Asking a tradesman out after doing job

userhelp · 24/09/2024 13:54

Had a tradesman around to do a job, got on well lots of chatting about ourselves, life's etc definitely a bit of flirting, he even made a comment about taking me out at weekend which I kind of pretend I didn't hear as was embarrassed

Would it be cringe of me to text asking for a drink? I mean I figure I haven't ever got to see again if they say no 🤷‍♀️

We're both in your early 40's and single

Well done Op, this is fantastic. Grin

I've seen threads were the tradie messages the woman and the advice has been report the creepy bastard 😂... ah double standards.

Whilst having fun encouraging the OP, we should acknowledge this is true.
And maybe be less harsh on blokes asking women out...

Mummyofthewildones · 25/09/2024 06:07

Love this!

Skipsurvey · 25/09/2024 06:11

Exciting OP! Hope the date goes well.

Ok, this is tricky and I think we can all acknowledge the subtleties here. The important questions are:

  • Is there a power imbalance and if so, who has the most power in the situation?
  • Is there reciprocal flirting or is one person behaving in a predatory manner?
  • Leading on from that, is the use of somebodies personal number that was obtained in a professional manner unsolicited?

Basically there is a difference between someone (a trades person) who only has your name, number, and address for work purposes, coming into your home, making you feel uncomfortable (saying inappropriate comments), then sending an invited message using your details and this situation. I’d argue that the power and professional standards lie with the tradesperson and that they probably shouldn’t act to misuse their power and the information about the client obtained to do the work. This isn’t a simple woman asks man out fine, man asks woman out wrong.

On your first date, show up with a detailed list of all the things you need done in your home 🤣

🤣🤣🤣

63isMe · 25/09/2024 06:54

Paranoid much? 😂😂

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 25/09/2024 06:56

Agree with @ISpyNoPlumPie it's not black and white.
How fun you've got a date op.... Good 'how we met' story you've got there. 😁
You're not going to Screwfix though are you? 😁

63isMe · 25/09/2024 06:59

I love this thread! Good for you OP! Let us know it goes x

crockofshite · 25/09/2024 07:00

That's lovely, hope it goes well.

BoilingHotand50something · 25/09/2024 07:02

Ohh this exciting. As others said, just make sure you stay safe and be aware that this might be something he has done before. But good luck!

Thecatthatgotthesouredmilk · 25/09/2024 07:05

This happened to my sister with an electrician. They are still together a year and half later and very much in love.

Am now so invested in this thread! Also is promising that he suggested the weekend -clearly a hard working type 😁

Sounds promising. Just a word of warning. Don't expect all those odd jobs around the house done. My husband is Master builder. Can I get him to fix my wardrobe doors or put up my new shelves in the garage? NO!. 😁

Absofuckinlutely!

The random DIY I've taught myself to do via YouTube is unreal. At least there's a garage full of tools I can raid when I'm sick of waiting...

aCatCalledFawkes · 25/09/2024 07:21

I dated the plumber who put in my downstairs bathroom, we were together to 3/4mnths.
I ended it, because he was quite hard work (lots of things he said didn’t ring true!) and I had to find a new plumber.

I think that’s fair.

This is disappointing. I always thought that in my next life I would like to marry a plumber, electrican or builder.
