What does Lots of ducks to feed mean here???

I met a guy on online dating. He asked where I lived. I told him my whereabouts. He then responded saying 'lots of ducks to feed there.'
Does anyone knows what he means by this?

OP posts:

In fairness this guy was probably just mentioning she lives in a part of town where there are loads of parks (with ponds, potential romcom style duck feeding date), and he now, thanks to MN, has received a message saying "do you mean ducks or tossers".
He's probably like WTF???

I shouldn't, but I can't stop laughing at the thought of looking at my phone after an innocent comment about feeding ducks to see I'd been asked if it was ducks or tossers I was referring to. I'd see the funny side personally once explained, but I admit I'd be thinking WTF at first myself 😂

Indeed!

I live in London and if someone said they lived in Westminster, the parks would be the first thing I'd think of in terms of a potential date in their area. This seems really obvious. No wonder he hasn't replied to the "ducks or tossers" message.

Do you think he meant pigeons?

No, he used the word ducks. He meant ducks.

Yeah that's what I was thinking . Maybe English isn't his first language and he's struggling to differentiate between a fuck and pigeon?

kidsonthemoon · 05/09/2023 08:44

Sorry duck and a pigeon. Grin

kidsonthemoon · 05/09/2023 08:47

Lmfao. Just seen op asked if he meant Ducks or Tossers. Fml I'm dying

pickledandpuzzled · 05/09/2023 08:48

"Hi- when you say 'ducks' are you being literal? I don't always get idioms!"

We’ve all had that issue.

A good rule of thumb is that while both can be soothing, and too many can irritate, fucks don’t tend to shit on your head, unless you pay extra.

Hermanfromguesswho · 05/09/2023 08:51

I reckon that seeing as you were discussing where to go on a date ge was thinking that there are lots of parks/ponds and wouldn’t it be nice to go for a walk/coffee rather than just meeting in a coffee shop?
I’d probably reply something like ‘yes, x park is lovely, lots of wildlife. Shall we meet there for a walk and a coffee after?’

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 05/09/2023 08:54

Don't get 'down' if it doesn't work out 🤣

minibreak39573 · 05/09/2023 08:57

Google told me this - a term used to describe male masturbation. It is often noted that masturbating and feeding ducks involve very similar hand motions. 🤢

LunaNorth · 05/09/2023 08:59

Do they though? I’m imagining bread and seed flying up in the air and hitting people in the face, and a load of hungry ducks with ‘wtf?’ expressions on their faces.

Debini · 05/09/2023 09:01

If I was guessing I’d say he was referring ladies to ducks and saying there are many in your area? But who knows 🤷‍♀️

CoreopsisEverywhere · 05/09/2023 09:07

Assuming it was just a throwaway comment about ducks, then he must be mightily confused by your response and there’s not a chance he will be back in touch.

greyhairnomore · 05/09/2023 09:14

Do you live in Aylesbury?

Ophy83 · 05/09/2023 09:32

In the context of your conversation about agreeing on a coffee shop, he is using a metaphor to compare the people in and around Westminster to ducks - Westminster is busy, there are a lot of people to feed, therefore there will be a lot of coffee shop options nearby

letspopthekettleon · 05/09/2023 09:36

He's making a funny comment about there being lots of ducks ie wankers being in Westminster right now. If he's liberal, he's no doubt is speaking about this current Tory gov.

I can't understand how this could be interpreted as anything else.

This isn't a red flag. Don't read too much into this and potentially dismiss a perfectly lovely guy.

letspopthekettleon · 05/09/2023 09:39

Ok read your latest post... the few lines and taking ages to respond would be a red flag though.

GLORIAGloriarse · 05/09/2023 09:40

I think he is just talking about the lakes in st James's park etc being nice places to walk. Sweet, throwaway comment.

GLORIAGloriarse · 05/09/2023 09:41

Every word you look up on urban dictionary pertains to sex, wanking or idiocy. Most of them are made up and never see real use. I don't think it's this.

Chippy4me · 05/09/2023 10:00

I'm actually not impressed by his few lines per day communication. Why throw me a confusing/controversial line of expression and then go mute?
Silly silly man. Complicates life for no justifiable reason. Like I don't have enough things to expend my brain energy on; he adds to the load. I just want to go on a coffee date - simple 😢

I think you’re the one making things complicated tbh.

I would have taken it to mean exactly what he said.
It sounds like he was just trying to make conversation about the area.

I would have replied “yes I guess so, where abouts do you live?”

I don’t think you need to over analyse what he’s saying.

If you want to meet for a coffee just ask him.

He can’t always reply straight away though so if he doesn’t respond for a few hours don’t panic.

Do you live in Aylesbury?

That was going to be my question!

hev126 · 05/09/2023 10:10

hashbrownsandwich · 05/09/2023 06:31

He means lots of potential people to date.

??? 😂😂

This thread is priceless. How can't "lots of ducks to feed" be interpreted as lots of women to date??

And PP who said it was probably supposed to be 'fucks' instead of 'ducks' - who actually feeds fucks? 😂😂😂

Poor guy probably meant it's a nice area with nice parks and walks etc. He's probably got no idea why OP responded the way she did and that's why he's not replied 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

This thread is making me chuckle tho

LordLetMeGlow · 05/09/2023 10:13

All you should have said is "do you mean there are loads of pondy parks round my way? If so, yes! We could go for a walk sometime this week? X"

GLORIAGloriarse · 05/09/2023 10:29

People have complicated this for the OP trying to be funny and she's now replied with a slightly odd comment.

He might take it in good grace and make a joke about politicians but in future, if someone gets confused because they take things literally and don't know whether this has a figurative or jokey meaning, it's nicer to actually help them out, not bring up made up stuff from urban dictionary.

If you want to see how inane that site is, just look up any given name.
