Dating thread 160: fallen in love with someone you shouldn’t have fallen in love with

The first rule about the dating thread is don't talk about it with people you're dating.

  1. Develop a thick skin.
  2. Do not invest emotionally too soon.
  3. It's all BS until it actually happens.
  4. Trust your gut instinct.
  5. People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault.
  6. You are the prize - they should be trying to impress you.
  7. If it's not fun, stop.
  8. Loo update is mandatory.
10. No dating the thread. 11. Do unto others as you would have them do to you.

And a reminder - you don't know them until you know them!

@Sunshineandflipflop I agree, he was making completely sweeping statements about how Southerners don't know how awful the economy is and that the EU has ruined things for anywhere north of Watford! I am suitably intelligent enough to know that there are Brexit supporters and Remain supporters both north and south of Watford! I tried to challenge his thinking but he wouldn't accept it. And I like the idea of Tory biters Grin.

I am very envious of your sun lounger - have a great holiday and take time to look after yourself. Flowers.

LilyRose88 · 26/05/2019 13:05

@SimonJT I did kiss him at the end of our first date - do I need to get checked out Grin.

Ant330 · 26/05/2019 13:16

LilyRose yep you've got some good stories for any future awkward silences 🤣
I'm another Midlands resident and think his regional explanation may be somewhat flawed.
I am feeling a bit better today thank you, the messages of support did help a lot.

Had a night on my own wallowing under the influence of beer. I think being miserable about upsetting MissOz probably dragged up a load of stuff that I've chosen to ignore and bury away over the last year. So probably did me good in the long run.

SimonJT · 26/05/2019 14:44

@LilyRose88 a bit of listerine should do the trick!

ccgirr · 26/05/2019 14:52

@sunshineandflipflops have you gone just you and dc? I’m wondering if I’m brave enough

StealthNinjaMum · 26/05/2019 14:52

Thanks @ant330 I decided to have a day doing housework away from whatsapp and match and feel so much better. I'm normally a rational person so was getting quite anxious. I might see if I can go tomorrow without checking too.

Sunshineandflipflops · 26/05/2019 15:26

@ccgirr My brother is also single and has a son my son's age so we have come together and have other family out here too. Not sure I'm brave enough to do it alone either!

Peanuthedz · 26/05/2019 15:41

I always go away on my own with DCs. Camping or beach holidays. Not tried a city break yet though. That would be quite hard work.

Bluezoo123 · 26/05/2019 17:27

And thanks to the thread for keeping my shit together when I'm feeling like crap x

ccgirr · 26/05/2019 17:35

What’s happened coco?

SimonJT · 26/05/2019 17:37

@CassettesAreCool If I knew you were jealous before I could have saved you the cake I had to dodge after several kids spat all over it blowing the candles out, eurgh. We’ve had tears today as he doesn’t have a party on sunday as well! Sorry mate, only the Queen gets two birthdays.

Had a bit of an odd one last night, MrNoName turned up not long after 11:30 and said (well, partially slurred) “I got the last train so I could see you” then snogged me and pretty much ran back to his taxi.

Notcoolmum · 26/05/2019 17:42

Hope you are ok coco 👍🍷

CassettesAreCool · 26/05/2019 17:49

coco I hope you’re ok. Have you tried going NC with him? Is that possible?

SimonJT it’s ok, keep the cake! 🤢 not jealous. What was that all about with your iron??

So many times the app has lost my post ... maybe it will make me mercifully brief !

@Ant330 this is the most distressing part of OLD for me. I didn't write about it at the time but my start of April dates fizzled out into an aunts kiss and I realised there wasn't much point in being anything other than friends as we got along well. I felt like I would throw up when I had to call an end to it in the potential relationship sense. I decided then that I should have a really high threshold before I date someone, and even more so if more than once. That way, most of the rejection risk falls on me.

Speaking of which, I have a date, I can't wait. Messaging has been great fun, in fact to echo DC I would say best.messaging.ever.

@Peanuthedz ouch on that nose. I nearly asked how do you smell ? but that could me misconstrued Glad MrUnsuitable is making you happy

@StealthNinjaMum It's a good time to take stock and think about the causes of anxiety. I do think it's relatively early on for you post separation so that inevitably feeds into it. I was second guessing and doubting myself loads when I first started and as I said in a previous thread I was even settling for dates that were just so-so from the beginning. I remember having a phone convo with a rather merry woman thinking 'holy crap! wtf ?' but then agreeing a date thinking nothing to lose here. Which was plainly wrong, To cover @CassandraGemini point about feeling overinvested, I think that's a good thing to look out for when going into a date. It means you see something there, something to lose yes, but something to win too.

How was Ikea @shitwithsugaron ?

HairyArsedMan · 26/05/2019 18:44

Cross post with @CassandraGemini Brilliant ! And as a MrScience myself I feel both hope and utterly vindicated on the investment thing. Smile

Peanuthedz · 26/05/2019 18:45

@HairyArsedMan oh the old ones are the best.. 🙄🤣

Wooooohoooo shitwith who said it first?

Just catching up on the thread. Sorry some are feeling blue Flowers

ant you did the right thing. Hope you’re feeling better.

Just marking my place 😁

Ant330 · 26/05/2019 19:28

shitwith the L word, so pleased for you!!!

marlboro I'm fine, I'm numbing it with alcohol. Been out for a couple of hours with some friends, and just come home to eat something before going out again.
I was supposed to be spending this evening and tomorrow with MissOz, so I've decided to spend it getting hammered instead to take my mind off it!
I've had a couple of weak moments wondering if I've done the right thing, I'm missing the regular WA messaging. But I know that's nothing to do with her, it's just accepting I'm on my own again.
I shall try to resist my usual habit of posting something insightful and full of wisdomstupid later 🤣

Ant330 · 26/05/2019 19:30

Insightful and full of wisdom was supposed to be crossed out, this does not bode well for later 🤣
Have a good evening all!
