What small, dull, mundane things make you love your DP?

I don't mean big things like him being a good father or a loving partner.

I mean little things that just make you think "I'm glad I stuck with you" and "life would be just a little bit worse without you doing XYZ" a couple of times per day.

For me...
My DP is freakishly good at making up rhymes and limericks on the spot. They're always rude and very often offensive about people (including me and him) and really make me laugh. Life would be much duller without his impromptu poems.

DP is also amazing at making cups of tea. He's a scientist so I don't know whether it's many years of lab work measuring things out and stirring things but his teas are fantastic even though he's not been in a lab for about six years. Life would be considerably worse without his tea-making. Even I can't make tea for myself as well as he does.

What about you?

He snuggles up to me in his sleep when he's stressed, he'll be fast asleep and I'll move slightly and then he'll curl back into me.

He researches everything I've said I want to do (cosmetically) so he understands what I'm in about, or he'll come to me with a solution for something I've mentioned bugs me in passing.

He lets me put my cold feet on him. They're always like ice.

He lays in my side of the bed in winter whilst I'm doing my night time routine so my side is warm when I'm ready for bed.

This thread is so wonderful, thank you!

TheSecondMrsAshwell · 03/09/2020 18:12

My DSis used to have a car with a front passenger seat that wouldn't open from the outside, I used to have to wait for her to open it from the inside. It was a running gag.

Was away with DP (we don't live together) and we went back to the car. He went to get in and I stood there patiently waiting for him to lean across and open the door. Must have looked like Hyacinth Bucket stood there, cos he got back out, came round the car and opened the door from the outside. I thought that was so sweet - instead of rolling his eyes or tutting, he just did it for me. I did explain why I didn't open the door.

He's in strict lockdown cos his DDad isn't well - every time he sends a pikkie or we zoom, he's wearing something I bought him. Love that.

Ruminating2020 · 03/09/2020 18:13

Cuddles me when I am in bed but struggling to sleep and when my feet are cold.

Offers to make me my evening drink.

LunaNorth · 03/09/2020 18:20

Brings me coffee in the morning and makes my peppermint tea at night.

Always makes sure my Bluetooth sleep mask is charged.

Puts a new blade on my razor without my asking.

Buys me gifts for no reason.

Sings and plays guitar.

Looks after our dogs like they’re his children.

Lets me talk to him when I’ve had a bad dream, at any point in the night.

Supports and encourages me in everything I do.

And he just brought me an AF gin and tonic while I was writing this!

He’s a diamond.

Moonflower12 · 03/09/2020 18:21

He makes me coffee every morning in the stove top percolator. He doesn't drink coffee. He spends ages in Sainsbury's choosing different coffees he thinks I might like.
He puts up with me doing very silly things. Today in a cafe I somehow managed to order 3 breakfasts for the two of us. He just thought it was so funny.
He makes sure my tech is always running properly.
He buys me chocolate and croissant s which he also doesn't like.

Bence69 · 03/09/2020 18:35

He tell me I’m hot as fuck first thing in the morning messy hair & no make up.
He makes sure I’ve always had something to eat.
He makes sure my petrol is topped up always.
He takes my car to the car wash while I’m still in bed sleeping.
Bit of a naughty one .... he gives the best oral I’ve ever had 😍

Oxyiz · 03/09/2020 18:45

He's just so sweet and kind and funny - there's never a day when we don't laugh or cuddle. Lockdown and working from home together every day have been brilliant, and he still makes me smile every time I see him, it makes my cheeks hurt.

He's having some hospital tests at the moment and I am terrified.

ShopTattsyrup · 03/09/2020 18:50

He always brings me a cup of coffee in bed if he gets up before me.

He was "not a cat person" but I catch him chatting away to mine when I'm not there, and he always comes home with a little toy or treat for her when he goes to Bargain Save 😂.

He gives the best spoons in bed because he knows I like them even though he's not a big spoon fan.

When ever he sees something funny online he saves it or screen shots it to show me later which I find adorable!

JorisBonson · 03/09/2020 18:50

I've had a long, hard, crap day and got home soaked to the bone. I just wanted to be babied a little bit.

DP waiting with a towel, pyjamas warmed and waiting and a babies tea of alphabites and drumsticks in the oven (it's a very very bad day if that's what I need for dinner) and a gallon of wine ready.

This is why I'm marrying him in 3 weeks.

Lovingitinlockdown · 03/09/2020 19:01

What a cracker of a thread OP - just magical.
My DH fixes things- whether it’s practical stuff around the home or an IT problem, he’s just great. He’s also really quick witted and very funny. We laugh all the time.

Shoxfordian · 03/09/2020 19:05

My dh is such a kind lovely man. He adores me, tells me I'm beautiful even when I'm in my pyjamas with my hair scraped back

doodleygirl · 03/09/2020 19:10

He brings me hot lemon every morning and then makes my coffee when he hears me walking down the stairs. He will always offer to walk the dog when the weather is bad. He will pick anyone up from anywhere at any time of the day or night.

He chats to AlexaGrin

SimonJT · 03/09/2020 20:27

Him putting up with me, its essentially a miracle.

He dislikes rugby, but he has made a point of going to every match I’ve played in since we have been together. As much as I like that he does it, I don’t at all expect it.

He is currently quarantined in my bedroom so I’m doing a mix of sofa sleeping and invading my sons bed. He has been reading my son bedtime stories through the cat flap in the bedroon door. Its very cute.

Lovingitinlockdown · 03/09/2020 21:03

My DP will make us both a cup of tea and then he will try his and tell me if it’s cool enough to drink 😇 He’s always right too.

burblish · 03/09/2020 21:03

When I come to bed with feet like blocks of ice, he hooks them and warms them on his legs. He pops to the shops with nary a grumble any time we need anything. He always goes to bed before I do, but never goes up without kissing me first. He always does the kind thing.

BlueCowWonders · 03/09/2020 21:13

He puts me first. Every time.

herrcomesthenamechanger · 03/09/2020 21:14

He researches for months to get me perfect presents.

He picks the red wine gums out and saves them for me as they're the only ones I like.

He's bloody brilliant at imaginative play and does it endless with DS (I hate imaginative play)

He makes me laugh, even though no one else we know gets our sense of humour. I love the moment he's proud of a particularly bizarre joke that I'll cry laughing at while everyone around us thinks we're both idiots

DiscontentedWoman · 03/09/2020 21:17

He makes an excellent brew of a morning, and brings it to me in bed despite the fact he doesn't drink any hot drinks himself.

Wildwood6 · 03/09/2020 21:36

I’m enjoying this thread so much, can someone collate all these into a book please?
My two pennies worth: I know it’s been mentioned a lot, but he’ll always bring me a cup of tea in the morning, I don’t know why this one is so important to us all, but it really does make a difference, doesn’t it?
He’ll buy me flowers just because he hasn’t bought me flowers in a while. My nephews and nieces adore him and he genuinely adores them back. He holds me and strokes my hair when I have nightmares until I go back to sleep. You know everyone has that household chore they irrationally hate doing? Mine is unloading the dishwasher and he will so quietly and unassumingly always do this that I don’t realise until I go to put a cup on the dishwasher.

imaflutteringkite · 03/09/2020 21:37

He fixes stuff and makes sure that my car is working properly and regularly fills it up with petrol for me. He brings me coffee in bed when he knows I've had a rough night with DD. He makes me laugh every day.

LemonSquash94 · 03/09/2020 21:38

I always go to bed earlier than DH, every night without fail he’ll come to bed and tell me that the loves me with a little arm squeeze or a kiss on my head.

Sometimes I’m still half awake or will wake up and it makes me swoon each time 🥰

Bluewavescrashing · 03/09/2020 21:38

I broke my favourite mug the other day washing it up. DH fixed it with glue and then when it was dry put it in the cupboard with a cute note inside--'put tea in me, but be careful with me'. It made me smile that he fixed it and was thoughtful.

AramintaLee · 03/09/2020 21:49

He buys me period chocolate and makes sure there is always a tub of Ben & Jerry's Phish Food in the freezer when I'm due on. Definitely a keeper.

katmarie · 03/09/2020 21:53

He portmanteaus silly words with me, and we play silly word games. He makes me laugh every day. He tells me randomly that I'm amazing. He will fix anything for my parents or siblings. He puts spiders out of the house before I see them.
