Drinking in the morning - everyone does it, right?

Even when they have young kids?
Totally normal yes?

Well he's just told me to ask around. Don't fancy asking my friends so here we are
I'm being told this is totally normal and everyone does it, so why shouldn't he.

No, everyone doesn't. I love a drink and mix with a fairly heavy drinking crowd and the closest I've come is when we do a Sunday morning social club meet up at about 12.30.

Pokske · 07/03/2021 16:18

If he's hiding it he knows very well it's not normal. Of course it's not ! Except for hard core alcoholics.

UntamedWisteria · 07/03/2021 16:20

Well I think my DH drinks too much but I've never known him have a drink before lunchtime - and then only if we are being sociable with others.

LowlandLucky · 07/03/2021 16:20

Don't leave, make him leave, your children need a home. He is an alcoholic and will only beat this if he admits he has a problem, that could take him years. He doesn't have the best interests of your children at heart so put him out, for their sake. Good luck x

MummyJ12 · 07/03/2021 16:20

Morning drinking is only ok for me on Christmas Day and maybe on my birthday if dh has the day off with me (so he can do the school run!) otherwise no, definitely not. I think you know this though op. I’m so sorry you’re in this situation.
He needs help, I hope he accepts it. Unfortunately, if he’s in denial he’s probably going to have to get worse before he chooses to get better.

Ohwhatevu · 07/03/2021 16:22

How often does he drink?

MummyJ12 · 07/03/2021 16:22

And even on Christmas Day and birthdays, it’s a glass of fizz with breakfast. Nothing more.

zingally · 07/03/2021 16:23

Erm, no?

Only time it's acceptable is the 3 days around Christmas (eve, day, boxing), and maybe a bucks fizz or similar for a special occasion or holiday brunch?

The only man I ever knew who drank in the mornings was a functioning alcoholic. He denied his status every single day, until he dropped dead of a massive heart attack at 43, leaving a wife and 2 kids who were about 5 and 7 at the time. His DS7 never really got over the loss of his dad, had tangles with the police and school authorities throughout his teens, and is only now, 20+ years later, starting to get his life together.

m0therofdragons · 07/03/2021 16:24

I drank Buck’s Fizz on the morning of my wedding day and this Christmas while I cooked the lunch but otherwise nope

2020Diary · 07/03/2021 16:25

Christmas Day; Wedding Day but otherwise no. I have known 2 men who drank in the morning both died in their 50s from alcohol related conditions. Good Luck with this Flowers

fedup078 · 07/03/2021 16:25

We've already been through the whole 'ill get help and I'll stop if you give me another chance' bullshit. One call to AA and stopped for a few days before normal service commenced
He's had his chance

More fool me

@LemonadeBudget

Christmas Day maybe. Otherwise, nope.
This a nice baileys coffee of a Christmas morning. Otherwise obviously not he is an alcoholic
Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 07/03/2021 16:26

is it a weekend thing op?

regardless
be strong.
dont stand for it.

RoSEbuds6 · 07/03/2021 16:26

only acceptable on Xmas morning, or when young and on a cross channel ferry or a hen weekend.

I do know of a highly qualified academic who has whisky in their porridge every morning...

alreadytaken · 07/03/2021 16:27

Lunchtime, with a meal - yes, but wouldnt class that as morning really and wouldnt be a large amount. Apart from that maybe on holiday as something different or because I dont trust the water as much as a lager. And on Christmas day.

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 07/03/2021 16:28

my h called me in the beginning of our relationship asking where i had put his whiskey at 10.00 one morning, he used to come home for his tea break
i wish my life had been different.

ladygindiva · 07/03/2021 16:30

Me and my dp wouldn't dream of it except maybe a bucks fizz with Xmas breakfast. Tbh even my alcoholic ex didn't start until at least lunchtime!

Jaxhog · 07/03/2021 16:30

Go to AlAnon. You'll meet others in the same situation and be reassured that you are in the right.

dworky · 07/03/2021 16:31

If you're an alcoholic, yes totally normal.

Skyla2005 · 07/03/2021 16:31

Def not normal that's an alcoholic

cjpark · 07/03/2021 16:32

No. definitely not normal. The only person I know who drinks the morning is an alcoholic.

ktp100 · 07/03/2021 16:32

Absolutely 100% NOT!!

Pulledamonica · 07/03/2021 16:33

Good on you for getting rid of him.

longtompot · 07/03/2021 16:33

The only time I've drunk alcohol in the morning is Christmas day with our breakfast and at weddings, when getting ready with the bride. It is not normal to drink alcohol in the morning.

StartingGrid · 07/03/2021 16:35

Whose house is it? Can MIL not bring the DC back and take him instead?!
