@winniewitchy Personally 6 weeks of self care doesn't feel enough but it might be for you.

How long was your last relationship?
What was it like? Any abuse? Even low level?

Missing being in a relationship isn't a reason to start OLD, you need to be at ease with yourself and be living your best life before you go looking (IMHO)

SortingItOut · 09/10/2022 08:01

@NoDatingForOldMen Thanks for your insight.
I still don't like the lies, knock a year or so off but 10.

I'm not fussed about height, as long as they're taller than me which isn't hard as I'm 5ft 3😂

Not saying I agree with the age thing, but I do understand why some men might do this.

I also understand the height thing, I’m on some male forums and the ‘shorter’ guys always say they struggle to even get matches let alone dates, so again I do understand why some men might add a couple of inches to try and at least get in front of someone

winniewitchy · 09/10/2022 10:09

@SortingItOut yeah I don't think im ready to go into it head on, more dipping a toe.

My last relationship was 18 months and although not abusive on the face of things, my therapist has helped me to see that there was some gaslighting and manipulative behaviour on his part.

Boundaries are the things I need to work on and I guess this is one way to practice that if nothing else

OnceRuralNowUrbanbliss · 09/10/2022 10:18

Had a wonderful time at a big family party last night with photos projected of the birthday boy (now 80) and I committed to not settling for anything less than what my aunt & uncle found in each other one dark November night in 1963 - total joy and commitment to and from each other for 50 years. It's smashing.

Strange dating conundrum for me ce soir as my mate I have tickets to see comedy show with is ill so can't come. I'm meeting a fella (Mr Curly) for a brief Date 0 drink beforehand so if that goes well I could ask if he'd like to join me.
Am happy to go by myself
I could also ask my son who lives close to the venue or the fading away Mr Art who really really likes the comedian. He's my last choice tbh but lives miles away so can't be arsed to even mention it to him.

OnceRuralNowUrbanbliss · 09/10/2022 10:27

I do not know of this Mile setting in Tinder and don't understand it either.
Why would you not just set the parameters at approx the distance and age range you'd be ok with considering and that's that.

winniewitchy · 09/10/2022 10:32

I live quite remotely it's just a way to see who's 'liked' me further afield without me having to trawl through. It's a bit like paying for tinder gold I suppose

Mila14 · 09/10/2022 10:44

Oh Oncey, I thought you met MrCurly last night. Good luck with that.

Beautiful day today so Pilates and long walk with the girlfriends pour moi. Mr Euro very polite and proper in WhatsApp but I am busy watching Netflix this evening with my friends. Tomorrow I have dinner out with MrEx and my window for dating closes as I get kids back Tuesday . Not sure if I want to meet MrEuro ( I loved the champagne and nice dinner date 1 ) . Too many red flags but the one that really worries me is him not having ANY relationship with his DC…I wish he had not confessed that. Family is number 1 for me.
I don’t know what I want but I am loving life at the moment.

Mila14 · 09/10/2022 11:05

@winniewitchy … the way I see OLD is to put yourself and what you love first. I think its a good idea to not invest massively in any date or relationship unless you are sure and your gut feeling says its right. Having fun in a date is brilliant, even if there’s no second date. We are all learning 😊

Thisisworsethananticpated · 09/10/2022 14:51

Mila14
yes I meant to comment earlier

the not having a relationship with kids is a spider sense tingle for me too
and better you know , sooner than later

ICrunchCrispsNotNumbers · 09/10/2022 16:17

Hi all,

Still not dating but here for the ride ❤️

ICrunchCrispsNotNumbers · 09/10/2022 16:26

It would be lovely if I could date someone who works in HR. I did chat to one on Bumble once, but it frizzled out. (I've got him as a connection on LinkedIn though!)

My mum did contact someone about Salsa Dancing, (after being negative about it, initially.) but they haven't got back to her, I think I'm just going to book on anyway when the time is right ❤️

ICrunchCrispsNotNumbers · 09/10/2022 16:28

I did used to enjoy talking about books and English with Mr Gambit though. (When he was around, that is.)

mistyriver · 09/10/2022 20:46

Evening all, glad to have discovered this thread. Could really do with some advice as just dipped my toe into OLD. Joined eHarmony because a mate did, but don't think it's me. Seems quite serious. I don't know what I want but it's clearly not another serious relationship! Maybe none of it is for me, but what others should I try if I want something lighter, flirty maybe, maybe some younger men? (I'm 46)

Think I will stick to real life man-meeting if I can perfect any techniques to make more of them approach me in the wild.
This makes men sound a bit like forest ponies or unicorns 🦄 make sure you always have some sugar cubes in your pocket, just in case you meet a man in the wild, or should that be a wild man ?

for reason I thought of Bill Bailey , and come across this

I will avoid any man who suggests a rendezvous in tundra.

In fact I have been known to bring a small parcel of ritual sugar cubes to a date, along with a pocket microscope. But that's a story for another time!

Thisisworsethananticpated · 09/10/2022 21:25

mistyriver

hinge and tinder

fret not , there is no shortage of younger men wanting some lighter fun 😄

Thisisworsethananticpated · 09/10/2022 21:30

Slothmomma

exactly !!!! 🐈‍⬛❤️🐈‍⬛❤️

Slothmomma · 09/10/2022 22:10

Had date 4 with Mr medic this evening. Hoping he can change his childfree weekends to align shortly so we can spend some "quality" time together 😉

WeWantTheFinestWines · 09/10/2022 22:31

Checking in to new thread. Had lovely weekend away with friends. Will catch up with everyone but it's time for a joyful MOTD2 now.

30somethingandstillsingle · 09/10/2022 22:45

Hi, not posted in a while but have tried to keep up with some of the threads!

Back dating, had nothing exciting or worthy of a post until now.

Last week I matched with a very very good looking iron, I'm not a fan of a 'league' mindset but right from the off I felt he was out of my league.

Tonight we had a first date and it went amazingly, really easy chatting and we have similar values etc and time flew by. Then he walked me to my car and went in for a kiss... which sent my heart rate through the roof Blush
Before I'd even got home he text to say what a good night etc and hopes we can do it again...
He clearly likes me, so why can't I shift this feeling of him being out of my league? And I looked up his ex and she's younger and slimmer than me too (I know I know, I shouldn't have done that!)

Wtf is wrong with me?!

NoDatingForOldMen · 09/10/2022 22:51

@30somethingandstillsingle
And I looked up his ex and she's younger and slimmer than me too

But she is an Ex for some, reason, and you are current person getting dates and kisses, just enjoy it and don’t overthink things
