The Rules:

1.The first rule about the dating thread is don't talk about it with people you're dating.

  1. Develop a thick skin.
  2. Do not invest emotionally too soon.
  3. It's all BS until it actually happens.
  4. Trust your gut instinct.
  5. People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault.
  6. Know your worth.
  7. If it's not fun, stop.
  8. Loo update is mandatory.
10. No dating the thread. 11. Treat others as you'd like to be treated 12. Any relationship you have that could get ruined by having a conversation about your feelings, standards and/or expectations wasn't really stable enough to begin with 13. The things you choose to ignore/ tolerate now are the reasons you will break up in the future 14. OLD can get very time consuming. Keep doing other activities you enjoy.

Optional: Please give your irons (potential dates you are talking to) nicknames like Mr Scottish. Initials are allowed (Mr S) when you are an item

I used to have a rule to not match with anyone who’d taken a selfie in their car. Always turned out to be wronguns

Loads and loads of women use car selfies on the profiles, the woman I’m seeing had one

VanillaSox · 30/01/2024 07:02

So many of these! If anyone was out at a pub music gig in Twickenham on NYE with a brand new shiny gorgeous tall date in his 50s, who has a cute new puppy and who seems too good to be true but then puzzlingly evasive with work trips abroad - he might well be my recent iron 😂😂 in which case -just run!!! He is more married than he reveals.

VanillaSox · 30/01/2024 07:05

Sorry realised I was replying to much earlier messages!

FlojoHoHoHo · 30/01/2024 09:39

Bumble in the north west isn’t any better and my ex is on there, you def don’t want to match with him! unless you want to be dating his mum too 🤢
Where are all the decent guys? Are people just not using OLD any more?

Treezylover · 30/01/2024 10:21

Omg can we not just build a list of fuckwits to avoid in 2024, by location?

Ooh I’d like that - brief not too identifying details and anyone thinking ‘he sounds familiar’ can then discuss via DM.

I imagine there’s definitely an overlap with some on here and the motley selection on OLD so forewarned is forearmed

Yep I’d def be up for that

2anddone · 30/01/2024 11:16

Norfolk girl here...all men seem to be in the gym, holding a big fish or sat on a motorbike....oh and also pictures with ladies who they have blurred the faces off of badly 🤣🤣

Ooh are there 3 of us in Kent. God, the quality is low. Morbidly obese 'sex positive' geezers posing in bed. Smarmy-looking alleged CEOs with Paul Hollywood beards holding skis. Men who look like Ronnie Corbett in the show Sorry. Chavvy 30 year olds with gold chains and a thing for older women. Where are the normal men?

Edited

I’ve got a feeling I know the Smarmy-looking alleged CEO with Paul Hollywood beard holding skis in real life as an acquaintance who fits that exact description is on bumble and does live south of the river.

Name starts with a C if it’s him

I’m in the south west and it’s not any better down here. Honestly the amount of men holding a fish or baby I’ve seen the past 24 hours on Bumble 😂

Or the men who write ‘ask me’ in their bio - fuck sake 😂

I joined Tinder and have actually matched with someone who is very chatty. He seems nice based on our lengthy messages to each other. We shall see.

Adateworsethandeath · 30/01/2024 12:51

Watch out for a guy in a senior education post in the south east - so bloody obvious he is married.

blackice · 30/01/2024 13:15

Scottish bloke (professional) living in London. Suspect his LT partner does not know they have separated

Just out of interest, what are the very obvious signs of a date being married?

SamW98 · 30/01/2024 13:48

Sales rep Berkshire - likes to wank during phone calls

Id say only available for dates at certain times. No conversations by phone in the evening.

He started doing it while we were talking on phone - and it wasn’t a sexual conversation at all 🤦‍♀️

Advice pretty please...
Strangely I feel stung and a bit upset by this. Had a great conversation with a guy on the phone and we arranged to meet up. I was getting ready to go on holiday and he suggested that if I was stressed about work stuff and packing to fix a date on my return which we did. Sent a few pictures and shared messages while I was away. On my return he couldn't make the date as he felt unwell and had blood tests, needed rest etc so fine, I suggested another date which he didn't want to do in case he had to cancel again, so now two weeks after my return from holiday have passed. Still messages etc and I suggest meeting up again and he says he feels not on form and I joke that I am not expecting gymnastics but would be nice to meet and he sends a message about his dinner....so I slept on it and messaged him to say that I felt I had really shared a lot with him in the expectation we would meet and I understood about feeling rubbish but when I had suggested meeting I felt a bit brushed off and maybe now wasn't the right time for him.
Anyway the reply I got was that he wasn't keeping things from me but he didn't know what he had and it wasn't about being not on form he felt ill and he didn't suggest speaking on the phone because he wasn't feeling well and I always sounded busy anyway, so best not to go any further. Jesus! I can't honestly believe he couldn't cope with a phone call or to set a date for the following week...to put this in context he lives a mile from me and there's loads of coffee shops etc locally. Just feel quite confused and annoying that I spent 3 weeks messaging a guy and sharing things with someone who can't say, sorry you felt that way, maybe I can call you when I am better ..

2anddone · 30/01/2024 17:55

@Livelifelaughter sounds a bit like messages have gone on for a bit too long and he has gone off the boil!
Don't message him anymore and see if he messages you.

Loopylooni · 30/01/2024 17:59

@Livelifelaughter he probably had no intention of meeting you and you gave him a way out so he took it. Time waster.

RosieAway · 30/01/2024 18:03

@Livelifelaughter yes that hurts. Seems as though a lot of guys on apps have no intention of meeting. He might be ill, but that’s churlish to just call quits based on that. I’ve had this happen before when I’ve asked directly what’s going on etc. Like they crumble under any perceived pressure/being held to account
