see what I mean
for example ill take my knitting there on a Sunday and drink hot chocolate rather than sit alone in my house. Ill see my neighbours. One teenage girl wants me to teach her to knit etc.

I wonder if we live in the same village, not in Scotland is it 😂

Wales. I honestly am so happy here. By the day and hour and week.

I suppose it was inevitable I'd meet some rugged local and have a liaison. Thankfully I've escaped unscathed.

I'm a bit late to this thread but this man and his "friend" sound very unpleasant. I'm glad you've broken things off.

I highly recommend this book to anyone struggling to identify red flags, or to end a relationship with someone they're afraid may turn on them
https://amzn.to/4hYic9F
The Gift of Fear

The author recommends that when ending a relationship or turning down a date, women should not ever use another man as an excuse, or make up something like "I'm moving away" because if the man is dangerous then he will seek to overcome the "barrier" such as saying "I'll move, too!" or "I'll prove I love you more than he does!"

So I'm glad you didn't end it like that, although posters suggestions of playing him at his own game were funny!

I grew up in the Welsh Marches with zero social space for 10 miles.

Go out in the car to somewhere better.

In the 90s we had one bus a week, on a Thursday. The last bus home was 4.05...
