Dear god....is he coming on to me?

I have some photos someone wants.
I said:

I can be bribed with a few thousand quid.

His reply:
What I'd want for a few thousand quid I sincerely hope and trust you wouldn't sell me.

He has flattered me in the past in general ways, but I have just taken it as him being open and friendly.

Do I ask him what the hell he means? Not reply. Ever.

I see him often at a sports club. He is nearly 20 years older than me and married. I am in my 50s. FFS.

It does sound a bit suggestive!

Nogardenersworld · 24/06/2024 20:31

A 70+ year old married man made a ‘joke’ about purchasing you for sexual services and you’re flattered?

i would avoid him like the plague personally, but you do you.

NO, I don't mean I am flattered by that, is that how it comes across?
I'll edit the post.

He has flattered me in the past with more general things (you're a good Mum, that was kind of you, you ran well)

I don’t understand the above

Why do you think I'm asking for advice if you think I'm flattered by being bought for sex?

I took some photos last week, and someone would like to see them.

Is that more clear?

He's flirting with you in quite a gross way. I would ignore the innuendo. Pretend you don't understand what he's getting at, and take a step back from any kind of friendship with him.

I'd just ignore his comment and say "shall I post the photos or wait until I next see you?" Because I'm a wuss 😂

Xsnsnshsjs · 24/06/2024 20:36

I mean yes it’s suggestive. But in the realms of ‘general creepy’ rather than specifically coming on to you. I say this as he says ‘i hope you wouldn’t…’, ie: he’s being crude (yuk) but not making a specific suggestion x

"I have some photos someone wants."

I said

I can be bribed with a few thousand quid.

Why the fuck did you say something like that???

Either give him the fucking photos or explain why he can't have them

Jesus wept

Why dis you give him the opportunity to be dirty flirtatious??

Shut him down as efficiently as possible

Bumblebeeinatree · 24/06/2024 20:42

You said you could be bought and he said, he wouldn't be sold. And you think he's coming on to you? I think he was a bit shocked that you would sell yourself.

Exactly! You started the joking around, playing games instead of commucating more straight forwardly and normally, you won a prize you don't like. Why would you say something like that?

Blouson · 24/06/2024 20:43

OP, sorry you wasted your time. So many cant understand what you meant even though its obvious.

RiverF · 24/06/2024 20:43

Oh that's a shame, I thought it was quite a good line until I got to the married bit.

I'd just ignore/pretend it went over your head.

Why did I say something like that?

The conversation went a bit like this. Light hearted.

him: do you have some photos of the event
me: I do, but you can't see them
him: maybe I'll bribe Sarah
me: ha, she doesn't have them, I do, I can be bribed.....

Event was a sporting one where I got an award, he wondered if the moment was captured by Sarah.

Seems totally normal to me. Are we not meant to joke with men lest we give them the opportunity to be flirtatious?

TBF your line about being bribed was quite flirtatious

If you read my follow up, you can see that my 'I can be bribed' was in the context of the conversation.

If he is serious, then I doubt he wants to pay anything. 20 years older, I would actually be offended unless It was a genuine joke.

RatZilla · 24/06/2024 20:45

I think you started it...

I'm very naive then. It's just the sort of thing I'd say to any friend.

TBF to who? Him? It's my fault?

That seems odd to me anyway.
