Scared by someone entering our house today - big argument with DP

I need to know I’m not going crazy. I was in garden, and came in to see a strange lady using our toilet. Baby was asleep in room next to door, and my DD was there too. DP had opened door and let lady in to use the toilet, he claims she pushed past him - but I think he should have said ‘no’ firmly.
Man on doorstep wanted to contact previous owners of our bungalow - DP was about to get all our paperwork out. I stopped him and told them to contact estate agent.
Strange lady came back later. I spoke to her through window - she wanted to know if the previous owner had died - and then said the bungalow should belong to them.
I feel very shaken up and DP has been having a go at me saying I overreacted.

They sound unhinged. I would check that nothing is missing.

If the incident had happened the way your husband said it did , then he may have had to physically stop the woman from entering the property and this is something that a lot of men are taught to avoid. I would give your husband a break . This woman who entered the property without permission and then told you it should belong to her(?) Is the real problem.

Yes I’d be really cross and much more so that he’d failed to stop someone pushing past rather than he’d invited someone in

All sounds very weird. I'd consider police, and increasing your security. Someone who believes they should own your house probably also believes they can take whatever's in it. Alternatively, a woman asking to use the toilet and someone else asking your husband for stuff, that reeks of distraction burglary.

She said the bungalow shouldn’t have been sold - something about the nephew sold it and her partner should have it. She wanted to know if previous owner had died and how much the bungalow sold for.

Sounds like she is related (daughter?) To the previous owner. She came to visit her relatives(parents?) And on finding that they don't live there any longer immediately assumed that they had died and therefore she should have inherited the property . Obviously , a lot going on there .

Distraction burglary was what I thought. Nothing missing.

If she's pushing past him into the house then the husband has a legal right to defend himself and his children and wife,correct? Idk British law but here in the states you can.You have no idea what her intentions were. I'd have lost my shit with your spineless husband and both of the strangers

Tell her to piss off. It’s nothing to do with you. If she’s that concerned then she should contact a solicitor. Tell her if she ever tries to get into your house again that you’ll call the police. I suggest you set up a security camera on your front door

It was how quickly it all happened - and the safety of my children which disturbs me. And DP can’t see why I’m upset. I’ve just had a massive go at him - over this and something else he did this afternoon.

If someone does that, call the police! Don't start showing them paperwork. Your DH is weird.

I’m not normally one for calling 101 but in this case I would - just in case they are distraction burglars doing the rounds. Although that’s a very random distraction technique!

I would also consider putting a warning on the local Facebook page if you have one.

Definitely tell your DH not to let them in again and if they come back and get pushy again, tell them to leave or you’ll call the police. And do it if they don’t go.

Your solicitor will have checked the title to ensure the vendor genuinely owned the property.

If they turn up again, call the police.

It's not your husband's fault. It's the couple's rudeness.

Yes I would report this to the police. They may well have had reports from other people too.
