Asking a tradesman out after doing job

userhelp · 24/09/2024 13:54

Had a tradesman around to do a job, got on well lots of chatting about ourselves, life's etc definitely a bit of flirting, he even made a comment about taking me out at weekend which I kind of pretend I didn't hear as was embarrassed

Would it be cringe of me to text asking for a drink? I mean I figure I haven't ever got to see again if they say no 🤷‍♀️

We're both in your early 40's and single

Tradesman here, electrician (the superior of all the trades as we like to say😄) I met my wife through a job, as many of us do.

Went to fit a shower extractor light for her, she was quite flirtatious and cracked a joke about "you better not be fitting a camera in that light"

So a week or two later I was passing her house, called by, she opened the door with a smile and I went in with the retort "cameras out of focus, need to make some adjustments", both cracked up laughing, she invited me in for a cuppa. I took a risk with the risqué banter as she's a solicitor!!!

20 great years, 2 kids, dog and cat later...

I do recognise the ups comment about us getting nothing done at home though, our house needs a re-wire quite badly, but I just don't get time to do anything about it, so busy sorting others stuff out.

DadJoke · 25/09/2024 10:06

It’s a good opportunity for some smutty euphemisms, too!

Ivegotaboneinmyleg · 25/09/2024 10:45

Ohhh! A happy thread! 😀
Wishing you all the best OP - I hope that your date goes well!

forevernumb · 25/09/2024 10:54

I dated the plumber who put in my downstairs bathroom, we were together to 3/4mnths.
I ended it, because he was quite hard work (lots of things he said didn’t ring true!) and I had to find a new plumber.

Oh no! You don't want to acquire a bad boyfriend and lose a good plumber (if they're same guy).
Good plumbers are as hard to find as good boyfriends! 🤣🤣🤣

Yes! Pretty much. He’s plumbing skills were far superior to his boyfriending skills 🤣🤣. Now I have no plumber 🤣

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 25/09/2024 12:11

@aCatCalledFawkes 😭😭😭 next time you'll keep your libido under control! 😁😁😁

EveryOtherNameTaken · 25/09/2024 12:46

Sounds promising. Just a word of warning. Don't expect all those odd jobs around the house done. My husband is Master builder. Can I get him to fix my wardrobe doors or put up my new shelves in the garage? NO!. 😁

Dammit. There goes my five year plan to find a man who can fix all the little issues in my house 😑

Love your update, OP. Keep us posted!

ChinUpChestOut · 25/09/2024 15:54

Have you figured out what you're going to wear on said date? I think we should see some outfit choices so we can help....

<<way too invested in this date and should be working>>

userhelp · 25/09/2024 20:31

ChinUpChestOut well I actually met him when he was going the job in leggings, sweatshirt, fluffy slippers, hair tied back and no make up so I feel like anything will be a improvement Grin

I haven't really thought about it... jeans, and shirt or something were meeting Sunday afternoon in a town in between us for a few drinks and some food so smart/casual really

Any suggestions? I'm 5'6, size 8, blonde and early 40's if that helps

Wear good shoes. Belt is only slightly important and handbag not at all. [Source: DB2 who is a horny goat.]

DysonSphere · 25/09/2024 22:37

Something blue...

Meghan Markle tip😅 Adds to the wedding.

Well it worked for her!

helenatroy · 26/09/2024 17:46

Awesome. Hope the date is fabulous.

Barney60 · 26/09/2024 17:54

You could always say something like, now when can i buy you a pint for having done a fabulous job, see what he says in reply, please tell someone where your going and that you will message when back home. Enjoy!

Mumof3confused · 26/09/2024 19:49

I’m dating my builder and I must say there are many unexpected benefits of dating a capable man who’s good with his hands. Those little jobs around the house are getting done, too…

JacketPotatoFoodOfTheGods · 26/09/2024 19:55

Love it!

Jack80 · 26/09/2024 20:50

Go for it.

Squareroot · 26/09/2024 22:56

Promise us you’ll update this thread after your date on Sunday. You have to let us know how it goes!

Squareroot · 26/09/2024 22:59

ooh & I’d wear a navy blazer, white shirt, blue jeans & white trainers. Sexy & sophisticated

FatLarrysBanned · 24/09/2024 17:59

Worked for me. 4 years on we are still both like giddy teenagers and head over heels in love despite being well over 40! I did pay him for the initial job, but all subsequent work has been free 😂

free or you found other ways to settle your bill? 😉. Very cute story. Pleased it worked out…go for it OP…

Love nice real life love stories like this.

And no one got offended.

Lovely story @LovingCritic

People complain they don't meet anyone yet always taking offence to innocent jokes.
There's a fine line of course but so many choose to be offended by the slightest thing.

Freysimo · 25/09/2024 07:33

This is disappointing. I always thought that in my next life I would like to marry a plumber, electrican or builder.

I want a hairdresser next time round.
