What small, dull, mundane things make you love your DP?

I don't mean big things like him being a good father or a loving partner.

I mean little things that just make you think "I'm glad I stuck with you" and "life would be just a little bit worse without you doing XYZ" a couple of times per day.

For me...
My DP is freakishly good at making up rhymes and limericks on the spot. They're always rude and very often offensive about people (including me and him) and really make me laugh. Life would be much duller without his impromptu poems.

DP is also amazing at making cups of tea. He's a scientist so I don't know whether it's many years of lab work measuring things out and stirring things but his teas are fantastic even though he's not been in a lab for about six years. Life would be considerably worse without his tea-making. Even I can't make tea for myself as well as he does.

What about you?

Whenever we are out and we bump in to someone he knows and he gets talking or he is distracted elsewhere - on the phone, driving in the car, at his parents - he always reaches a hand out to me and touches me or gives me a tiny squeeze. I think it’s his way of reassuring me that even though his focus isn’t on me at the time, I’m always in his thoughts.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 03/09/2020 15:44

He deals with the awful school website for booking lunches and wraparound care.
And the equally awful one for gymnastics.
And the truly dire one for swimming
(Definitely a theme!)

monkeyonthetable · 03/09/2020 15:50

He sings to himself and has a wonderful voice. I love listening.
He makes up silly jokes and games on the spot. DC groan but they love them.
He offers me a lift to the station every single time I am running late for a train, and picks DC up from the station whenever they want, especially when it's raining or late at night.
The cat used to claw me all night long, waking me up to the point of sleep deprivation. I complained one day and next night, DH's massive arm swooped over and removed cat, snuggling him against his chest instead. Ever since, cat has curled up obediently in his arms all night long.
He loves doing the weekly shop, so I leave him to it!

monkeyonthetable · 03/09/2020 15:52

And he constantly quite earnestly explains to me that he still fancies the pants off me even though I am self conscious about having gained forty pounds since we met.

Yaottie · 03/09/2020 15:54

He goes out to grab takeaways when we're
both knackered. He makes me laugh all the time. He knows what's in my head before I've even articulated it. He paints my nails if I ask nicely. He gives me the last cold can of coke. He's endlessly patient with me.

Geppili · 03/09/2020 15:57

Like Monkey, he constantly tells me he fancies me and that I am beautiful and he means it! I'm size 20!

Geppili · 03/09/2020 15:59

Oh yes, and if I ask him nicely he can be persuaded to imitate pretty much anyone famous or friends and family. It makes me crack up without fail every time because he does it so well! He's really shy about this skill.

OilBaron · 03/09/2020 16:04

These are so nice Grin

@OilBaron I'd love to hear some of your DH's rhymes and limericks! Another thing he does is make up songs and rhymes (often rude and full of innuendo) about our DDog. DDog is unbelievably heavily endowed for a small male dog. So whenever the dog's willy appears DH and DSs all sing: 'Mister Woofalinus, with the absolutely massive......tail' over and over in operatic song.

He is WFH, every day when I was furloughed and shielding he brought me up a cup of coffee and a truffle as soon as I woke up.

Now I am back, he gets up and makes us both a coffee and then makes me a small flask to have during the day, prior to this I used to buy a daily coffee, then I realised just how poor the quality was and he decided to make me a small flask.

I love him, I don't love the seven pounds I gained in lock down. Grin

Geppili · 03/09/2020 16:05

@finallyfluid the truffle is soooo sweet tho!

SBTLove · 03/09/2020 16:06

Can’t cook but for some unknown reason is a poached egg expert 🥰

MerylBleep · 03/09/2020 16:06

He chops wood for the chimnea in the summer and the log burner in the winter, not in advance but as we need it. I love it

Geppili · 03/09/2020 16:09

Sorry I am avoiding sorting school uniform. He has ridiculously big blue eyes fringed with long thick black lashes. But he just does not see how handsome he is. So I tell him a great deal and when I do his whole long body goes like jelly and he gets this reaaally soppy sheepish smile on his face. I am missing him too. He's been working flat out for the NHS since March and is still lovely!

BestOption · 03/09/2020 16:09

@FinallyFluid
@monkeyonthetable

Do either of them have a twin brother who just happens to be as lovely and single?

OilBaron · 03/09/2020 16:10

@Geppili

One from last night...

I know a man called Jack
Who's got an enormous sack
His wife's called Mary
She's a big fat fairy
And has mould growing out of her crack

(Jack and Mary are our neighbours)

Another one...

There was a young lady called Sian
Who looks like she's made of yarn
Her hair was a state
She'd never had a date
Because she smelt like she was born in a barn

(Sian is one of my friends who has terrible hair)

There are thousands of others we've forgotten over the years Grin

No dp here but what a nice thread Smile

Hopeful theres one or two of these nice ones left!

Inthetropics · 03/09/2020 16:10

My DP cooks everything i want. She is a chef and will make delicious meals for us. Also, she makes lovely petit fours that are great wirh coffee and i love coffee and petit fours.

She is brilliant at fixing randomn stuff. So i'll be thinking that X and Y need to be replaced and come home to find it's now in perfect condition.

Also, she just says the most funny things out of the blue and i love how funny she is.

larrythelizard · 03/09/2020 16:11

He hides toddler DS' favourite toys in the lounge every night so when DS gets up and is brought downstairs he gets to play hunt the teddies

Inthetropics · 03/09/2020 16:12

And... she smells great. All the freaking time. Best smell ever.

Ruminating2020 · 03/09/2020 16:18

He fixes things. He does the jobs I don't like such as gardening.
The way he tries to encourage more confidence from me.

mistermagpie · 03/09/2020 16:18

My DH is brilliant with people. He's so much more popular with the school/nursery mums
and staff than me. I'm total introvert and he really takes the pressure off me in social situations because he's just so at ease in them.

CrazylazyJane · 03/09/2020 16:20

He's really practical and is endlessly patient when I break stuff or don't know how to do things.

He knows that I find having my hair stroked calms and comforts me, so will reach over and do it when he can see I'm stressed.

He makes a lovely cup of tea.

fairydustandpixies · 03/09/2020 16:22

My decree absolute!!

Poppyismyfavourite · 03/09/2020 16:23

Well I first knew he was a keeper when I'd been laying loft flooring, and I complained that I'd sat on the rock wool and had itchy splinters in my bum! He immediately offered to have a look / pick them out! I was too mortified to accept, but the fact that he was willing made me think!
