I send someone a WhatsApp message 1 day ago and he’s not opened the message but I can see he’s been online. Is it possible he’s not got the message or is he ignoring me ?

LeilaM42 · 14/08/2023 16:14

In that case my own mother has ignored me !

If it was a problem your end it would have the clock icon. One grey tick means delivered but they haven't received any two means it's been delivered.

Sparkshaveflown · 14/08/2023 16:25

Op, pick up the phone to your Mum, she is probably busy/not arsed about Whatsapp. This is an oversight.

Do not txt or msg him again. You have not heard from him since Sat, is that right? He knows your tel no, he knows where you live.

If he were that bothered he would have called you on landline/or mobile or, come to your house in a mad panic , checking you are ok . I doubt he has posted on social media worrying his arse about you . Sorry, do not msg him. I am sorry, this will hurt.

He is no Eric Clapton!

LeilaM42 · 14/08/2023 16:31

Maybe he’s not seen it ?

OP posts:
Sparkshaveflown · 14/08/2023 16:32

"@LeilaM42 any idea what I could say ?"

Nothing. You will look desperate. Given your user name, what would Patti Boyd do? I bet she would not have been repeatedly messaging George Harrison.

Sparkshaveflown · 14/08/2023 16:34

@LeilaM42 Please, have some pride.

That was my point, if he has not seen it, where is is his concern and urgency for you? Bin and move on.

yellowsmileyface · 14/08/2023 17:19

OP, he's seen the message.

Why are you letting this person have this strong an affect on you?

acpk55 · 14/08/2023 17:25

JenWillsiam · 14/08/2023 09:10

Again not true. If you delete a message it says just that. Message deleted.

Only if you delete an individual message, if you delete ( or clear ) a chat the other person will not be informed.

Watchkeys · 14/08/2023 18:12

If you don't think he's seen your message, ask him if he's seen your message.

Why are you making this so tortured?

What’s the difference ?

OP posts:
Sparkshaveflown · 14/08/2023 19:15

Archived/muted. No difference Op. it is all a form of final silence.

Have you heard from him?

Guessing not. Move on honestly.

acpk55 · 14/08/2023 19:18

@LeilaM42
If you mute a conversation or a contact you will not get the notifications ( on an iPhone at least) , I normally mute group chats or you just get bombarded with notifications

archiving a chat makes no difference to the chat, it’s just a way or organising your chats and conversations in WA,
HOWEVER if you have a number of archived chats and you get a message on one you will only see the number of messages

have you looked at WA help centre at all ??

He's been online and he hasn't replied to you. It's been 2 days. He's never going to reply.

hippygirllucky · 14/08/2023 19:33

Don't send another message. Conversations are a game of tennis. Once your sent the ball over the net, it's the job of the over player to continue the game and send it back.

rocksstones2023 · 14/08/2023 19:48

Goodness this is why I rarely use WA and when I do I have online and read notifications off.

So if a friend or relative didn't respond, you'd just leave it at that?

It's worth one message or a quick call to check if he's received hers. That's hardly obsessive or stalking. Technology isn't 100% reliable.

what do you suggest I say ? I’m at a loss tbh

OP posts:

Why are you complicating it? If you want to know if someone got your message, what do you think you should ask them?

DixonD · 14/08/2023 20:10

You leave it, move on, forget him. Do not chase him. A man who is interested will show it. You’ll feel worse if you text him and he doesn’t respond again.

If he wants to speak to you, he will get in touch. If he doesn’t want to/not interested, no amount of texting is going to change his mind; he’ll just run faster in the other direction.

Don’t lose your dignity over this guy.

Just not sure if I should mention the message or keep it light ?

OP posts:
Watchkeys · 14/08/2023 20:14

If you're finding it this hard to compose a simple message to him, how do you think a relationship with him would be healthy? Compatible partners communicate with ease, so, regardless of whether he's read/ignored your message, you can tell he's not for you.

Just forget it and find someone you feel comfortable communicating with.

Sooze2023 · 14/08/2023 20:22

He's seen the message but has chosen not to reply. It's that simple. Nothing else.

My friend has been in this position where she gets a message, replies to him then radio silence for weeks with her sending follow up messages .... and repeat .... she still can't understand why he does this still .... after 3 YEARS!!!!!
