If England get beaten, so will she.

#DomesticViolence increases 26% when #England play. 38% if they lose.

@PRabbit

Thanks for posting, that image is incredibly powerful. I agree they should put statistics and contact details on tv before the match so victims can get help. It just confirms my feeling that only yobs watch football.
I'm not a football fan myself, but what a ridiculous and snobbish thing to say.
MrsMackesy · 12/07/2021 11:30

Not all 'yobs' watch football. Not all watchers of football are 'yobs'. Not all Domestic Abusers are 'yobs'. They are the 'nice' dad at the school gates, the 'nice' colleague at work, the 'nice' team mate at amateur football, the 'nice' bloke at the pub, the 'lovely' brother or son.

Of course football isn't a reason or excuse for Domestic Violence and Abuse, but the shocking statistics are there for all to see. More women will have been assaulted and abused yesterday, last night and today. That needs to be highlighted, those women supported and the world of football needs to address Domestic Violence and Abuse by some of its fans, players and staff.

@brittleheadgirl of course not all football fans are yobs (I have relatives who love football who certainly aren't) but there's no denying there's a big yob/thug/hooligan culture that surrounds football unlike any other sport.

I was supporting England but going home in early hours of the morning as a lone woman after the final I was actually relieved that they lost as it meant England fans on public transport were much more subdued than they would be otherwise and I felt a lot safer. I wonder what the DV stats are for other sports e.g. Wimbledon final and British player loses chance to be the first British player to win in over 70 years ...I bet we don't have the sort of DV and antisocial behaviour as with football.

SarahDarah · 14/07/2021 09:53

We had public screening of wimbledon men's final and the Euro final. Guess at which event the place got trashed?
Nothing wrong with the football game itself but we need much tougher sanctions on all these football "fan" antisocial yobs. They make life miserable for so many people, including of course poor women and children at home.

CrinkleCrankle · 14/07/2021 11:49

Football has got a problem no denying it

Bump.

Like football, for some abusive men hot weather and/or alcohol are rarely a good mix.

Sadly true @MrsMackesy

The most depressing aspect to this thread is that those figures are almost certainly only a fraction of the abuse that is really occurring. Terrified women hiding behind closed doors, silently suffering the horrors of the abuse. For so many women, they encounter abuse regularly but during certain times then it increases even more. Ie....his team wins so he gets pissed and that leads to violence or his team loses and he is then intoxicated and angry. What a terrifying cycle. Sadly, if the abuse is reported then the abuse can quite often get worse.
