Who pays on second date( but first dinner date)

Prob will get slated for this but just being honest
Second date - but first dinner date- with guy I like.
I offered ( said “ do you want me to...” when the bill arrived) and he said “ yes let’s split it”
He had asked me out for dinner and I feel quite traditional in that it would be nice if the guy who has asked you pays for the first time you go for dinner. Not every date, just in this situation maybe
Prepared to be slated though... thoughts please?

@AryaStarkWolf That's not what I said.......

AryaStarkWolf · 25/09/2019 16:16

What are you saying then?

SlightlyMisplacedSingleDad · 25/09/2019 17:09

I’d gone to a lot of effort with outfit and hair and it didn’t make me feel special that he wanted to split

Don't listen to all those meanies, telling you to pay your own way, sweetheart. You'd done your bit, which is to show up and look pretty. Oh, and smile. Smiling is important.

It isn't right that you should be troubled with thoughts of serious, manly issues such as money. One useful way to avoid such an ugly scene in the future, might be to double date with a chum! So much fun! And, before that awkward moment with the bill arrives, the ladies can adjourn to the drawing room to discuss appropriate topics over a sherry, such as cross-stitch and all the latest goings-on in high society! Mayfair is simply buzzing with the news that Lady Pompington-Smythe will be introducing the beautiful young mistress Arabella at the next debutant's ball - she will be snapped up and married off in simply no time at all!

The men, of course, will enjoy the opportunity to partake of post-dinner cigars and brandy, while debating weighty - but oh so dull! - developments in the worlds of Business and Politics. And you will have the comfort of knowing that the ugly matter of the bill will have been taken care of long before the carriages arrive!

Nail on the head @SlightlyMisplacedSingleDad!

Jennifer2r · 25/09/2019 18:48

That's exactly right @SlightlyMisplacedSingleDad

Meanwhile in 2019 the rest of us are here with our salary and self esteem and autonomy and opinions and whatnot, offering genuinely to pay the bill.

Since this thread is still going, I think it might be time to post in support of the OP. I bet these ladies don't have to split the bill!
