Drinking in the morning - everyone does it, right?

Even when they have young kids?
Totally normal yes?

Well he's just told me to ask around. Don't fancy asking my friends so here we are
I'm being told this is totally normal and everyone does it, so why shouldn't he.

Hugs just go .

littleloopylou · 07/03/2021 15:00

Ugh, no. I probably drink too much but drinking in the morning just sounds grim

Iloveacurry · 07/03/2021 15:00

Definitely not normal. Perhaps a Buck’s Fizz on Christmas morning.

TankGirl97 · 07/03/2021 15:02

So sorry op.

The only two people in my life who did drink in the morning are dead. One was dh's best friend. Still makes me so angry.

WrongKindOfFace · 07/03/2021 15:03

Oh that’s not good. I’m really sorry OP.

Claudia84 · 07/03/2021 15:03

I don’t even understand the question. Does he seriously think everybody does it?
On holiday maybe but even then it feels a bit rough, and with or without children just no!

SpiderinaWingMirror · 07/03/2021 15:03

Special brew on the cornflakes? No one would admit to that

doctorhamster · 07/03/2021 15:04

The only person I knew who would drink in the morning died at 43.

louisejxxx · 07/03/2021 15:09

Very special occasions e.g on holiday, Christmas or your wedding (I wouldn’t on my birthday, nor someone else’s wedding unless I was in the wedding party)

saturning · 07/03/2021 15:09

not for people who can regulate alcohol. maybe on a special birthday, like 30/40th or wedding or christmas.

Ineedcoffee2021 · 07/03/2021 15:11

On holidays, yes, i had a cocktail in my hand by 10am, loved it
A regular day, work, school run, bumming about home day, nope
only person i know who does that daily is a life-long alcoholic

takingmytimeonmyride · 07/03/2021 15:11

Normal for my DH.

That's why he's now an ex and I'm so much happier.

Ladywinesalot · 07/03/2021 15:11

Sorry love, no.

My Dad drinks in the morning on his day off Sunday.
We’re lucky if he waits till 10am and he’s an Alcholic

ChameleonClara · 07/03/2021 15:11

Hope it goes ok and there is not too much drama in the short term

EwwSprouts · 07/03/2021 15:11

No. And definitely no with young DC who need sober parents.

ChronicallyCurious · 07/03/2021 15:12

Nope. Maybe a glass of Buck’s Fizz on Christmas morning maybe. The only other time I’ve drank in the morning was when I was a teenager and went to music festivals and everyone was cracking open cans at 10am. So nope not normal behaviour at all especially older with a family

Fuckityfucksake · 07/03/2021 15:13

Nope!
Some people do in the airport before an early morning flight or even on holiday, also on Christmas day etc.. but it's certainly not the norm for most.
The only person I've ever seen do it regularly was my alcoholic ex partner, he normalised it to himself too.
Don't be gaslighted OP
If the person doesn't admit it's a problem nor wants to stop you just go around in a shit circle of lies and misery.
My advice, take it or leave it, is GET AWAY FROM HIM.

BurgundyBells · 07/03/2021 15:15

Context is everything...both dh and I have had a glass of wine at 11.30am ish on a Sunday whilst cooking a eiqdt. It feels a bit naughty but relatively normal I'd say.

How much to drink and at what time, for what reason?

georgarina · 07/03/2021 15:17

Not normal unless it's something like a mimosa with brunch.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 07/03/2021 15:19

Definitely not normal. Even newcomers in AA meetings sometimes feel the need to say ".... but I've never drunk in the morning". And some don't, but lots do. I was drinking 24/7 by the end (years ago) but can't imagine claiming that this was ok to anyone.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 07/03/2021 15:20

Absolutely not normal. It is a massive flag for serious problem drinking.

Even I can get through to 12 or 1 on Christmas day before I have a sherry.

Morph2lcfc · 07/03/2021 15:22

The only time I’ve drank in morning is during the World Cup when you end up with matches at silly times due to time diff so we’ve been down the pub to watch match with others at approx 7am and started drinking (this was pre kids I wouldn’t have the stamina now) and at the airport when going on hols

Turth · 07/03/2021 15:22

The only person I know who does that is an alcoholic family member.

springtimesunshine · 07/03/2021 15:23

Er, no sorry that's not normal.

Christmas Day, maybe a glass of fizz with a brunch on my birthday or possibly on holiday pre children. Those are the only times I'd think it relatively normal to have a drink in the morning.

But you knew that OP. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. Get some support, it's out there for families of drinkers.

HazelBite · 07/03/2021 15:24

This is so sad that someone, anyone, puts alcohol before his family.
